THE community helped decide the topics of discussion between six of the 10 Indi candidates at a ‘Meet the Candidates’ forum in Euroa on Wednesday night.

Following community polling, topics included integrity and corruption, climate change, education and rural economic development.

Candidates in attendance were incumbent Helen Haines (Independent), Nadia David (Labor), Julian Fidge (Liberal Democrats), Liz Fisher (Nationals), Ross Lyman (Liberal), and Benjamin Gilbert (Greens).

as a panel discussion with each candidate having equal time to respond to the same pre-vetted questions, typically being two minutes per candidate.

Each candidate was also able to spend a few minutes to introduce themselves, explain their motivations for running in the election and their vision for Indi.

The questions and topics of discussion were

chosen by hosts the Euroa Community Action Group after polling the community about what they thought was most significant for Euroa and the wider Indi electorate.

When discussing integrity and corruption, each candidate was asked about their campaign funding and the methods they would use to uphold integrity in federal politics.

The questioning for how to improve and develop the rural economy resulted in each participant being asked about their plans to

address staff shortages, increase tourism and embrace a digital economy for the region.

Discussion on climate change had the audience energised as candidates spoke on their plans to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining economic growth.

Responses were varied depending on the candidate with ideas such as hydrogen gas, solar panels and nuclear energy all being proposed as a solution.

most candidates was the recognition of the Uluru Statement from the Heart which calls for establishing a First Nations voice in parliament that is enshrined in the Constitution.

The event closed with each candidate responding to three questions from audience members.

These questions raised concerns about childcare in the region, schooling and the contentious subject of the ARTC and the underpass/overpass discussions.

Indi candidates debate best policy to tackle climate change

By GUS RIDDER THE panel discussion with the federal candidates for Indi involved each candidate detailing their strategies for tackling climate change.

The question posed to the candidates regarding climate change was: “What innovative plans and policies will you implement across Indi to keep us in line with 1.5 degrees, maintaining economic growth and supporting other regions as well to reduce their emissions?”

Liz Fisher of the Nationals spoke about the capacity to advance the technology in the region.

“There was a time where PV solar panels were novel,” she said.

“Obviously technology has the answer.

“The Federal Government is still investing and has grant programs to encourage more innovation in technology.”

Liberal candidate Ross Lyman agreed that technology was the best way to tackle climate change.

“We are investing in hydrogen, we have a $40 million investment in Wodonga that aims to provide 10 per cent of their gas needs,” he said.

“Base load power is another area that we are investing in.

The candidate from the Greens, Benjamin Gilbert disagreed with the Liberal plan to tackle climate change.

“I wish it was true that the hydrogen gas project in Wodonga was anything other than a prop for the existing gas infrastructure that will be a stranded asset in the near future,” he said.

“Electrify everything on our grid, get rid of coal and gas as soon as possible.

“Base load power is a crock.”

country had to fight climate change.

“We know that we have the world’s best resources when it comes to solar and wind,” she said.

“What we need to make sure of is that we truly benefit from this prosperity.

“Our nation is a place where we can be a world leader in renewable energy generation.”

Nadia David finished by discussing Labor’s plans and its similarities to the Greens.

“It’s the plan that works,” she said.

“We know that we need to electrify the nation.

“Labor has proposed a $20 billion fund to rewire the nation and what we want to do is ensure that all of the regional solar, wind and hydro generation is going to be in the regions.”

Liberal Democrat Julian Fidge introduced a more controversial opinion on how to handle the climate situation.

“We would like to lift the prohibition on nuclear energy,” he said.

“The reason we’d like to use nuclear energy is because it’s the cheapest, the safest and easiest to implement.

“It’s only fear mongering that stops them from being used in Australia.

“Solar will not work, there is no sun at night.”

PHOTO: Dale Mann CANDIDATES for the federal electorate of Indi discussed the most pressing matters of the region at a Meet the Candidates forum in Euroa on Wednesday night, one of which was integrity and corruption in politics.

Six of the 10 candidates were part of the panel discussion including incumbent Helen Haines (Independent), Nadia David (Labor), Julian Fidge (Liberal Democrats), Liz Fisher (Nationals), Ross Lyman (Liberal) and Benjamin Gilbert (Greens).

Each candidate was given two minutes to answer a question on the matter that was selected by the local community.

The question posed to the candidates asked: Where did you receive your election funding from and what methods will you implement to ensure that integrity and accountability is upheld in federal politics?

Greens candidate Benjamin Gilbert was the first to answer the question, discussing the Greens’ history of calling for integrity within politics.

“I recently spent more money on my partner’s bicycle than my entire campaign budget,” he said.

“The greens do not accept any dirty money.

“We do not receive funding from the coal industry or the tobacco industry.

“In 2010 the Greens introduced legislation into the senate for a federal integrity commission.

Helen Haines followed Mr Gilbert and detailed the work she has already done against corruption while in government.

“In every state and territory across Australia we have an anti-corruption or an

integrity commission,” she said.

“I introduced legislation into parliament to establish a robust federal integrity commission that was fit for purpose.

“When it comes to political donations, I introduced private members legislation into the house about this because I fundamentally think that we need better transparency.

“I live by that myself, every donation over $1000 I declare on my website every quarter and every over the AEC limit I declare on my website within five days.”

Nadia David was the next speaker on the matter, providing information on the plans Labor has already made if elected.

“Labor is the only party going into this election with an iron clad guarantee that there will be anti-corruption commission by Christmas,” she said.

“It will be fully independent of government and fully funded.

“Most of my political donations have come from unions.

“None are over the threshold to declare them but I’m on a tight budget.

“The first thing I think we need to do is get rid of political donations altogether and establish a fund so every single candidate gets the same amount of money to campaign with.”

Julian Fidge of the Liberal Democrats spoke about how his party receives funding.

“I don’t receive any campaign funding I just pay for it myself,” he said.

“The Liberal Democrats receive funding from membership and I don’t think that they have any significant big party donors.

“In terms of corruption, we support the commissions but we are very strong on personal freedoms and would not support any kangaroo court closed hearing type things.”

Liz Fisher of the Nationals explained how her personal experiences shaped the way she views integrity.

“Regarding integrity, it’s an interesting thing, one thing I do know is that I am extraordinarily honest,” she said.

“We do have a lot of systems and processes in place and Australia is one of the least corrupt places in the world.

“It’s not going to stop illegal behaviour and with public hearings I don’t want a witch hunt.

“Regarding donations to my campaign, I’ve made phone calls and some people have very kindly made donations.

“All donations that have been made are fully compliant with all laws.”

Liberal candidate Ross Lyman reflected on his military service while answering the question.

“We were told to act with integrity maybe more so than most professions in Australia,” he said.

“We have a judicial system that is able to deal with these matters.

“At the moment you’re innocent until proven guilty and I wouldn’t want to see that reversed.

“We started the campaign back in January and have had dozens of donors, grassroots people in the community and businesses and holding fundraisers.”

Political hopefuls suggest plans to fix staffing crisis

AS part of the Meet the Candidates forum in Euroa on Wednesday night, candidates were asked about their plans to improve staff shortages and increase economic development in the region.

A question was asked to the candidates: “What policies and approaches are you going to implement to support businesses in the region to address staff shortages as well as embracing the digital economy and the growing tourism opportunities in the region?”

Nadia David of Labor answered the question first by discussing the employment issues in the region.

“The issues with employment are quite different in this region than they are in others,” she said.

“As a member of the Labor Party my first answer is going to be pay people more.

“The whole community benefits from good wages.”

Julian Fidge spoke about the policies of the Liberal Democrats that he says will benefit Indi.

“We propose less taxation and would increase the tax-free threshold to $40000,” he said.

“This will encourage people to enter the workforce.

“We would like to have a flat tax rate so we don’t punish people who work long hours or overtime.”

Nationals’ candidate Liz Fisher discussed the capacity for the region to improve its tourism numbers.

“A huge issue is finding workers and finding somewhere for them to live,” she said.

“There is an underinvestment in quality tourism accommodation.

“We need to look at funding opportunities for tourism infrastructure and tourism product to reduce the pressure on housing.”

Ross Lyman spoke on roadblocks that were preventing staff returning to work.

“Let’s stop the mandates and

Čëîč ðòôð ìëóñ get people back to work that are otherwise are kept out of jobs,” he said.

“We need to bring international workers back in.

“There are opportunities for Euroa to be a satellite hub for Melbourne if we get the manufacturing and infrastructure right.”

Benjamin Gilbert explained that the region had the right idea but had been overlooked by government.

“The strategic plan from the council is extremely progressive, it just needs to be supported,” he said.

“You’ve got the answers, you just need the support to achieve it.

“Unfortunately, you’ve been hard done by from your representatives for the last 20 years.”

Current Member for Indi, Helen Haines spoke about shortages across Indi.

“There is a workers shortage right across Indi,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for drivers for your trucks, hospitality workers, health workers or tradies.

“We need to unlock housing so that workers wishing to live here are able to do so.”

Seeking feedback on our Draft Budget Our 2022/23 Draft Budget includes funding for 12 projects that were pitched by the community through Council’s innovative Pitch my Project initiative. We have worked to minimise rate increases and have prepared the Budget based on a 1.75 per cent increase in the average rate per property, which is in line with the State Government’s ‘Fair Go Rates’ legislation.

Waste collection and disposal charges will rise by three per cent, with costs impacted by increases in both the State Government landfill levy of 19 per cent and increases in fuel prices which are a major input into Council’s waste collection contracts.

We manage assets on behalf of the community with a value of more than $283 million. This includes 2204km of roads (735km sealed and 1469km unsealed), 125 road bridges, eight foot bridges, 387 buildings and structures, 37km of footpaths, 11 parks and reserves, four aquatic centres, 26 playgrounds and 42 hard courts and bowling greens.

Over the next 10 years we expect to budget total of $71.40 million for renewing, improving, and growing our assets. We are also projected to allocate about $93.20 million over the same period to operate and maintain our assets. Combined, on average 42 per cent of our total annual expenditure is asset related.

This investment is made so that our assets remain fit-for-purpose, are safe, and support the delivery of services to our community.

FIRST NATIONS DISCUSSION: Candidates for Indi shared their thoughts on the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Uluru Statement from the Heart positions outlined

By GUS RIDDER INDI’S candidates for the upcoming federal election spoke about their views on the Uluru Statement from the Heart during the panel discussion held on Wednesday evening at the Euroa Golf Club.

The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation to the Australian people from First Nations Australians.

It asks Australians to walk together to build a better future by establishing a First Nations Voice to Parliament that is enshrined in the Constitution, and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission for the purpose of treaty making and truthtelling.

Candidates were questioned about where they stood on implementing a First Nations voice to parliament and actioning First Nations peoples’ recommendations in the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Liberal candidate Ross Lyman discussed his personal experience with indigenous communities and the need for a shared voice.

“I had the privilege of working in the northern territory doing pro-bono work with Ernst and Young on various social issues,” he said.

“Where I stand is that we

absolutely need to see First Nations people having the justice and self-determination they seek.

“For me, I’ve seen it really well when we all understand each other’s languages.”

Benjamin Gilbert explained the efforts being made by the Greens together with First Nations people.

“The Greens propose a treaty with First Nations people immediately,” he said.

“It’s curious to me that in 2022 this is still a subject.

“The pain that this has caused and the politicisation of this question has undermined modern Australia’s sense of itself.

“We’re lagging in recognition of our indigenous peoples.”

Federal member for Indi, Helen Haines, stated that she is in full support of the Statement.

“I stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” she said.

“I’d like to do whatever I can to assist government in achieving the Uluru Statement from the Heart and having a voice in Parliament.

“Australia wants this and Australia needs this.”

Labor candidate Nadia David spoke about how important the issue was to her.

“One of the proudest days I’ve had as a member of the

Labor Party was when Anthony Albanese said we will be implanting the Uluru Statement from the Heart and a voice to parliament within the first term,” she said.

“I cannot describe the hurt that colonialism has done in this country and how little has been done to address it.

“The Labor party is very committed to this.”

Julian Fidge of the Liberal Democrats agreed with what the other candidates had to say about the matter.

“I think it is quite embarrassing really that we haven’t done this already,” he said.

“The only honourable way forward is to acknowledge the first peoples and give them a voice in parliament.”

Nationals’ candidate Liz Fisher spoke about how important multiculturalism is to Australian culture.

“I love how multicultural we are and that we have our First Nations people, I love that we have all the other cultures in Australia,” she said.

“I want to see constitutional change because that’s what it involves to recognise the First Nations.

“I’d want to see that debate be respectful, honourable and reasonable.”

Candidates in agreement over next steps for ARTC

By GUS RIDDER THERE was a consensus among all participants at the Meet the Candidates Forum that their parties would advocate for the local community in its discussions with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

The ARTC has been a topic of regular discussion within Euroa, with the community rallying against initial plans for an overpass.

Following a survey of the community conducted by the ARTC, the significantly preferred option for Euroa’s Inland Rail precinct was an underpass instead of the alternative overpass option to replace the Anderson Street Bridge.

A decision has yet to be made by the ARTC and it was brought up by an attendee at the panel discussion on Wednesday night.

The question asked to the candidates was “if elected, what will you and your party do to ensure the community’s views on a rail solution are adhered to and honoured by the ARTC?” Nadia David, Labor’s candidate for Indi, highlighted the inefficiencies shown by the ARTC. “The ARTC is out of control and needs to be reined in,” she said.

“This issue is going on in Benalla, Glenrowan and towns all up and down the rail line.

“We need to make sure we are listening to communities, the ARTC is putting forward some bizarre proposals about spending billions of dollars on monstrous

Julian Fidge from the Liberal Democrats agreed that the community needed to be properly consulted.

“Things like this need to be decided at the local level,” he said.

“If you wish to have an overpass or underpass that should be a decision made locally provided it is possible to engineer the solution.

“The ARTC is terrible, I can’t

believe it’s taken so long to fix up the railway lines.”

The Nationals’ view would also be to have significant community involvement according to their candidate Liz Fisher.

“We need to get a solution that the community wants,” she said.

“I understand the complexity of the double stacked tracks, it’s a fantastic project but I sincerely hope the decision made is for the majority and with consultation.”

Ross Lyman simplified the is-

sue, saying that he and the Liberal Party would listen to the community opinion on the matter.

“In simple terms, I’d support what the community wants,” he said.

“The ARTC has messed this up.

“There wasn’t consultation wide enough or deep enough early on, not just here but Benalla, Glenrowan and Wangaratta too.”

Greens candidate Benjamin Gilbert said that from a project like this must serve the people

its intended for.

“If our outcomes are not serving the people, it’s a failure of design,” he said.

“Change will only come with united voices and hopefully there is a place for better train infrastructure in Australia.

“If done correctly, it will benefit this community.”

Current member for Indi, Helen Haines discussed what she had already done to support the region on the matter.

“We’ve pushed back against the ARTC since they proposed this monolithic, hideous bridge,” she said.

“We’ve won the battle in Benalla and I’m determined that we should win this battle in Euroa as well.

“The people of Euroa have come forward with great solutions.”

There is no word yet when the final decision will be made by the ARTC.

Time for feds to pick up the baton THINGS can change.

We now have a local council that has acknowledged the climate emergency and a State Government that has a pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45-50 per cent by 2030.

What we need now is a Federal Government to pick up the baton and get moving.

Both our farmers and rural communities are at the front line of droughts, fires and other extreme weather events.

The medical impacts of climate change

are upon us with the appearance of the tropical disease Japanese Encephalitis now on our doorstep.

Australian farmers can be carbon neutral with government support.

Renewables offer rural communities, jobs and enormous economic opportunities.

We just need a government to support this transition.

The major political parties have let us down.

They are too close to the fossil fuel industry.

This an election where we the electorate can make a difference.

I think Helen Haines will do the best job for Indi.

Haines discusses future of farming

By GUS RIDDER FEDERAL Member for Indi, Helen Haines, spoke about her plans to secure the future of farming and reduce emissions.

Speaking from a sheep farm in Euroa owned by young farmer Ed Mercer, Dr Haines announced plans to establish a network of 200 agricultural extension officers that would be located in regional hubs across Australia.

These officers would work with individual farms and assist in the implementation of emissions reduction strategies.

According to Dr Haines, this would allow farmers to benefit from on-the-ground technical support to help them access carbon markets, adopt new lowemissions technologies and retain access to export markets.

Dr Haines identified the necessity to create a plan and provide guidance for farmers making this transition.

“Agriculture is part of our identity in the Strathbogie shire,” she said.

“Things in agriculture continue to change due to it being a science based industry.

“What we have now is a commitment from the Australian government to reach zero net emissions by 2050 and agriculture is a key component in achieving that goal.

“What we don’t have is a federal government plan for agriculture in how to achieve that goal.”

“Many farmers remember what it was like when we had the old ag extension officers,” she said.

“They were critical back in the day to help roll out new practices like stubble retention, mixed cropping, and pest management.

“Australian farmers want to take advantage of a new wave of technological change, transforming their business and reducing their emissions.

“My plan is about giving farmers the tools they need to succeed, to grow their business and reduce emissions at the same time.”

The proposals made by Dr Haines were supported by sheep farmer and Euroa resident Ed Mercer.

“It would be huge for the farms,” he said.

“We’re faced with challenges all the time.

“Exports are suffering so if we can do anything to help get our products overseas then we need to do everything we can.

“If people can learn more about how to improve and start acting on it, that would be great.”

Carbon credits were one area of particular interest to the farmer.

“There’s not always a lot of money in farming and if you’re on a smaller scale people don’t have the money to spend on

capital infrastructure to improve your pastures and carbon output,” he said.

“The credits can then help people to spend this money to improve and therefore improve our economy.”

Dr Haines says her proposals are also appreciated by the National Farmers Federation (NFF) as they mirror key elements of their election platform.

“The NFF’s election platform calls for the next government to establish a long-term extension program to support farmers and landholders to take advantage of new research and technology, mitigation practices and to participate in new markets,” she said.

“My proposal is exactly what the NFF has called for.”

Violet Town policeman bids farewell after 45 years’ service

By GUS RIDDER LEADING Senior Constable Pat Storer, from the Violet Town Police Station has retired after 14 years of service in the area.

An extremely popular figure in the community, Pat was given a remarkable send off by Violet Town residents.

Two of the local CFA firetrucks parked outside the police station and created a guard of honour as they sprayed a giant arc of water across Cowslip Street.

This was arranged as a surprise for Pat by Violet Town resident Andrew Walter who spoke glowingly about the retiring policeman.

“He’s just been an important

part of our town,” he said.

“Not only his police work but the way he’s involved himself with our community, volunteering and helping out wherever he can.

“He was always the first call whenever there was any trouble or if something needed to be done.

“Despite catching me speeding a few times, we all still appreciated him.

“He wasn’t afraid to be hard on the locals but he always acted in the best interests of the town.”

Pat’s popularity was confirmed by the turnout to this surprise retirement party, arranged at short notice after the modest policeman had tried to

hide that it was his last day on the job.

Beyond the array of locals that showed up to show their appreciation, many other senior figures from the region were in attendance.

Member for Euroa Steph Ryan changed her schedule to be able to pay her respects and thank Pat for his service to the community.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Laura Binks also attended, along with senior members of the region’s CFA and Police Forces.

Pat looked back fondly at his time in the police force and as a part of the Violet Town community.

“I’ve been in the police force

for just on 45 years, mostly working in the Goulburn Valley in the north of Victoria,” he said.

“The best part of my career has been here in Violet Town at the one-member station for the last 14 years.

“It’s been extremely rewarding and I’ve really enjoyed it but I’m now transitioning into retirement.”

When asked about his retirement plans, Pat said he was looking forward to some time to travel across Australia with his wife.

“Myself and my wife have bought a new caravan so we plan on heading north for a while and enjoying the warm weather,” he said.

It was a point of difference to have a female army veteran talk about women in the services.

Creating excitement were the games of two up being played at The Ellen, ably led by our new RSL president James who managed to get his picture not just in one newspaper but two - as well as on Facebook!

Charity CEO stops in Euroa during epic bike ride

By GUS RIDDER CARITAS Australia CEO Kirsty Robertson stopped by St John’s Primary School in Euroa while taking a pit-stop from the Cycle to End Poverty.

The Cycle to End Poverty has been an epic 900km bicycle ride from Sydney to Melbourne for charity.

Ms Robertson and Caritas have aimed to raise $50,000 from the ride, with the goal being to alleviate poverty in communities around the world.

She has been joined on the ride by Richard Landels, Caritas Australia’s advancement director, stopping at numerous towns along the way, meeting with local schools and parishes.

“At almost evert town along the way we’ve stopped to visit parishes, schools,

some of the supporters of Caritas Australia, we’ve even had dinner at people’s homes which has been lovely,” Ms Robertson said.

When discussing the motivation behind the bike ride, Ms Robertson reflected on the story of a man named Biru who had been a part of a program with Caritas India.

“We were inspired by many of the stories of resilience in our programs, but there was one that really touched me,” she said.

“It was about a man called Biru, who lives with disability in a remote part of India, and how he started a successful bicycle and motorbike repair business, despite not only the challenges of living with his disability, but also the discrimination he experiences.

“We read that story as watching the Tour de France

and the combination of the two made us think why don’t we do something challenging to be in solidarity with people around the world like Biru?”

With the fundraising goal nearly achieved, Ms Robertson discussed what the donations would be used for.

“The money raised will be going into a big campaign we call Project Compassion,” she said.

“It starts ever year and gives money to some of the poorest and most marginalised people in the world, people with disabilities and people in extreme poverty.

“It goes towards projects that will help them.”

Ms Robertson and Mr Landels arrived in Melbourne on Sunday after nine days of cycling.

They have raised $49,375 so far.

State Government offers $250 energy bill bonus ALL Victorian households will receive a $250 payment if they seek out a better energy deal on Victoria’s Energy Compare website.

As part of the Victorian budget 2022/23, the State Government will invest $250 million in a new ‘Power Saving Bonus’.

From July 1, the new $250 payment will be open to all Victorian households who use the Victorian Energy Compare website to compare their energy deal and seek out a better price.

“This is a great opportunity for Victorians to save money,

ease the cost of living, and cut their energy bills,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.

“Big power companies rely on people not having the time, information or knowledge to save money. But we know better deals are out there - and we’re helping Victorian families find them.”

The premier said the Victorian Energy Compare website is the only free and independent online energy price comparison service available to Victorian energy consumers.

According to the premier, user data shows that seven out of every 10 users can save mon-

ey by switching energy offers, with typical annual savings of $330 on energy bills in the first year of switching alone.

The quickest way to submit an application for the $250 bonus will be through the website, but Victorians without access to a computer or the internet can call the Victorian Energy Compare helpline or receive support from a community outreach partners.

The $250 ‘Power Saving Bonus’, runs until June 30, 2023, and follows a similar $50 payment in the 2018/19 state budget.

The biggest challenge for young people in Indi is finding somewhere to live. The jobs are there, but young people can’t afford to live here and take up those jobs. Prices are up 33% in Wangaratta, 40% in Euroa, 54% in Bright and 55% in Mansfield.

It’s previously unheard of. I’m fighting for infrastructure investment to unlock new housing supply so young people can afford to live here.

First, I’m fighting to stop the Federal Government shifting the cost of NBN onto local councils. The government says the NBN build is done, which is clearly not true, but is now asking councils (and therefore ratepayers) to pay for further upgrades. The Commonwealth is supposed to pay for the NBN, not regional ratepayers. Second, my Housing Infrastructure Fund proposal would fund council projects like upgrading Wangaratta’s sewer system to unlock new housing. Third, I’ve worked hand-in-glove with councils to secure funding for nine new mobile phone towers, and I will keep working to deliver more towers for Indi.

Derryn Hinch’s Justice party member for Northern Victoria, Tania Maxwell, has raised in State Parliament the issue in Wangaratta around its sewer capacity, which will stop residential development. Wangaratta is one of the highest growth areas in the state. The project needs around $200m in funding to support local housing.

Young people have been heavily impacted by COVID and supporting their mental health is critical to ensuring positive pathways for the future. Our party has advocated heavily at a state level for funding for Education First Youth Foyers in Wodonga and Wangaratta, to provide secure accommodation and integrated learning for people aged 16 to 24. Housing affordability, incentivising work in health and aged care sectors which have workplace shortages, and improving connectivity are all critical issues.

The UAP is committed to improving the economic conditions in rural Australia. We have a 20% tax concession for those living more than 200km from a capital city.

We want to process the minerals and ores mined here and not send them overseas as raw resources. We want to see as much Australian industry that went offshore returned. These policies will invigorate rural economies and in doing so will provide massive opportunities for youth employment and stable lives.

All government seek to shift costs onto others. The UAP would assist councils where possible by getting councils to focus on their core responsibilities and with the economic boom created by the UAP policies then councils will have much more rate revenue available. Councils are a great resource for people but so much more is provided by voluntary organisations and other bodies that have local ties and knowledge. I believe that the UAP or whoever is in government should support and encourage these organisations in their desire to improve the lot of the local people.

The rapid transition to 100% renewables will provide low cost, green energy to rebuild our manufacturing industry, creating jobs and innovation. Establishing the Manufacturing Australia Fund will help local manufacturers expand into new sectors. The Greens will reverse cuts to university funding, and boost it by 10%, enabling quality teaching, learning and research.

These policies will benefit Indi, helping to diminish the need for people to leave the area.

The Australian Local Government Association says waste generation in Australia is increasing, and we have little capacity for processing much of the mixed plastic waste collected by local governments. The Greens will invest in promoting localised resource capture, repair and re-manufacture, including supporting local councils with grants and other assistance to transition to a job-creating, circular economy, and to build industrial compostable facilities to reduce waste. As the elected representative for Indi, I would liaise regularly with councils and community groups throughout the electorate to facilitate pathways for communication with Canberra, to support grant-seekers and provide direct advocacy.

Historically young people left rural areas for education and employment. Nowadays, jobs are available in rural areas and the challenge is ensuring availability of appropriate training.

The Liberal and Nationals Government have a strong record of supporting Australian apprentices and trainees. The government has committed to extending the ‘Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement Program’. This program provides employers with a 50 per cent wage subsidy for taking on a new apprentice or trainee.

I will meet with local councils regularly and discuss their priorities as I have done during the election campaign.

I will lobby my National Party colleagues to continue to support local road projects to get outcomes such as the recently announced $9 million commitment to road upgrades in the Mansfield Shire, and the $518,000 for the Tarrawingee mobile tower.

I will lobby for continuation and increased funding of community infrastructure projects for road, rail, telecommunications, community amenities, health, and education.

The Liberal National Government has completely abandoned young people, not just in the regions, but across Australia. Labor is focused on repairing and properly funding higher education – including providing 450,000 free TAFE spaces and 25,000 new university spaces – and bringing fees under control. We need to pay apprentices a living wage so they can finish their apprenticeships, and we must invest in mental health support for young people.

This is not the message I’m getting from the local councils I’ve met with – and I’m meeting them all between now and election day. The issue isn’t cost-shifting, it’s a lack of planning and future-proofing, combined with limited collaboration between the three government levels. Each level of government has responsibility for different things and need to work together to establish strong relationships. I would establish multi-government working groups with representatives from each, I would invest in town planners and I would ensure we develop clear development master plans so we know what we’re doing before we do it.

The Liberal Democrats will not fund universities directly.

Instead, we will fund students with a voucher system. This will encourage universities to provide education where the students are living. We will create employment by removing company tax on profits a company reinvests in Australia, increasing employment opportunities in Indi. We will raise the tax-free threshold and reduce income tax to 20% so a good income can be earned locally.

The Liberal Democrats have sensible, reasonable, workable policies that will support the Indi community and councils. We will encourage jobs and growth in Indi by reducing company tax to 20%, increase personal income by cutting income tax to 20%, and we will provide cheap, safe, low-carbon nuclear power, like many other developed countries. Our policies work. I brought a $17 million rehabilitation centre into Indi, by developing a good policy for rural rehabilitation. Dr Haines, our federal representative, lacks plans and policies so she has only brought in $6.8m. Our election policy details can be found at ldp.org.au.

With young children living in the region, I’m passionate about the opportunities and lifestyle the North East offers. I want my children to grow up and lead a balanced, fulfilling life with access to education, health, jobs, and recreation without having to leave the region. I have a plan to attract manufacturers to our region, that secures local high skill jobs, and drives investment in local education to match the need for skilled workers.

The Morrison Liberal Government has stepped up to support local governments with the creation of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program in 2020. The LRCIP supports local councils to deliver local road and community infrastructure projects, supporting jobs and local economies bounce back from COVID-19. As an economic stimulus measure, the intent is to fund road and community infrastructure projects which would otherwise not be possible. In Indi, over $37 million has been provided to local LGA’s from this new fund, on top of funding already provided by the Commonwealth Government. If elected, will fight to see this fund continue.

Euroa Health welcomes Narni the Labrador as new staff member EUROA Health has begun utilising a Labrador named Narni in its facilities to offer companionship to its residents.

Narni arrived to Euroa Health on March 8 after a two year search for a dog to live in the Residential Aged Care Facility GraniteHill.

Narni was found after representatives from Euroa Health saw an advertisement on Facebook from a family in Macedon.

The gorgeous 10-yearold Labrador arrived with her own crate which she retires to during the day in the Lifestyle area in GraniteHill (mostly during mealtimes) and at night time has her own kennel and yard outside the building.

Narni comes inside the facility as the first staff member arrives for the day.

Residents undertake their exercise session at 10am and Narni loves roaming the hallways to walk with residents to exercises or sneak into their rooms as they wake up for a good morning pat.

From there she attends

the staff huddle at 11am before heading off for a ten-minute walk with two staff members.

The rest of the day Narni can be found under staff desks (even the CEO’s desk), snoring loudly or wandering through and taking part in activities with residents.

Narni is known for being happy to eat anything and everything.

There are plans for Narni to stay with Euroa Health due to the adoration all the residents and staff have felt for her.

The decision to get a dog for the facilities was due to the companionship and unconditional love an animal can provide.

There have been suggestions they may have the ability to boost health and general well-being, especially in the elderly for numerous reasons.

Residents in aged care are often unable to bring their pet into a facility, this allows residents to engage with animals through pet therapy and share the benefits and responsibility of having a dog.

Euroa Health states that Narni (and other animals) can be quite soothing and can help a person with dementia communicate, speak and articulate themselves better when they are feeling comfortable and also encourages a person with dementia to express themselves through nonverbal communication and action.

They have already seen that Narni has helped make a person with dementia re-engage with what is happening around them and people with dementia seem to have positive reactions to pet therapy sessions.

Staff members have also been incredibly pleased to have Narni around after enduring two long years of the COVID-19 pandemic at work.

Climate action feedback sought MAYOR Laura Binks has reaffirmed that the Strathbogie Shire Council is working to reduce the damage climate change can have on the social, economic, and environmental prosperity of the community.

“In 2021 we became the 100th council in Australia to declare a climate emergency and just the third to pass this notice of motion unanimously,” Cr Binks said.

“We believe leadership is needed on this issue.

“The Climate Change science is undeniable, and we must act now to protect the future for the generations to come.”

Since declaring a Climate Emergency, Council has been working with the community to prioritise and set mitigation, adaptation and resilience actions.

Following these discussions, a Draft Climate Change Action Plan is now open for public feedback.

“The development of our draft plan is an excellent example of how we are working with our community to make better decisions and deliver better plans and strategies,” Cr Binks

said.

“We have sought advice from our community to help us understand key focus areas and priorities and all this input is reflected in our draft plan.

“The draft plan will embed climate emergency responses into all council activities and decisions.

“It will accelerate our climate change adaption and mitigation actions and it will direct our efforts to engage and empower our community and businesses to foster cultural shifts so that ongoing climate action becomes the new standard.”

Cr Binks urged the community to visit www.share.strathbogie.vic.gov.au to read the draft plan and provide feedback.

“Here you can also pledge your support for climate action in Strathbogie Shire on our wall of support,” she said.

“During our councillor roundtables we heard our community was keen to show its support for climate action so we’ve created a platform where you can show your support by sharing words, pictures and videos.”

The draft plan has been split into five main areas with corporate and community actions for each target area. The areas are: 1. Protecting our natural environment 2. Reducing our emissions 3. Our climate resilient community 4. Moving sustainably 5. Advocating for change Overall, there are 50 actions, of which implementation is expected to start in 2022/23.

“Across each of these Strategic Focus Areas Council, residents, businesses, farmers and community groups have different roles to play in driving climate action,” Cr Binks said.

“By working together and taking a partnership approach we can build a climate resilient, net zero community.”

Feedback is open for six weeks, from Tuesday, April 26 to 5pm on Tuesday, June 7.

Country Halls tour reaches Violet Town AFTER being cancelled and reorganised numerous times, the Violet Town Kindergarten’s Fanny Lumsden concert will be held at the community hall on Saturday, May 7.

The event will begin from 6.30pm.

The Violet Town Kinder Parents Committee has been integral in arranging the concert, which promises to be a great night of music and community.

The event will be fundraising for the Kindergarten, the Primary school, and the Lions Club in Violet Town.

Fanny Lumsden is an ARIA award winner, as well as an eight-time Golden Guitar recipient at the Country Music Awards.

As part of the Country Halls Tour, Fanny Lumsden will be playing at halls while travelling throughout regional Australia.

The Kindergarten and Childcare parents committee are putting on a bar, Peranbin Primary College will be selling soft drinks and the VT Lions Club are providing food.

Courageous Ana is a young mother who cares for her family

By DIANE GRANT ANA Williams is a mother that is worth remembering on Mother’s Day for her courage, devotion and support for her family.

Ana and Blair Williams have lived in Nagambie for many years.

A few years ago the Gazette shared some of Ana’s story to make people aware that many families suffer tragedies but can rise above it as Ana and Blair Williams have after losing four babies.

But Ana Williams courageously moved on and was able to be blessed with four lovely girls to raise with Blair and it showed she never gave up on trying for a loving family.

Her husband Blair and Ana along with their girls live in Nagambie and Ana runs the local Nagambie Family Day Care.

In 2020 the Williams family

lives changed again, Ana and Blair, became parents for the 8th time and were filled with joy when baby Haylee was born on August 17, 2020.

They were so pleased she arrived safely in this world, and is growing into a fine little girl.

Ana and Blair would like to emphasize how special Haylee was because of her angel siblings, Dylan, Evan, Finley and baby G Williams before her.

On Sunday, April 3, at the Mary MacKillop hall which was gaily decorated with balloons and unicorns, Ana and Blair hosted a Naming ceremony for Haylee Cat Annaleise Williams, a belated first birthday party for Haylee, and a time of remembrance of Dylan as it was his 4th birthday and an early 40th birthday celebration for Ana who was to turn 40 on April 11.

Ana over the past couple of

years has bravely shared her story of heartbreak of losing two children then by miscarriage and how this experience had motivated her to start a fundraiser for a ‘Cuddle cot’ and raise awareness of a Cuddle Cot campaign that she had started fundraising for.

Ana said “I am the one in four who have lost babies to stillbirth and miscarriage.

In Australia six babies are stillborn every day.

This is higher than the road toll but not a lot of people know about it and people think it’s still such a taboo subject when it shouldn’t be.

“I want to let people know, that it’s ok to talk about it,” she said.

“I wanted to create awareness and help other people going through what I and my family have been through.

With the support of friends, family and the local community she was able to raise funds to help supply a hospital in need of a Cuddle Cot and leave a lasting legacy in honour of our boys Dylan and Evan.”

The support group Ana started was something different.

It was a Bereaved Parents Support Group for parents that have lost a child through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss where parents whether it be 40 years ago or recently can come together and know they have support.

Men’s sheds have scope to apply for new funding THE Labor Government is providing funding to establish, expand or improve men’s sheds.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced applications have opened for grants through a $1 million men’s sheds program.

In the 2022-23 grant round, men’s shed groups can again apply for a grant of up to $80,000 for the construction of a new shed or the extension or refurbishment of an existing shed.

“These grants will help men’s sheds grow and welcome new members, providing a place for people across our community to connect and supporting their wellbeing,” she said.

Men’s sheds provide a place for people to get together, work on common projects and contribute to their community.

Minister for disability, ageing and carers Anthony Carbines spoke about the significance of men’s sheds.

“Men’s sheds play such an important role, providing a place to learn new skills and share interests, as well as the opportunity to make friends and contribute to the community,” he said.

“This investment will support upgrades for men’s sheds throughout the state, delivering more opportunities for Victorians to reconnect after a diffi-

cult couple of years.”

There are currently more than 360 communities with men’s sheds throughout Victoria, including Euroa, Violet Town and Nagambie in the Strathbogie Shire.

By DIANE GRANT THE Nagambie Railway Station has benefited from the stage two of the Shepparton Railway Line upgrade that has progressed well.

Site mobilisation works started in Nagambie in November 2021 to support construction of the platform extension at the station to suit longer VLocity trains.

A large building colour bond has been erected on the southern side of the station with platform works to be completed around it soon.

This month, station construction workmen have benefitted from the good weather to bitumen the newly designed carpark west of the station platform and have cemented road kerb and channels and a small roundabout in the centre.

Painted lines designate the positions vehicles and buses can utilise when visiting the station.

The Shepparton line upgrade is part of the $4 billion Regional Rail Revival Program.

The line passes through Nagambie and regular travellers have been using bus services while the line and railway crossing works have been carried out in the

Stage two of the line upgrade is delivering the infrastructure required to enable the modern VLocity trains to travel on the line for the first time.

Site investigations have also taken place along the line to design the stage

three track and signalling upgrades, which will enable nine weekday return services to Shepparton and deliver faster journeys.

Stage two is targeted to be completed by late 2022 and stage three in late 2023.

Campaign focus on housing affordability AN impending interest rate rise and a new opposition shared equity plan to get thousands of people into homes has intensified the spotlight on property affordability.

Federal Labor says the cost of buying a home will be slashed by up to 40 per cent for about 10,000 low to middle income earners a year if it wins government.

Responding to the policy on Sunday, Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said the recently expanded Home Guarantee Scheme was preferable to governments owning part of people’s homes.

“Our policy is about en-

suring that Australians get to own their own home, Labor’s policy is about the government owning parts of your home with you,” Mr Birmingham told ABC’s Insiders on Sunday.

Labor’s Help to Buy scheme will provide an equity contribution of up to 40 per cent of the purchase price of a new home, and up to 30 per cent for an existing dwelling, with buyers needing a minimum deposit of two per cent.

Ahead of the most recent federal budget, the government announced up to 50,000 places would be available each year under its scheme

allowing first home buyers to enter the market with a much smaller deposit.

“It’s helping now really lift the rates of first time ownership ... and importantly, you get to own your own home, you don’t have Mr Albanese at the kitchen table,” Mr Birmingham said.

About 160,000 new home owners entered the Australian market last year, up from a five year average of around 100,000, he said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday admitted the dream of home ownership was not something everyone can achieve.

“It’s really tough, but what I’m so encouraged by is that Australians are still doing it, and the programs we’ve put in place are helping them achieve that,” he told reporters in Sydney.

“The most important thing if you want to own your own home is making sure you get that job and you have that financial security.”

Under Labor’s plan, Australians will be able to buy back an additional stake in the home, owned by the federal government, in five per cent increments or pay the government back when they sell.

The scheme is not exclusive to first home buyers but participants must be Australian citizens and live in the home for two years.

It’s expected to cost taxpayers around $329 million over four years, but the Greens say the investment “won’t even touch the sides”.

Leader Adam Bandt said housing affordability is one area the party would push an Albanese Government should Labor win the election.

Addressing the media and a small crowd from the United Workers Union ahead of the march, Mr Albanese attacked stagnant wages over the past decade under the coalition government.

“Our plan for more secure work today will be a theme of May Day and Labour Day, a day where we celebrate the fact that working people have fought to gain wages and conditions over a long, long period of time,” he said.

“The simple principle that we celebrate today is a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.”

But Mr Albanese and his industrial relations spokesman Tony Burke were unable to answer questions about what the party would accept as a benchmark for real wages growth.

“Whenever things are going up except pay, there is a simple benchmark,” Mr Burke said.

“I have made it pretty clear, people cannot continue to go backwards in their pay and conditions.”

Morrison says there’s no rush on Russia G20 decision PRIME Minister Scott Morrison says there is no rush to deal with the issue of Russian President Vladimir Putin attending the next G20 leaders’ summit.

Mr Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to attend the G20 summit to be held in Bali in November.

Russia is a member while Mr Zelensky would attend as an invited observer.

G20 host leader and Indonesian President Joko Widodo has spoken with Mr Zelensky and Mr Putin, urging

them to end the war and offering to play a role in peace negotiations.

Indonesia has rejected the Ukrainian leader’s request for arms on constitutional and foreign policy grounds, but instead will send humanitarian aid.

Mr Morrison told reporters in Sydney on Sunday the issue of Mr Putin’s attendance “still has some distance to travel”.

He said Australia would consult with other like-minded countries, but the key was to ensure the Indonesian

summit was successful.

“We don’t know what the situation (in Ukraine) will be in November of this year,” Mr Morrison said.

He said he had been working with the Indonesian president on ensuring the summit held a comprehensive discussion on online safety.

“We want to ensure that Indonesia has a successful G20,” he said.

Eosinophilic oesophagitis causes difficulty swallowing and chest discomfort, affecting an estimated 2000 people nationally.

However Health Minister Greg Hunt says instead of paying up to $5000 a year for EoE medication budesonide, patients will spend $42.50 per script or $6.80 with a concession card after its listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

Gastroenterologist Sanjay Nandurkar from Melbourne’s Eastern Health says treatment is crucial to prevent permanent damage to the oesophagus.

“Due to the complexity of EoE, it can take up to six years from symptom onset to diagnose the disease in adults, and may result in anxiety and/or depression in some patients,” he said.

“If left untreated, 30 to 50 per cent of people living with EoE are at risk of food suddenly becoming stuck in the oesophagus (food impaction), which may require removal in the emergency department.”

A similar PBS listing for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in young children and pre-symptomatic patients will save Australian families more than $2.5 million annually.

Antibody drug sacituzumab govitecan will also save triple negative breast cancer patients about $80,000 per course of treatment.

Mr Hunt says the new listings are among 2900 the government has approved since 2013 and continue its commitment to ensuring Australians can access treatments without huge out of pocket costs.

SPORT - SCOREBOARD EUROA FOOTBALL UNDER 18 A CHILLY Saturday morning once again saw a depleted Euroa Thirds line up on the road, this time to Princess Park to face the highly fancied Shepparton Swans.

With co-captains Kiely Jager and Nicholas McCabe watching on from the sidelines due to soft tissue injures and vice-captain Fletcher Paul making his senior debut, Cameron Walker was appointed as captain for the day.

Heath Downie battled hard in the ruck all day whilst Peter Bateman provided inspiring attack on the football with multiple dashing runs. Nic Hill, yet again was instrumental down back tallying over 10 intercept marks for the game and equally used the ball just as well by foot.

However, it was u16s stalwart Nathan Butler that put the magpies on the score board kicking Euroa’s only two goals.

Other u16 boys Will Creevey, Ryan Hill, Darby Wilson and Talleigh McCabe in addition to Nathan proved just as vital for the magpies and played excellent games of footy, making the most of all opportunities that came their way.

Ultimately, the swans were too strong for the magpies but the boys effort could not be questioned with coach Hill stating “although a bittersweet loss, the effort and persistence of this group today was unquestionable.”

UNDER 16 Under 16’s lose in a close match KICKING the substantial dew off the grass, the Euroa under 16 team took to the field with great gusto - knowing full well their team was well-placed to take it right up to their Shepparton Swans counterparts.

In what was anticipated, the first quarter was indeed a nail-biiter.

Only two points separated the teams as they came in to listen to their coaches at quarter time.

Mitch Walters, Cohen Paul and Ryan Hill were showing everyone what great assets they are to this team and in time to the Euroa FNNC and/or beyond.

Wonderful mid-field work by Will Creevey as a result of Charles Thompson’s domination in the ruck meant Euroa were off to a flyer in the second quarter.

This hard work translated to a lead of a mere three points at the long-break.

Coach Mills implored his team to keep doing the right things for longer periods of time as the second half opened up in much

the same manner as the first - tight and tough.

Some excellent work up forward resulted in goals to Darby Wilson and Blake Hepworth as the Euroa boys were sniffing out another victory.

The last quarter certainly proved to be something to witness as both teams went at one-another in fierce, fair and competitive football.

The Swans were able to boot a few gaols late in the game and rob Euroa a chance of posting a muchneeded away win.

Nonetheless these boys will return to the training track this week, minus Dublin Anderson who suffered an un-timely crack in his collarbone (get well soon Dub) , in the knowledge their next game is in a fortnight.

UNDER 13 EUROA U13’s ventured down the freeway to take on Tabilk at Avenel on a gloomy day, but there was plenty of sunshine in the young magpies’ performance.

Ollie Swain got the ball rolling and was enjoying Addison Godsmark’s domination in the ruck.

The ball spent a lot of time in Euroa’s forward half, allowing the “Breaker Brothers” (Kobe Ross & Angus Burton) repeated attacks on goal.

Highlights for the quarter were Ollie Swain’s tackle, and a Tabilk point that resulted in a skilful passage of play from end to end for Euroa.

The second quarter continued like the first, with Ethan Saxon and Jackson Walker the better players.

Ethan was hitting up teammates at will, while Jackson took a great diving mark and was strong around the contests.

Highlights were Riley Walker’s defensive mark and Kobe Ross’ two goals after a spell on the bench.

Coach Saxon shuffled the team around and the second half became a good even spread of teamwork, highlighted by Addison at CHB, Sam Mills with two clever goals and a check-side goal to Cooper Goodall.

A strong win was enjoyed with numerous goalkickers and better players for the day were Addison Godsmark, Jackson Walker, Ethan Saxon, Kobe Ross and Ollie Swain.

Mixed results for junior netballers UNDER 11 THE Euroa under 11’s girls’ netball team took to the court for the very first time up against Kyabram in what end up being a competitive game.

With seven young girls lead by captain of the day Adelaide Downie and coach Becky Squires.

Euroa started off the day with Chloe Squires in GK, Zara Hill in GD and Leila Thompson in WD working well together in the defensive half, sticking to their players and intercepting balls when they came their way.

In the second quarter coach Becky decided to leave the girls in their same positions, allowing the team to really get a feel for the game.

This helped the girls in the goal area with Tully Watson in WA and Daisy Cameron in C, quickly passing around the goal area resulting in Adelaide Downie in GS scoring our first goal for the year.

The girls quickly followed up with Isla Moore in GA producing our scored goal for the quarter.

Coach Becky encouraged the girls and changed things up by moving them into new positions.

Isla Moore in GD, Leila Thompson in GK, Zara Hill in WD and Tully Watson in C working well as a team sticking to their players and working at intercepting balls as they came to the opposition’s end.

The girls got the ball down to the goal area allowing Adelaide Downie in WA to feed the

ball around the ring to Chloe Squires in GS and Daisy Cameron in GA. We were soon rewarded with our third goal for the year with Daisy Cameron in GA scoring this one for the team.

For our girls this was the first outing as a team and they will take great encouragement heading towards the rest of the season.

These two girls were very consistent in defence and attack and brought their team mates into the game on regular basis.

Captain for this week Mabel lost the toss and after five minutes of play Grace managed to get the first goal for Euroa followed straight away with another goal from Audrey.

Within the first 15 seconds of the second quarter Grace shot her fourth goal.

Fantastic sharing of the all from Audrey in the goal ring allowed Grace to get her second goal for the quarter.

MORE than half a million properties across Australia will effectively become uninsurable this decade due to climate change, a new report has warned.

The Climate Council says the nation is in the grip of an escalating insurance crisis as the cost of cover becomes unattainable for properties most at risk of climate-fuelled disasters.

New modelling suggests that by 2030 - eight years from now - one in every 25 properties nationally could be without cover either because it might be refused or will be financially out of reach.

That's 3.6 per cent of all Australian properties, or 521,000 sites in total.

Queensland is expected to be the most uninsurable state, with 6.5 per cent of its properties exposed to that fate.

Carly Murphy clocks up 200th KDFNL NETBALL LONGWOOD B GRADE B GRADE started the game with several key players out due injuries and Illness.

But the new inclusion of Jo Godfrey and the return of Letitia McCrimmon after a couple years off, as well as our juniors setting up saw our numbers steady.

The ladies took to the court very competitive for the first half a game, only a couple of goals difference in the margin.

By the end of the second quarter fatigue had set in.

Great goaling from Letitia McCrimmon and Emily Jenkinson saw our highest scoring quarter in the third, the ladies fought hard all the way to end and never put their heads down.

Unfortunately Lancaster ran away from us and we went down by 16.

Coaches went to Serena Bleckwehl who had an amazing game in defence little changes suggested at quarter time saw her get two hands to the ball and grab some great rebounds.

BOC went to another new player Kaitlyn Norris.

Kaitlyn’s speed and jumping ability saw her grab many rebounds and intercepts throughout the game.

WINNING SEASON: Longwood C Grade netballers revelled in their great win against Lancaster.

C GRADE THE C Grade Girls had the fight in their bellies, the ladies went out strong in the first quarter with a good lead, with Michelle Groom, Lisa Morey and Elizabeth Howe getting lots of intercepts in defence and good leads and passes from the attacking duo of Sarah Delahey and Kate Stuchbery and some accurate shooting from Gail Galvin and Carly Murphy.

The girls were getting tired by half time so some fresh legs of Racheal Cum-

mins, Lily Cooper and Cassie Rawlings giving the girls a rest.

Seeing Lancaster fight back to a two goal difference at the end of third quarter, we went back and re grouped and came back strong, we wanted that win.

That is just what the girls brought home winning 2923, well done ladies and thank you for making Carly’s 200th game memorable.

Best on Lisa Morey and coaches Michelle Groom UNDER 13 UNDER 13s had a great

game going goal for goal in the first half, with every girl getting their hands to many intercepts and scoring even more goals this week.

Every girl on court ran their hearts out and each week learning new things and getting more of a feel for the game.

Coming into the game with a bare seven and no bench, everyone pushed themselves and continuously worked to bring to ball down court.

Our best on this week went to Allira Cummins who had her hands to multiple intercepts and was pushing herself to bring the ball down court; she had a great voice on court and was always encouraging the girls to keep pushing.

Our coach’s award went to Lillian Kilroy who shot many goals this week and was always leading for the ball and pushing herself to get in front of her player, she had an amazing voice down court encouraging the girls and after every goal she shot would always celebrate and encourage the girls to keep going.

We couldn’t be happier with the game the girls played this weekend they had a good crack and we can’t wait to see how they perform next weekend.

Longwood hopes to turn form around KDFNL LONGWOOD FOOTBALL RESERVES THIS week we welcomed Lancaster to our home deck, in what was a tough week due to player availability with COVID and injuries.

We were up against it from the start, but with great numbers through our juniors and some ultra-committed players in our club we got both teams on the park.

Captain Beauden Webber was at his best around the ground and lead by example all day, Matty Ranger, Reece Dimech and Ryan Cumberland all played a role for the reserves.

Benny Grayham and Robert Welsh were strong players on the day, in the end Lancaster got the win 91 to 41 in what was a gutsy effort by our boys, we look forward to the challenge of Tally next week.

UNDER 18 IT was a tough day on the park for the young leggers coming up against a well rehearsed Lancaster.

The coaches put it upon some young leaders to lift after a slow first half, with the players responding positively and being much-improved in the second.

However the leggers did not just lay down and give up, they were hard at it for the whole game.

The young men are looking forward to their next hit out against Dookie United.

The seniors had an extremely tough day at the office.

The club takes on Tallygaroopna next.

UNDER 13s The Leggers’ under-13 footballers are “pumped” that they will have a game at Tally, thanks to the juniors from Shepparton East being willing

to make the trip.

Longwood was appreciative of the hospitality at the White Hart Hotel last weekend and looks forward to heading back to major sponsor the Peppermill Hotel this weekend.

The man once dubbed the ‘Big Hairy Cat’ will be a Redleg after Longwood snared the services of triple AFL premiership player Cameron Mooney.

The two-time Geelong and 1999 North Melbourne premiership player will turn out for the Redlegs later this season.

The excitement of the now Fox Footy commentator’s selection in the Carlton Draft had him promising to ‘kick five, or get five’ before a guest spot from some Redlegs at the White Hart Hotel for Sunday’s edition of ‘Bounce’.

A highlight onfield last weekend was club stalwart Carly Murphy turning out for her 200th club game in an impressive C Grade triumph.

The Leggers took the lead early, before being severely challenged by Lancaster to see a slender two-goal lead at the final change.

Best-on-court was Lisa Morey, while the coach’s award went to Michelle Groom.

NETBALL - A GRADE THE ladies had the bare minimum seven and fought hard for four quarters, falling by just two goals.

Best-on-court was wing attack Alex Hendren, who was consistent and determined across the entire game, and the coach’s award went to wing defence Toni Watson, who was a fierce

and dependable presence.

A theme across the club was a lack of availability due to injury and illness and that was no different in B Grade.

Jo Godfrey stepped in along with the return of Letitia McCrimmon to fill the void and do a terrific job.

Best-on-court went to Kaitlyn Norris, who was relentless rebounding and intercepting, while the coach’s award went to Serena Bleckwehl, who was extremely strong in defence.

The under-13s continued their improvement, shown by their capacity to again hit the scoreboard and improve on previous efforts.

Best-on-court was Allira Cummins, who was a strong and positive vocal presence for her team as well as winning lots of the ball and driving the Leggers down the court.

The coach’s award went to Lillian Kilroy, who had a successful game in the goal ring.

200 GAME MILESTONE: Longwood C Grade player and outstanding club person Carly Murphy was honoured for her 200 game milestone, capping it off with a win.

A-grade produced the stand out performers on the day with John Radeski (Deniliquin) compiling 40 stableford points, just ahead of captain John McHale (Valley View) with 39 pts.

In B-grade, Keith Rae (Shepparton) with 36 pts bettered Syd Roughsedge (Numurkah) on 35 pts.

C-grade winner was Maurice Webb, with 32 pts from Bill Chilcott on 31 pts.

Nearest the pin was contested on the 9th tee rated at about130m.

successful in A-grade; Jim Dean, Kialla, in B-grade; and Bill Chilcott (Shepparton) in C-grade.

Towners take bite out of bulldogs KDFNL - FOOTBALL VIOLET TOWN SENIORS TRAVELLING to Merrigum who boasted a 2-1 record, the Towners were up against a genuine finals aspirant in near perfect conditions considering the rain, a credit to the home side, slippery in patches but overall, a beautiful ground.

As seems the pattern the home side was all over the visitors early, again it was the defence that prevailed albeit a comfortable three goal lead at quarter time for Merrigum.

The Towners as they do

responded in the second quarter, Jack Exell up forward just brilliant, Fintan Brazil started to find the ball and the game was in the balance at half time, the home side by seven points and knowing they were kicking with a slight wind in the third.

Under siege early the backline led by Harry Sleigh and Tim Ross responded and repelled.

The home side could only manage six behinds for the quarter, to the Violet Town’s 2.1.

Exell running into an open goal after marking 60m

out with an open forward line right on the ¾ time siren, seemed to take a bit of wind out of the Dogs sails, the Towners were within a couple of points at the last break and could smell a kill.

A six goal to one final quarter onslaught saw the visitors home by 33 points.

Exell was clearly best, six goals from the key post a hand in others he oozes class.

Followed by James Herring whose move to the middle in the second half was a master stroke by coach Horsburgh brilliant, tenacious he belies his years.

But it took a team effort to avail, Riley Dowell just gets better and better, what a quality footballer, Harry Sleigh still a little underprepared was a general down back.

Fintan Brazil though turned the ship, eight possessions in the first half turned in to 32 by game end with three goals to boot, strong and classy he bullucked the Towners over the line.

Baldwin continues to amass clearances, when it got tough, he threw his hand up, nine clearances in the second half, 29 disposals,

elite, and big Jake Styles tormented his opponent in the ruck, eventually overpowering him to duly salute as the best big man on the ground.

Overall, a team effort that just continued to stick with the job at hand, all 21 should be proud.

A bigger opponent next week, Murchison, arguably Avenel’s biggest threat to the throne, thanks to the volunteers and especially Mick the trainer who does an exceptional job each week.

This week we have ladies day, then on May 28th we will celebrate the 40 year

reunion of the 1982 side and the 10 year reunion of the 2012 side.

Bowlers bring home well-deserved trophy LAST Tuesday, April 26 a good representative of Euroa bowlers went to the presentation night of the Goulburn Valley/Murray region held at the East Shepparton bowls club, enjoying the meal and the Euroa midweek pennant side was presented with the trophy they won in the final pennant match of the season.

They also witnessed the acknowledgement of the four Goulburn Valley Bowlers inducted into the hall of fame, namely Bev Cahill of Shepparton Park, Stacey Coller of East Shepprton, Matthew Robertson and Mark Ryan of Tallygaroopna.

All are great bowlers who have between them won several state and Australian awards and recognitions in their years of bowling.

The day before this went was the last official even of the Euroa Bowls Club for the season 2021-22, which was the Anzac Day bowls.

Eighteen players came along for the afternoon of bowls and the winners were Ken Sutcliffe (s), Pam Berkley, Beth Alston.

April 21 winners were T Kingma, Richard Noble, George Andrews and on the April 23 Tony Kingma, Beth Alston.

The afternoon concluded with a social game together enjoying the game.

Biscuits kindly made by Beth Alston went fantastically with a cuppa.

Social bowls has been continuing on Wednesdays and Saturdays and April 27 winners names are unknown but you know who you are - congratulations.

On Saturday April 30 thirteen bowlers played and winners were Tony Kingma and Ray Day. The next function at the club will be a trivia night on Friday, May 13 at 7pm.

The annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 25 at 7.30pm and a good attendance of members would be appreciated to welcome the new office bearers for the coming season 2022-23.

By ROB BROWNLEE ALL is in readiness for the club to host the Victorian Veterans Golf Association Carnival, already on Saturday, April 30 some competitors arrived with caravans ready to partake, a full report of the event in next week’s Gazette.

On Tuesday, April 26 not too many golfers took on the course to play stableford, many of the men were preparing the course, but that didn’t stop Kerry Hewlett winning with 33 points.

Sunday also saw the early visitors play a social round mainly to get a feel of the course, apparently already.

McMartins win Anzac Day RSL honour board event THE winners for the RSL Perpetual Shield Honour Board event played on Anzac Day were Dee & Laurie McMartin.

A field of 40 players enjoyed lunch together before Marion McMartin led the Anzac Day tribute.

The club house was splendid in Anzac Day colours thanks to Kae Lummas.

The McMartin’s were clear winners on 46 points from Mandy Edwards and Scott Watson on 42.

Freda Edwards and Ross Wishert were third on 41.

The Wednesday ladies competition had 18 players.

Freda Edwards took out division one with 36 points and Marg McCalpin won division two with 35 points.

Rae Farmer’s 17 points was the best in the nine-hole competition.

Only 14 men found their way to the Wednesday competition which was won by Pete McMahon on 37 points. He also cleaned up the two-ball prize and a nearest the pin on 18. Charlie Walker knocked one close to the win, the other nearest the pin.

Ball winners were Dick Farmer and Neal Healey on 35.

Don Bubeck and David McGregor on 34.

An inch of rain fell Friday night but cleared in time for the Saturday competitions.

Di Moody visiting from Traralgon won the ladies division one and Rachael Ritchie took out division two.

Fair to say the ladies scores were impacted by the heavy conditions.

The men overall were not much better only three men were able to beat their handicap.

Bill Wright had 39 points to win division one and Dav Mackrell 37 in division two.

Corradin Gilliland McIntosh and Don Bubeck shared the twoball pool, Owen Robertson was runner up on 38.

Paddy McCarthy and Dale McIntosh both with 35.

Rhys Andrews in his first game at Euroa for a while had 34 as did Frank O’Connor. Only 16 of the 38 players managed 30 or

more points.

On Sunday Euroa hosted division one pennant against Alexandra and had a comfortable 4/1 win.

Next Week they play Hidden Valley for a guaranteed spot in the final.

In division two Pennant, Paddy McCarthys team also had a big 4/1 win to put them in top position with a guaranteed finals spot.

The club house renovation are progressing well with new carpet laid during the week.

Next Saturday is the Drummond Gold monthly medal with Charlie Walker on office duty and the ladies medal for A scratch.

The GV Vets were at Tatura on Monday and Dalhousie Veterans are at Kilmore on the 12th of May.

NAGAMBIE GOLF CLUB IT was a case of “Unleash Rhys’ the big bombing junior golfer Rhys Shepherd about to celebrate a milestone birthday next week started celebrations early by winning his second monthly medal for the season.

Rhys took full advantage of the soft ground conditions and the need to hit the ball long to win the day’s stroke event.

With a 99-29-70 this was enough to claim victory by two strokes.

Runner up was Tim Baldwin coming to the fore as he

regularly does with his solid iron play recording 81-9-72, the third placed competitor was another that likes the give in the ground thumping his way to 80-7-73.

The nearest the pin prizes went to Jeremy Ezard with a controlled strike on the third Peter Lawrence driving one into the 8th Jeff ‘Joffa’ Mills made the perfect club selection to hound the flag stick at the 13th and Michael Roberts enjoying winning the 16th.

Next week’s golf is a stableford event with G. Bow on office duty and P. Neville in the bar, after golf at approximately 2.30pm the Finnigan Four ball Calcutta will be held.

Tough week Violet Town netballers KDFNL - NETBALL VIOLET TOWN A GRADE IT was the Merrigum side who controlled most of the game throughout the A grade match.

They created turnovers at both ends of the court and ultimately came out on top, taking the win against Violet Town.

It was a slow start for Violet Town, Merrigum came out fighting from the first whistle.

The strong intensity of the game pressured Violet Town into making multiple errors.

There were great passages of play from Violet Town and lots of turnovers; however the girls were unable to convert these into goals.

Merrigum held the lead all game, while Violet Town worked hard and were able to shorten Merrigum’s lead, but the defensive pressure from Merrigum in the second half became increasingly difficult to beat.

The Merrigum goalers hardly missed a shot when provided with the opportunity, however, Violet Town’s defenders turned on the pressure and made Merrigum work overtime to feed the ball into the ring.

Violet Town have a lot to take away from the game to work on to ensure they can win their next few games and stay within finals reach.

B GRADE AFTER coming off a convincing win to Avenel in round three, Violet Town were motivated to keep their winning streak going.

It took some time for the team to settle, which was a credit to the strong defensive pressure that Merrigum brought all game.

Unfortunately, Violet Town had a couple of key players out of there side, which affected the flow of their usual game.

The defenders worked hard all game and created multiple turnovers; however, we were unable to convert these into goals.

Violet Town struggled to build cohesion and create flow down court, which provides opportunity for growth before heading into the match up against Murchison next week.

Final Score VT 18 def by Merrigum 45.

Best on court Kat Jung, second best Teagan Kubeil.

C GRADE VIOLET TOWN started off their game slowly, however Tegan North was able to bring pressure and intensity to the side, encouraging the rest of the team to lift, however Merrigum’s defensive pressure was too strong for Violet Town.

It was a physical game, and the VT girls were unable to adjust quick enough.

The defenders worked tirelessly to provide our shooters with multiple opportunities at goals however were unable to covert these into goals.

There were multiple combinations used to try stop Merrigum’s lead, Violet Town adjusted quickly to these combinations and took them in their stride.

They have a lot to take away from the game and can reflect on this prior to another tough game against Murchison.

Final Score VT 7 def by Merrigum 70.

Best on court Brianna Cotchin, second best Tegan North.

15 and UNDER VIOLET TOWN were keen to stay positive all game and fight until the end, which they did.

In the first quarter it was a close contest with both sides putting on some fantastic defensive pressure.

Violet Town had some great passage of play and were working well as a team to get the ball down into the shooter.

At quarter time VT were not out of the game and in beautiful conditions the girls continued to work hard in the second, but both made some slight changes and which allowed Merrigum to lift, easily winning that quarter.

Violet Town continued to put on the defensive pressure all though the second half of the game, coming up with some fantastic intercepts, unfortunately Merrigum also came up with some intercepts and denied Violet Town from scoring off those opportunities created in defence.

A great team effort with some amazing passages for play.

The score really doesn’t reflect the game.

Well done girls.

A grade netballers dominate Swans GVFL NETBALL EUROA A GRADE THE Euroa girls were keen to back up after their win last week, but knew it was never going to be easy against the Shepparton Swans.

The midcourt was applying good defensive pressure from the first whistle, with Kellie Davidson and Tylah Marchbank creating numerous turnovers which saw Euroa establish a six goal lead to end the quarter.

In the second quarter, Euroa had difficulty creating their own flow of play with the physical pressure applied by the Swans, whilst the Euroa defence of Ellie Warnock and Tylah were still making Swans earn every goal.

The physicality that was in the attack end meant that Euroa were not converting, causing a slight decrease in their lead, but only by one goal.

The third quarter saw Euroa begin to absorb the pressure and start playing their own fast flowing game.

Sophie Owen coming into wing defence had an immediate impact on the game, combining seamlessly with the Magpie defenders and forcing the Swans to make errors.

The Euroa attack was feeding well into the ring and the goalers were now converting, ensuring the Magpies went into the last quarter with a 13 goal lead.

Euroa continued to apply the pressure and the Swans could not match them.

There were some great individual efforts by every member of the team, making it a great team effort.

The Euroa girls went on to win by 21 goals.

DEEP IN THOUGHT: Euroa Under 17 player Sienna Trotter thinks long and hard about her game plan.

Choosing the best player on Saturday would have been a very difficult decision, with coach Warnock deciding to hand such decisions over to her supportive bench.

Mary Frewen was using her height to regularly turn over the ball, a solid presence in the goal ring.

Cathryn Gray was her usual reliable self at goal defence, making sure the Shepparton goalers were under constant pressure for the entire game.

Kalarni Anderson had a great game on the wing, linking defence to attack with clever passes and consistent running.

At quarter time, the Swans had a narrow four goal lead and the game was up for grabs.

Demi Walker and Holly Johnston were combining well in the Magpie ring,

leading and creating space in what was a crowded attacking zone.

Ably supported by Elle Sanders, Ash Wilde and Chloe Salter in the mid court, the Euroa team were putting up shots and rewarding Magpie efforts all over the court.

For four quarters, the Magpies put up a strong fight, attacking and contesting with verve and vigour.

Their efforts were also rewarded by accurate shooting

by Molly Redfern, who put on the goal attack bib for the third and final quarter.

At the final whistle, it was the Swans by nine goals with the Euroa girls fighting hard to the end, but just pulling up short.

Lining up against the tall Shepparton Swans, the Magpies were slow to start- the inequality of height seeming to play on their minds.

However, once they settled into a rhythm, the Euroa girls more than held their own against their opponents, and played a much better brand of netball than they had collectively the week before.

The defensive unit of Lily Meehan, Laura Frewen, Chloe Salter and Millie Watson were under the pump from the outset, playing against the tallest goal shooter of the season thus far.

Once again, the magpies combined well and used plenty of positive talk and teamwork to overcome what is becoming an almost weekly unfair advantage to the opposition.

Sienna Trotter and Molly Redfern had a bit to prove on Saturday.

Both girls had had what could be classed as a “shocker” against Seymour, and both girls were acutely aware of it.

But as everyone knows,

netball is a team game, and losses and wins cannot be placed solely on the shoulders of only a few.

Sienna and Molly moved in developing synchronicity around the goal ring, holding strong and shooting much more accurately.

The magpie’s utility duo, Meg Walker and Abby Harrison, are both blessed with the ability to play a number of positions on the court as well as a fleetness of foot.

Meg and Abby zipped this way and that, intercepting and redirecting play to the Magpie’s gain, covering the entire court with ease.

Hannah Kubeil had a super game in the mid court.

Living up to the old adage, ‘big things come in small packages’, Hannah showed time and time again just how fierce is her competitive nature.

Hannah was pushed, shoved and contacted all over the court, and yet still managed to find space, create leads and chase down every loose ball- and doing it all with a smile of her face.

At the start of the third term, the Swans had a 20 goal- but much of this lead

had been established in the first 15 minutes of play.

The reminder of the game was a pretty even affair, with both teams showing flashes of brilliance, punctuated by the errors that so often accompany a junior game of netball.

At the end of the game, the Swans were victorious by 22 goals, not an ideal result for the Magpies, but certainly not the easy game many Swans supporters appeared to have been expecting before play began.

Best players awarded by the coach: Hannah Kubeil, Sienna Trotter, Millie Watson Swans 47. Euroa 25 UNDER 15 THE sun was shining and it was a beautiful morning at Princess Park in Shepparton for round 4.

It was always going to be a tough day out for Euroa, with Shepparton girls notoriously taller, but to their credit, the Magpies fought hard for the whole game.

Ruby Watson was fast and accurate in the centre.

Scarlett Trotter and Tess Walker tried hard in defence and Maggie Pittock was a great positive, encouraging voice to have on the court.

Oakley Paul never dropped her head in defence and was awarded best on, with Tash Reid and Maggie Pittock receiving the second and third awards respectively.

Our thoughts are with Tash Reid who was stretchered off with an injured ankle.

Everyone is hoping it is a speedy recovery, and we see Tash weaving her magic on the netball court in the not too distant future.

Swans 71. Euroa 19

Euroa post high score to win against the Shepparton Swans RESERVES THE Euroa reserves team came away with a very big win against the undermanned Swans team who to their credit they tried hard encouraging all their teammates.

With strong players all over the ground the team was quickly on the scoreboard, and this continued for the rest of the day resulting in twentyeight goals being scored whereas the opposition were only able to hit the scoreboard on two occasions.

Our group was again very well led by Linc McKernan who worked hard to give opportunities for all players to get good playing time during the game.

The experienced group headed up by Craig Bamford, Ash Hobbs, Robbie Wilson (playing his 101st Reserves game) and Matt Ivill set up many scoring opportunities by sharing the ball around the team.

The on ball brigade were

led by Hudson Ramsden in the ruck supported by Hayden Martin getting the ball to the midfield group consisting of Zach Gleeson, Harrison Jarvie, Craig Bamford and Ash Hobbs who all gained much of the ball.

It was good to see some of the young brigade given the chance to have some time in a on ball role.

The skipper Harrison Lane led the forward line well and had many scoring opportunities The backline had little work to do in their positions but with the players being moved around and the interchange being used all players were given the chance to play in different positions on the ground.

It was good to see a number of players scoring their first goals in senior football.

A number of the younger players are developing well and they should keep working on their skills which will help

them to keep pressing for a taste of senior football.

Parkrun for a special mother’s day A FABULOUS morning for parkrun post the heavy rain over night.

Thanks to our 26 runners / walkers who took part.

Another big thank you goes to our fantastic volunteers Renée, Penn, Ken, Charlotte, Ethan, Roberta, Bruce, Bob, Ruth, and Rick.

Remember parkrun is only possible because our volunteers give up their time and chance to run / walk each week, and some roles allow you to still participate such as pre course check, setup/pack up, and tail walker.

And also due to the layout of our course barcode scanner and finish token roles have the ability to walk/jog/run the first 1km loop

while they wait for the first runner to finish.

So if you could give us some time next Saturday or any Saturday we would love your company we have spots available on the roster.

Back-to-back wins for Magpies SENIORS THE senior Euroa football team was looking to continue their fine form from the previous week as they headed off to Princess Park Shepparton for their clash with Shepparton Swans.

In a tense first quarter where the home side took it right up to the visiting Magpies the scores were quite even. Max Gleeson began the game brilliantly in the back line with his cool, calm and collected approach wearing off on fellow back line players like Adam Giobbi.

Despite the absence of ruck Andrew Smith (wedding commitments) the stand-ins of Nate Stewart, Fletcher Paul (on debut), Ben Harrison and Ben Bath acquitted themselves very well.

Indeed, the debut of Fletcher was one the club hopes he remembers for many a year as he was welcomed into the group, performed well and had a team win - ticked all the boxes.

Up forward the likes of Erish Uthayalumar, Tristan Davies, Ben Bath and Jett Trotter began to assert their domi-nance over an inexperienced Swans outfit.

These forwards, along with the hard-working centre half forward Jack McKernan, were really delivering on the scoreboard in the second and third quarters, booting 12 goals two behinds across this

Mooney to suit up for the Redlegs

By GUS RIDDER FORMER AFL star Cameron Mooney will play a game for Longwood Football Netball Club after being selected with the third pick in the Carlton Draft.

The Carlton Draft is a campaign started by Carlton Draught to help clubs get back on their feet, bringing together Victorian communities and encouraging them to support local footy.

Mooney, who won three premierships in his 221game career, was one of eight former AFL players recruited by Victorian clubs as part of the draft.

He will play one game during this home and away season for the Redlegs.

Longwood’s club president, Rick Shiner, was

thrilled to have ‘Moons’ join the Redlegs.

“It’s huge for the club,” he said.

“Any of the eight guys would’ve been great but we’re very happy to have Cameron as part of the team.

“We’re hoping to get him around for a couple of functions, to sit down and talk about his career and hopefully get a junior clinic for the kids going.”

Mr Shiner spoke about the difficulties that the club had gone through in recent times and the process involved to be a part of the draft.

“It’s been hard to attract players at the moment,” he said.

“We’ve done it pretty hard on and off the field.

“The club has had a massive rebuild but we’re out of

debt.

“We filled out all the forms to apply and clearly they thought we were pretty deserving of being a part of the campaign.”

Dates have not been decided yet for when Mooney will join the side, with Mr Shiner hopeful that they could get that arranged shortly.

“We’d aiming to have it tie in with our President’s Lunch or the past players day which will be on May 21,” he said.

“We’ve only got him for one game but who knows maybe we can twist his arm to stick around.”

Other players selected in the draft were Jarryd Roughead, Eddie Betts, Dale Thomas, Nathan Jones, Brendon Goddard, Alex Rance and Shaun Burgoyne.
