The pundit are notorious for their prophecies of gloom anddoom. Indeed there is death (Being Mortal, p.2). There is long term societal entropy to worry about, Political Order and Political Decay,(p.5) which is the second volume of Francis Fukuyama’s magnum opus on the evolution and nature of politics.
And, the past was a better place wasn’t it? Trains were cleaner and less crowded (Belles and Whistles, p.7),and England’s counties more distinctive (Engel’s England, p.13). But, Life Goes On (p.11). But there remain plenty of opportunities for Adventures in Stationery (p.14) and we can scare ourselves for pure pleasure with Susan Hill’s perfect ghost story Printer’s Devil Court (p.10). Or we can stretch our brains with the New Scientist (p.8) or Professor Stewart’s Casebook of
Mathematical Mysteries (p.9). If all that fails, we can watch a good film (p.15), or sing a rousing Christmas Carol which always lifts the
spirits (p.17). Indeed, there is plenty to look
forward to.
Enjoy.
