Partnering for excellence in mental health care and treatment for children and families
At Progress Ranch, our team is committed to providing truly excellent mental health care and treatment for some of California’s most vulnerable children and families.
Founded in 1976, we have been serving children as part of the Davis community for more than 40 years. Our team of enthusiastic mental health workers and seasoned professionals brings more than a century of combined experience helping children suffering from trauma prepare to move into safe, secure, lifelong relationships.
We draw wisdom and strength from each other’s diverse experiences, perspectives, cultures, and beliefs, even as we are unified by our mission to inspire hope and healing by empowering families; serving with integrity; and celebrating diversity, resiliency, and community.
I am passionate about building authentic relationships that empower kids, families, and other team members to grow stronger together.
I am committed to growing alongside my clients as I support them in their healing process, in learning new skills, and in identifying and working through different challenges.

I am thankful for getting the help I need and seeing family.
Child, age 10
Our children and their families are inspiring and resilient. Most have been in the foster care system. Our children have survived abuse and neglect. They have often learned that adults cannot be trusted and have developed mental health conditions involving unsafe behaviors such as aggression and self-harming.
The children of Progress Ranch are at a crossroads. When they come to us, their trajectory is the same as so many others who do not get the support they need. Many foster youth end up dropping out of high school, becoming homeless, and spending time in jail. This is not the future we see for the children of Progress Ranch. They deserve the mental health treatment that will give them a chance at life in a family with a bright future!

How do we give our children and families another chance at lifelong connections? We start by building relationships. Our attachment-based program is grounded in the understanding that the first step to healing is experiencing trust, respect, and healthy relationships. Progress Ranch professionals and volunteers see the best in each child while they begin the healing process.
This work is paid for through a combination of funding sources that includes a contract with Yolo County Health and Human Services to provide specialty mental health services for dependent youth and wards of the court. We also work with private insurers, but count on donors to provide additional financial support to enhance programming and defray the actual costs of preparing our children for a bright future.
In our residential treatment program, we provide formal support such as academic tutoring, therapy, individual and group therapeutic activities, case management, family engagement, teaching daily living skills, and consistent structure that provides safety.
Additionally, our children often participate in activities such as horseback riding, sports, swimming, gymnastics, and community events. In short, our programming includes a combination of formal case management and “normal” childhood experiences that are both therapeutic and fun!
I am so happy and excited that we will be spending our very first Christmas together. Progress Ranch staff started the process of proving to him that not only could adults be trustworthy, but they could also keep him safe and protected.
From July 2021 through June 2022, Progress Ranch worked with 23 children and families. They built and repaired lifelong relationships and graduated into family settings, participated in community activities and overcame many challenges.
Progress Ranch is very special. The staff are professionals who really care about the kids and families. It doesn’t feel institutional because of the family style setting and community involvement.

Most of our children have changed schools and homes many times over the years. They are often behind academically and will benefit greatly from healthy relationships with volunteers. Not only does tutoring and mentoring improve their chances of academic success, but it can also build self-esteem and increase overall health and wellbeing.
Volunteer your carpentry, plumbing, electric, or other household skills to work on home improvement projects that keep our children’s living spaces comfortable and safe. It is expensive and labor intensive to update the houses our children live in. Financial donations paired with technical expertise make it possible to provide a space where children can practice the skills they will need to be successful in a family setting.
Advocate for important legislation to ensure mental health programming for children has needed resources and appropriate policies so our team of professionals can provide the right treatment for our children and families. Sign up for our mailing list to receive notifications about opportunities for advocacy by emailing: info@progressranch.org.
Donate items from our Dreamlist posted at progressranch.com/donate. The Dreamlist includes specific items that will greatly benefit our kids, but we cannot afford to purchase. We regularly keep the dreamlist updated, so check back often!
