Hello and welcome.

I'm Professor Winn, author of the englishlanguagetestprep.com blog.

Thank you for being with me here today to review these resources to help you to boost your score on the TOEFL exam.

Originally, all of this started with a Quora question: 1 week to prepare for a high TOEFL score?

Well, the question is a little fantastic.

However, I did take the bait, and originally I created a response on my Quora space to this question.

I started with some video resources, some resources that I curated from YouTube of material that I actually use in my own TOEFL preparation when I'm working with students.

Whether I'm working with students on my day job, or whether I'm working with private students as well.

These are some of the trusted resources that I find on the Internet, and I listed them here in the Quora article.

Now you can access the original Quora article at bit.ly/qu0021toefl.

And you can read the original article because I also wanted to answer a similar question from Quora today.

So I updated my original article with actually even more resources because I've written a lot more since on TOEFL.

And those are reflected in a blog article that I wrote after this original article on Quora that contains some of the resources.

And actually, I have updated that blog article as well with some more resources.

So let's go ahead and look at that updated blog article, which has even more resources about TOEFL.

The article I wrote on my blog is entitled Seven Things About the TOEFL IBT Exam for a High Score.

You can access that article at https://bit.ly/7toefls.

So let's go ahead and take a look at each of these seven things. Now, the first thing. Number 1 Know your score.

Whether you are applying for admissions to an English speaking university, perhaps you are applying for scholarship money or simply immigration as well.

Always know the score that you need.

In particular, if you are planning to attend an English speaking university, make sure that you find out what is the TOEFL Speaking score and what is the TOEFL Writing score that they're looking for.

They always usually break down what they want for these productive [00:03:00] sides of English.

Once you know that what your TOEFL score is, this is gonna help you to perhaps create a study plan, and I hope you have a study plan.

Create a study plan to help you to get ready for a high score on the TOEFL exam.

Once you know your current abilities of English and you know the score that you need on the TOEFL, then you can modify your plan accordingly.

If you are stronger in English, maybe you need less time to prepare for the TOEFL exam given the score that you need.

Or if you have weaker skills in English, perhaps you need longer time to study for the TOEFL exam.

I always suggest a minimum of three months to get started.

All right, let's move on to Number 2 and that is build a strong vocabulary.

If you listen to any of my podcasts.

Or you have read my blog articles or watched any of my videos.

I stress this point constantly because this is exactly what I tell my own students.

When you know you're gonna start preparing for the TOEFL or IELTS or TOEIC exam, start strengthening your word power.

You need to be able to paraphrase on the exam.

You need to be able to write an essay on the TOEFL test.

And express yourself well in those four speaking questions .

Build your vocabulary, and I have some suggested ways to build your vocabulary in this article.

This is the video that I have created recently, talking about seven things that you can do to help prepare for the TOEFL test.

A couple of those things kind of overlap with this original article that I wrote here on the blog.

However, they go in more in depth as well.

When you visit the blog article at https://bit.ly/7toefls make sure that you also watch this video so you get even seven more things that you can do.

They're gonna help you to improve your TOEFL score.

Let's roll on to number three.: Learn Academic English.

The TOEFL test is all about the university.

You usually learn Academic English at the university.

However, you're going to need to know a bit of Academic English before you take the TOEFL exam.

I have written a book about Academic English. I've written articles.

I've created videos about Academic English.

Know Academic English before you take the TOEFL exam.

Number 4: Stay motivated.

Usually TOEFL preparation may take a couple of months, maybe three months.

Sometimes it's difficult for candidates to sustain the confidence and also their motivation for the exam.

As the days wind on and more that you study, whether it's speaking or writing, it gets sometimes challenging to stay motivated .

To keep that edge so that you're ready for the exam.

This is one reason why you might consider studying with a TOEFL teacher, which we talk about a little bit later.

But Number 4 - For TOEFL, stay motivated.

Number 5: Build time management skills.

The TOEFL exam- everything is timed.

You need to be aware of the timings of each of the sections on the test. What type of answers the graders are looking for and to give them those answers .

Save time by knowing the directions and the formats of the answers, especially the 5 paragraph essay.

Also writing Task 1, the Integrated Writing. Make sure you know the formats of the answers they're looking for.

And this is especially important for TOEFL Speaking. Make sure that you know how to respond to the four questions that they're going to ask you.

Number 6 - Be a good note taker.

When you're studying for the exam, it's very important that you are a good note taker.

This is indispensable in the TOEFL listening section and also in the TOEFL speaking section.

Really, most of the TOEFL sections, you need to be a good note taker.

Especially listening because you only hear the audios once.

Speaking when you need to try to keep up with the details that they give you, whether it's a lecture or the conversation.

Taking notes is going to help you immensely on the TOEFL test.

Finally, as I alluded to earlier.

Number 7, yes, I do suggest that you prepare with a native English TOEFL instructor.

Of the seven things that you need to do to get a TOEFL score.

Number seven, prepare with a native TOEFL instructor like me Professor Winn.

As I said, when you are trying to sustain your motivation, your confidence, and also to know that you're studying the right things and approaching your TOEFL preparation the right way.

You want to be able to rely on someone who's an expert, who can guide you through that process.

If that admissions to the university is so important.

If winning the scholarship money that you need, which may determine if you can go to that university or for immigration purposes.

You should invest your time and yes, invest some money so that you're able to be able to achieve that score that you want by taking the test the first time and only time.

That's my teaching philosophy with the IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC exam.

That is take the test once and get the score that you need and move on.

Whether it's TOEFL writing, speaking, listening, or reading.

There's various reservations that you can make, whether you want two hours, six hours, or even 12 hours of study to help you get that score that you're looking for.

And as I said, so you take the test once and move on with your life.

Get into the university that you're looking for, Win that scholarship money that you need,.

Or get the score that you need to pass immigration, move to a new country and start a new life.

It really is an investment, as I said, of time and money and resources so that you achieve the TOEFL score that you're looking for.

Again, thank you for being with me today for these TOEFL resources that are gonna help you to improve your score in the shortest amount of time possible.
