OUR APPROACH

Sandra’s Story

Sandra has a learning disability and autism. For over 30 years, she lived in a residential care setting in a rural location with ten other adults. When Sandra was younger, she enjoyed spending time with others and helping on the farm. In later life, her health needs and interests changed.

Our top priority is to provide high-quality care and support to the people we work with. We listen to their needs and direction, and work with their circles of support to find ways to make their goals and dreams a reality. We are committed to moving forwards, keeping life exciting, and celebrating every achievement.

Sandra’s social worker reached out to Prosperity Care and Wellbeing to find an alternative care option. Sandra now lives in a quiet, homely environment with one other person, which offers her and her housemate plenty of space. Sandra’s sister said; ‘Sandra has found a new lease of life and is the happiest and most settled she has been in many years. She has an active social life and the staff at Prosperity Care and Wellbeing are wonderful.’

We are grateful to have been able to support Sandra in finding a living situation that meets her needs and allows her to thrive.

Complex Behaviour Support

We are committed to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities and complex needs. We understand that people may sometimes present with behaviours which can be described as ‘challenging’, such as verbal or physical aggression. We believe that all behaviour is communication and that it is often a tool used to tell us when something is not going well for the individual.

To support people who exhibit these behaviours, we use the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model, which focuses on improving quality of life by adapting our support, environments, and systems to better meet the needs of the individual. By changing our approach and minimising triggers, we are able to reduce behaviours that challenge and improve the quality of life for the individual and those around them.

Physical Disability Support

We understand that living with a physical disability can present unique challenges and strive to provide the highest quality care and support to help people to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

We believe in developing skills, achieving goals and supporting wellbeing. The support we provide for people with physical disabilities is fully tailored to meet each person’s particular needs, personal goals, and lifestyle. Where required, we use assistive technologies to support independence and make sure that peoples’ homes are suited to their needs.

Mental Health Care

We support people with mental health needs in their journey towards recovery. Our staff are trained to provide compassionate, non-judgemental support to individuals who may be in crisis, recovery, or simply need assistance to maintain their mental wellbeing.

We offer flexible levels of support that can be tailored to the needs of each individual. This can range from 24-hour support to visiting support, depending on the person’s needs. Our support can include providing companionship, helping to establish routines and skills, learning coping strategies, supporting with medication, accessing education or work, and building self-esteem and motivation.
