“Stoop Stories is a proud and grateful grantee of Brooklyn Arts Council! With BAC’s support, we produced the short doc film, "Stoop Chat with Jimmy & Shanaya," which recently won best documentary at Urban Dreams Mental Health Film Festival and helped us grow our team and community. This summer, we will produce the third short in this intergenerational “Stoop Chat” series. The goals of this series of films and programs are to increase social connection, preserve neighborhood stories, and revitalize communities through stoop culture and intergenerational connections.”

“We received our first grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council in 2009, which enabled us to pay poets at our Parachute Festival at the New York Aquariums jellyfish exhibit. We have paid poets and artists ever since. Poets and artists deserve to be paid! Applying for BAC grants over the years taught me how to write grants and served as a stepping stone to apply for larger grants. Parachute Literary Arts has grown from a volunteer-run to a staffed community arts nonprofit. THANK YOU!”

“Working with Brooklyn Arts Council for the past two years gave me an extraordinary opportunity to apply my teaching philosophy and the freedom to create diverse and creative student-centered curricula that explores different art medium, bring experience of artists into the classroom and provide students with a unique learning opportunities that can be explored later in life. Art Education is a necessity not a luxury. It goes beyond art techniques and exposes students to a broad range of knowledge and skills, brings cross curricular experience, enlightening of thoughts, life skills, self confidence, expressing and communicating ideas, becoming better makers and thinkers, understanding community, collaboration, openness to others; all the tools needed to become successful and productive members of the society.”

“As a Scottish immigrant artist making documentary theatre in New York today, my annual SU-CASA/Creative Aging Projects are amoungst my proudest and most fulfilling creative processes. It is such a privilege to connect with diverse seniors each Spring, spending hours with them, talking about their lives, their pasts, their futures, their dreams and their reflections on the ever-changing borough we all call home - Brooklyn. Turning these discussions into documentary theatre alongside these incredible folks is such a joy, and I learn so much from them every year - about life, perspective, survival, morality and integrity. It truly is a project for, by and of these seniors. I have been an artist with the Brooklyn Arts Council for years, and so appreciate all they do for our borough and the arts ecosystem here. I am proud to be a part of this community, and proud to be a Brooklyn Arts Council artist.”
