The Online Classroom: Strategies for Higher Ed Teaching and Learning is a new program designed to support educators in colleges and universities as they rethink and transform their practice for online and blended environments. Through research-based frameworks, actionable strategies, and a dynamic peer-learning community, this workshop provides you with the necessary knowledge and skills to advance your virtual teaching, learning, and leadership

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The Online Classroom: Strategies for Higher Ed Teaching and Learning is a four-week online workshop where you will gain a deeper understanding of how to create and facilitate engaging online learning environments at the college and university level. This workshop includes practical resources, ongoing discussions, and supportive peer-feedback.

Each week, you will work iteratively on the development of a deliverable unique to your context, such as the design of an online lesson or facilitation plan. Rather than adding more work to educators’ busy schedules, this workshop provides you with the time, space, and resources necessary to complete the work you already have underway related to online and blended learning.

The program is designed for higher education professionals, including: • Educators, Administrators, and Institutional Leaders in Higher Education • Higher Education Faculty, Professors, Instructors, Curriculum Designers, Academic Chairs, Academic Administrators, Program Directors Registration will take place on an individual basis, and teams are welcome.

FACULTY CHAIR

Weekly topics include: • Research-based frameworks to support learning design and digital pedagogy • Guidance on effective facilitation and best practices for developing virtual teaching presence • Strategies for creating online learning activities and assessments • Models for developing and sustaining a sense of community This learning experience is asynchronous and takes place within the learning management system Canvas​.

Asynchronous programs do not have any live components and are designed to be self-paced. H ​ owever, this program does include a suggested weekly schedule with two days per week for assignments due, in order to provide a guiding structure. Completing assignments on the recommended schedule is not mandatory, but allows participants to engage with and learn from the entire cohort, which helps to build a community of practice.

Barbara Treacy Adjunct Lecturer on Education Barbara Treacy is a nationally recognized leader in online and blended learning who works with states, districts, colleges and universities, and other educational organizations to enable them to build successful online and blended programs for educators and students. Example current projects include consulting to the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation to develop blended curriculum and capacity-building facilitator training for the national Leadership in Blended Learning Program, and consulting to the NYC Leadership Academy to develop a blended model for their year-long principal residency program.

She is the chair of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Digital Learning Advisory Council and she is a member of the MIT Online Education Policy Initiative committee and the Project Tomorrow Advisory Board.
