The main objective is to explore the potential of urban planning and how it could affect and upgrade the general city planning of Kalamata. Divided in two parts, the observation / analysis of the current situation and the proposal of an updated master plan. Some triggers of inspiration were the contrasts, the rich background, the location, the human scale, the rapid evolution and the importance the city had over the years at regional, national and international level. Through examining the city’s evolution and heritage from the 19th century till 2011, formulating its objectives, opportunities and priorities, a series of interventions is proposed to gradually change the image in order for the city to reach its full potential. Advancing previous proposals of smaller scale studies, initiatives and events that shaped and set it, filling the gaps that arise due to continuous changing of needs of the city and everyday life alongside the economical / technological / cultural evolution.
