Voice your support By MARTIN DAVIS ALPINE Health is hoping to harnesss ‘people power’ to help move forward with the ambitious $40 million Bright Health Precinct. While the masterplan for the precinct is in hand, both federal and state government funding is needed to bankroll the project to redevelop Bright hospital and build a new ‘high needs’ aged care facility. Around $26m is required from the Commonwealth to build a new 35 bed ‘high care’ aged care facility with the potential of an additional

Alpine p Health encourages g ‘people p p p power’ for $ $40m bid 2 x 7 bed units to become a total of 49 aged care beds. Victorian Government funding is needed to modernise the existing hospital and its nine acute rooms and create a new palliative care suite, and re-purpose Hawthorn Village (current aged hostel facility) for nurse education and health worker accommodation; with potential for a private medical centre to be co-located on site. With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Alpine Health has

been continuing to meet with the Bright community to discuss the precinct. Alpine Health chief executive officer Nick Shaw said recent discussions with Bright Senior Citizens, the Probus club and CWA branch, as well as public drop-in sessions at the Bright Library, had helped provide insight to the project and what the community desires for progression and funding of the precinct. Mr Shaw said members of the Bright community has asked

numerous times how they can help to ensure the health precinct gets built. He said those people who are wanting to show their support for the precinct could write a letter to state and federal governments to commit to capital funding needed to build “this incredibly important development in Bright”. “The development will improve and expand the provision of health services for the people of Bright and surrounding towns,” Mr Shaw said

“Especially for our senior citizens who at present have no other option but to leave their local community when they need to receive high-level care. “Every voice counts and with support from the community we can get the Bright Health Precinct built.” Alpine Health can assist community members in writing their letters, and is open to meeting with community groups to discuss the ongoing developments of the precinct. You can contact Alpine Health via email at info@alpinehealth. org.au or call 5751 9300.
