Patient Record
“The right information to the right people, at the right time.
Acuity Plus training
February 25th, 2013, Volume 1, Issue 4
Determining the correct number of staff for a given shift and factoring in patient complexity and acuity is a challenge every patient care unit is faced with. Each patient requires different care, and the time required for care differs from one patient to another. In January, Anna Polentini, an Implementation Consultant from QuadraMed, trained key clinical staff on a future functionality of the ePatient record that will help meet the challenge; Acuity Plus. This tool will allow every unit to calculate patient acuity, complexity and nursing workload via documentation related to direct patient care entered into the electronic patient record. Acuity Plus will measure how much care is needed per patient, but also the skills needed to provide the care. It will also take into consideration events that can significantly impact patient workload (i.e. an acutely ill patient). All information gathered from indicators, patient type and complexity, and range of care hours will be available via an array of reports offered by Acuity Plus. The reports will provide recommendations for the numbers of hours of care required by the patients on a given unit based on acuity and complexity. This will allow for better allocation of resources according to the patient care needs for that unit.
