For Immediate Release THE COMMUNITY UNITES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF UNHOUSED NEIGHBORS Hillsboro, Ore., February 20th, 2024 – Project Homeless Connect Washington County, a local nonprofit, is once again organizing its renowned "One Day Event," bringing together service providers, community volunteers, and staff to offer a comprehensive array of services and resources for neighbors experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The upcoming event will take place on Friday, February 23rd, from 9 am to 3 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (282 NE 32nd Ave, Hillsboro, OR 97124). Project Homeless Connect (PHC) has evolved into a comprehensive organization addressing homelessness in Washington County, boasting a street outreach team, access center, shelter, and housing programs. In 2023, PHC served over 2,000 individuals, providing each person with personalized care. This accomplishment reflects their mission of empowering individuals experiencing houselessness by meeting them where they are and walking with them on their unique journeys towards stability and self-reliance. This event is integral to PHC's mission and vision of ensuring all Washington County residents have a stable place to call home. It serves as a one-day, one-stop project designed to connect individuals in need to essential services and support while mobilizing the community around this critical issue. With homelessness rates rising by a staggering 12% nationwide over the past year, collective action is more crucial than ever. Project Homeless Connect anticipates serving between 200 – 300 individuals at the upcoming One Day Event. These events are made possible through the support of local hosts, typically different churches, and service providers. PHC is pleased to announce the participation of 37 service providers, including but not limited to Pacific University School of Dentistry and Optometry, Medical Teams International, Providence Nursing, Mental Health and Addiction Association of Oregon, Haircuts for Humanity, Emu Feet Care LLC, WorkSource Oregon, and Department of Veteran Affairs. In addition to various behavioral and medical healthcare, housing, and family services, attendees will be provided with a warm breakfast and lunch, as well as access to a large clothing closet - provided through community donations. This event exemplifies the power of community collaboration, innovation, and compassion. Meaningful connections are sure to be made, and lives are bound to be positively impacted.
