Welcome to our Autumn 2025 Dairy catalogue. This year marks a significant improvement for the agricultural sector, as we witnessed a positive increase in prices across the sector along with favourable weather conditions. We are delighted to launch our Autumn 2025 catalogue with an extensive range of dairy and beef sires to provide for all production systems. At the core of our catalogue is the National Cattle Breeding Centre (NCBC) and its extensive breeding programme, which reflects our commitment to excellence in animal genetics. NCBC has been operating the national breeding programmes for Progressive Genetics and Munster Bovine for the last 20 years. It has contributed significant progress to the national dairy and beef herd and will continue to invest in the latest innovative technologies to bring further improvements for producers in the areas of fertility, milk solids, beef merit, efficiency, and animal health with a particular focus on TB resistant sires. By focusing on genetic improvement and performance, we aim to provide farmers with the tools they need to enhance productivity and profitability.
Our extensive range of services equips the farmer with a range of tools, including elite genetic solutions, milk recording, pregnancy testing, Genocells, Agrinet HerdApp, calf collection schemes, AI service, and our latest partnership with MSD Sense Hub heat detection systems. This year, our genetic offering features a selection of sires that excel in genetic diversity, type, production, and health traits sourced directly from our international partners Semex, Genus ABS, Synetics, and KiKampen. These companies provide world class genetics from various breeding programmes around the world. This September’s genetic evaluation from the Irish Cattle Breeding federation (ICBF) includes some changes to the EBI. These changes include enhanced methodologies for evaluating health and management, as well as updated economic values that account for rising input costs, which will primarily affect the beef and maintenance sub-Indexes. Additionally, the base cow population will be updated to reflect the genetic progress achieved for milk production and fertility, moving from cows born in 2005 to those born in 2015. As a result of the base change the overall impact on all animals will be a reduction of €97 in EBI with decreases of €45 in the milk sub index and €52 in the fertility sub index.
As you explore our Autumn 2025 catalogue, we invite you to discover the exceptional genetics and innovative technologies that will drive your farming future. The Progressive Genetics team believe in building strong relationships with our customers and we will collaborate with you in partnership to achieve your breeding goals. Thank you for your custom and we wish you the best for the Autumn 2025 season.

Genocells will allow Milk Recording customers to identify the highest contributors to Bulk Tank SCC by analysing a single bulk tank milk sample.
It is based on matching the genotype (DNA code) of the cow to her DNA in the somatic cells in the bulk tank sample.

This service is only available to Milk Recording customers whose herds are fully genotyped.

Genocells is now available as a service to Milk Recording Customers.
cows

At least one milk recording must be completed before a GenoCell test can take place. What must I do to take part in Genocells?
All cows must be Genotyped prior to participating in the GenoCells programme.
The herd must be a member of ICBF herd plus.
The herd must be signed up to complete 4 milk recordings in the calendar year.

The base cow has been updated from animals born in 2005 to cows born in 2015 (calved in 2017 and milk recorded for the next 5 years). Cows born in 2015 have an EBI that’s €97 higher than those born in 2005, indicating that the national herd has improved by an impressive €97.
The gain in EBI is due to improvements in Milk Sub-Index (€45) and Fertility Sub-Index (€52), highlighting the success of Irish breeding programmes. This means that your herd’s EBI figure will drop by the same amount due to the national adjustment (€97).
This doesn’t mean your cows are genetically worse – it simply reflects the new reference point. For instance, a cow with an EBI of €197 in the May evaluation, will now have an EBI of €100.
Teagasc also have updated the economic values used in EBI to more accurately reflect higher output prices (€0.40c/litre) and higher input costs such as feed €370/tonne and fertiliser prices €550/tonne. The most notable changes will be seen in the Beef and Maintenance Sub Indexes due to the increased economic value of beef and rising feed costs.
Combining the economic changes with the base change, farmers will see a reduction of approximately €83 on each animal.
As before, the Maintenance SI can be used to estimate the average mature liveweight of cows in your herd. This gives you a reliable guide for expected mature liveweights of animals. Each €1 change effects the weight by approximately 1.7kg.

Progressive Genetics works closely with our international partners to secure truly impactful bulls like Yamaska, Perseus, Prince, and Appeal. This year, our catalogue is filled with exemplary daughter-proven and genomic bull profiles from cow families that we know will succeed. We focus on high components (%), production (CFP), health (SCS), and various fertility traits (FI, PL, DPR), while also ensuring the correct linear profile. Our strong relationships with international partners allow us to source any available sire from their lineup. Progressive Genetics is committed to finding and offering the best sires that deliver ultimate farmer satisfaction and profitability.

For Autumn 2026 born bulls & heifers

We are looking to partner with forward thinking Irish dairy farmers to inseminate the very best wagyu genetics in the world and to give this premium product the best start in life.

Priority is placed on cows with low maintenance scores and herds with exceptional calf husbandry when selecting participants for the programme.
Wagyu calves have to be 28 days old with a target weight of 45kg before leaving the dairy farm.
A complimentary on-farm collection service is offered to all dairy farmers.
OUR PRODUCTION CRITERIA:
Requirements
• All participating farmers must be part of the ICBF National Genotyping Programme or willing to join.
Only farmers who are Bord Bia Quality Assured are eligible to supply calves. Cows with Jersey genetics are not permitted within this programme.
Adequate Colostrum
All of our dairy farmers are required to administer a minimum of 3 litres of colostrum within the first few hours after birth.
First Vaccinations
• All calves must receive their first pneumonia vaccination before leaving their place of birth.
DNA, EID, BVD Tagging
All calves must undergo DNA testing as part of the National Genotype Programme. The cost of the DNA tags will be the responsibility of the dairy farmer. Calves are not permitted to leave the dairy farm until both BVD and DNA test results have been received and approved.
