THE HISTORY OF VILLA LORENZELLI Since submission to Florence in 1370, the territory of San Miniato had become an area of expansion for the families of the dominant city. At the same time, however, it appeared a group of local families who had found during the XV° century, through the mediation of the local religious, a new balance with the representatives of political-military Florence, vicars. In the village of Bucciano, that was just part of the County of San Miniato, in the early 1600s was built what is now Villa Bucciano. The owner was Baccio Morali, of an aristocratic family of San Miniato. The villa has been for many years the subject of inheritance controversy of the 2 children of Moral. At that time the villa had a double price compared with the municipal building of the town. After the Morali’s, the villa passed into the hands of another illustrious owner. Alfonso Lorenzelli, aristocratic from Bologna, who bought the villa and the surrounding land in 1910. After 300 years in the hands of Morales, Alfonso Lorenzelli found a small empire of sharecroppers and country life. The geographical position conquered him, and since then it became his summer residence. A relative of the Family Lorenzelli was the Cardinal Benedetto Lorenzelli, Archbishop of Lucca, who wanted to build a small chapel in the Italian garden. Nowadays, the chapel is still consecrated and keeps the same mystical charm of the past. After the Lorenzelli family, who spent their holidays and all their festive occasions here together, the property has been abandoned for a long time, waiting for someone who could make revive the ancient splendor. The Bianchi Family purchased the Villa in the 90’s. They proudly show photos of how they found the property at the beginning and how they have slowly brought it to light. Today Bucciano Villa looks like a charming and welcoming village where you can spend moments of absolute tranquility, in full contemplation of the landscape and listen to the sweet silence of the Tuscan hills. Few years ago, the Bianchi family decided to bring to light also the Cardinal Villa which belonged first to the Morali’s and then to the Lorenzelli’s. The frescoes have been restored and the Italian garden looks perfectly cultivated, in the living room on the ground floor have returned the dances that once rejoiced in the Easter holidays the early twentieth century.
