30 April 2016 Malaysia Hall, London
“We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill Introduction Kalsom High-Tea Fundraiser was organised in London for the first time with aims to gather funds and also, to spread the word about education inequality that is a critical issue in our country. With 29 attendees who graced our event in Malaysia Hall, we managed to collect GBP 290.00 from ticket sales. We were proud to have invited Yang Berbahagia Datin Rosilawati Abdul Rafter from PERWAKILAN as our guest of honor. The event was officiated by Professor Zainal from Education Malaysia. In conjunction with the Kalsom High-Tea Fundraiser, the Kalsom Commonwealth Cultural Programme was also launched in the same occasion by the Bristol Commonwealth Society representatives together with Dr Hannah Nazri from Kalsom Board of Trustees and the president of The Kalsom Movement, Syed Muhammad Abdul Hadi Arief. Bake sale and High-tea For the bake sale, two mouth-watering cakes; the “Japanese Cotton Cake” and “Toffee Apple Cake” contributed by Salsabila Khuzairi and Jannah Jailani which was sold for GBP5.00 per piece managed to collect GBP 55.00. As part of this event, a cake auction was organised two days earlier on the 28 th April 2016 through Facebook, moderated by Jalaluddin Mohd Zaiki and Amirah Dayana Chairil, who are a committee member and volunteer of The Kalsom Movement respectively. A handful of Malaysian students across the United Kingdom had participated in the auction leading it to produce an interesting thread of comments on Facebook, with an intense atmosphere. Everyone was excited to be a part of this good cause. From a starting price of GBP30 for each cake, prices for both cakes went up sky high in just minutes.
