Providence High Arts’ spring production of Newsies received nominations for this year's Jerry Herman High School Musical Theatre Awards, and came home with a win!

Named after Tony-Award-winning composer, Jerry Herman, the organization has one goal: to constructively support local high school performing arts programs. Both public and private high schools from all over Los Angeles County submitted productions for consideration across twelve performance and technical categories.

Sabrina Williams ‘21 won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Race and the Costume Department (led by Beatrice Casini) was nominated for Best Costume Design.

In addition, two of the cast members, Sam Avila ‘19 (Jack Kelly) and Patrese Harnsberger ‘21 (Crutchie), competed in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. They endured a several day audition and rehearsal process, working alongside industry professionals as well as fellow student nominees from the region, and had an opportunity to perform on stage during the awards ceremony!

The awards show was held at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, May 5th .
