Adversity Essay
Successful business leaders – or people in general – don't give up when adversity strikes. They find the ways and means to carry on. Sometimes, it takes a trip to hell and back to really open your eyes. And sometimes, really opening your eyes can change your whole life. (Pirouz, 2015). This essay will focus to explain how past life experiences shape leaders' character and skills in order to leverage on adversity. Only leaders that take risks and make mistakes have the experience acumen to face hardship, overcome it or learn from it.
According to Bennis, "Experiences aren't truly yours until you think about them, analyze them,...show more content... On becoming a leader. New York, NY: Basic Books/Perseus. ISBN: 9780465014088

Dealing With Adversity
If you were a famous athlete dealing with adversity, how would you handle it? Adversity is any obstacle you have in life, it could be a disability, it could be a fear of something, or it could be a lot of different things. Many people around you could have some type of adversity. Both famous athletes and non–famous people can have adversity, but how are they different? How are they similar? Who would it be harder to be? I believe that being a famous athlete with adversity would be harder than being a non–famous person with adversity. I believe that if you were a famous athlete dealing with some type of adversity, it would be harder than being a non–famous person with adversity because of how the media would affect you. I think this because

Which are you? Gail Lynne Goodwin once said, "Adversity provides the opportunity for the best part of us to shine." In all situations of adversity people act differently. Some in positive ways as well as some in negative ways. I personally have seen myself be the carrot, the egg, and the coffee bean. If I had to choose one that I am mostly like, I would say the coffee. In situations of meeting new people and trying new things I see myself trying to make the most out of it. If you do not take advantage of new situations I believe that you will end up regretting it. This goes along with the quote, "In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take." This is the perfect quote for the coffee bean, because they grow by changing. Other situations I could be considered the carrot. I say this because when things change and aren't working out for me I tend to shut down. This is not a good thing. Sometimes through these situations I also find that I'm not being true to myself. Through change you should try your hardest to grow for your own sake. Adversity is definitely a hard part of life that you have to continue to be strong and not get weak and wilt...show more content...
While reading the description of the egg I realized I don't want to be bitter on the inside. I don't want to become hard and stiff because of the hardships in life. Each person has most likely been the egg at one point in time. It's difficult to do, but when life knocks you down you either get back up even better than before or you can stay down. But, you can't protect yourself from adversity forever. Throughout your life you will find different situations dealing with adversity. When these situations pop up, you have to learn to stay strong and make the best of each situation. In the long run life is too short to be the carrot or the egg. You need to embrace the adversity with your head up and while staying strong. Are you strong while dealing with difficult

Mark Haver March 5, 2012 Period 3 MW AP English Argument Essay
Adversity has a way of bringing up challenges unexpectedly, most people shrink away from it and get consumed, but when they push through it people come out stronger than they were before.
Throughout history there has always been adversity, even today there are people who struggle to cope with it in their everyday lives, but some are able to overcome it as individuals and move on. But sometimes there are situations so adverse it takes more than one person to overcome mentally and/or physically.
One of the greatest examples of more than one person coming together and over coming adversity would be the Romans. They started out as a small group...show more content...
When in the doctor's office it can be a really tense situation for the patient. But that is why doctors describe the many benefits of getting a shot, to administer medicine or a vaccine to keep people from getting sick and prevent infections or diseases. After the patients know that a shot isn't that bad, they are more mentally prepared for the next time and will not be afraid. Driving also can be adverse because it puts a person in control of an object that has an incredible amount of force, and has varied velocity and if they should crash, it could mean serious injury or worse to both the driver and/or other people. So it's up to the driver to stay focused and pay attention which can be very stressful and kind of scary. But a driver must push through their fears of driving in order to stay focused; after these fears are pushed aside they are much stronger mentally than they were before
Adversity is something that many people are able to over come, most people can by themselves, others it requires a lot of help and if they work together and set aside petty fears it will be overcome. When they come out to the other side they will be stronger that before both mentally and/or

Reflection On Adversity
Character is a reflection of how one encounters adversity "As with the butterfly, adversity is necessary to build character in people." (Wirthin) For millions of years, humans have faced adversity and in doing so, they have understood that it is a key factor in shaping character. The life teaching novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a perfect example of this statement. The insidious, yet inspiring novel grasps its readers and takes then on a journey of self reflection. In fact, the New York Times book review says "it has changed many perspectives on life itself " (Times). The book's greatest lesson is portrayed, when one of the main characters, Ralph, faces all types of adversity and how those adversities shape his...show more content...
At the end of the meeting he states, "All this I meant to say. Now I've said it. You voted me for chief. Now you do what I say" (Golding 47). It is evident that Ralph is feeling very doubtful from the way he states the quote. "Now you do what I say" is something that is said by someone who feels the need to affirm their position as chief. Although Ralph still temporarily has things clouted with the boys, the adversity that he is facing is starting to steadily affect his character as the reader can see him become more doubtful of himself. Likewise, social conflicts become very clear in the reader's eyes at this stage of the novel, when Jack hosts a meeting because he is not pleased with Ralph's inefficient leadership. Jack's bloodthirsty mind is what causes Ralph to enter a stage of denial. Jack might possess a savage personality; however, he has a very clever mind. This fact is demonstrated when he decides to use the beast as a way to overpower Ralph. At first, he hosts a meeting prattling about Ralph's inferior leadership ability and how he prioritizes getting rescued over hunting for meat and killing the beast. Jack then proceeds to talk about Ralph as an individual stating that "He's a coward himself." (Golding 77). The reader can glean from Jack's vocabulary that he is sick with Ralph's ineffective leadership when he uses the word "coward" to enhance his point on the matter. After Jack announces to the group of boys how Ralph stayed Get more content
"Write a brief essay explaining how you have succeeded in the face of adversity in your life."
The 2014–2015 school year at Gladbrook–Reinbeck was a difficult and turbulent year for everyone involved, because of the G–R school's financial problems. Funds had been stretched to the breaking point due to declining enrollment. The school board, which my dad was on at the time, voted to close the school building in Gladbrook to save funds. As a result, I had work to have a qualityeducation and a good year, despite the drama between kids at school, the constant questions and gossip from adults, and additional stress at home. The social changes I dealt at school with were the most difficult. I saw, and was involved in countless conversations about the school's situation. Talking in the halls turned to heated arguments, and sometimes these escalated to the point where bystanders taking sides, until a teacher came along to break it up. Discussions in class invariably turned to the topic of the...show more content...
The most obvious changes were that my dad was home even less than before. He had already been working 50+ hour weeks, and on multiple church organizations with meetings when he joined the board. Even when my dad was home, he kept busy. It seemed as though he was constantly receiving mail and email, everything from the next meeting's minutes to lengthy email rants to "thank–you" notes. Between all the disputation regarding the initial decision, and the multiple lawsuits against the school and school board filed by Gladbrook residents in the following weeks, there was no little amount of stress added to my dad's life by this. My dad's stress affected my stress levels, and added to the fear that the entire population of Gladbrook was going to hate him after all of this. Between this and the rest of the stress I had as a high school junior, it was enough to drive me a more than a little

Essay On Adversity
The Roman poet Horace states that "Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant." By this, he explains the role these hardships play in shaping and developing a person's character. I agree that adversity not only elicits talents, but also brings out the hidden aptitudes within a person that which they were unaware of before. Through learning experiences and observations, I have witnessed the significant outcomes that come from the result of adversities. Initially, when I think of someone who handled a great deal of difficulty, yet overcame them and succeeded, I pictureAbraham Lincoln. Abe had many struggles that not many people know of. When he was young, Lincoln moved several times...show more content...
There are many ways people can experience distress either psychologically or emotionally. A close friend of mine was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder called acrophobia at a very young age. Acrophobia is an intense fear of heights. She experienced multiple panic attacks while being above a certain distance, making her extremely uncomfortable and unbalanced. This caused her to be unable to go on everyday things such as playgrounds, building over two stories, and airplanes. After she was twelve, she finally decided to face her fear and overcome her acrophobia. She learned how to breathe during panic attacks in order to calm down and to not think about the negative outcomes that were "what if's" in her mind. Once she managed to cope and get around her anxiety, she was able to participate in gymnastics on high beams and bars. Now, she competes at a collegiate level and is highly successful. From the adversity my friend encountered, she now is aware and cognizant of her amazing talent as a gymnast, and now she also can experience the world around her through a different point of view. Overall, adversity is not always something to be avoided. Once someone is affected by adversity in their life, they must keep going and work through it opposed to allowing it to block them permanently. While enduring a difficult time, people are most vulnerable and receptive, making it imperative to properly handle these misfortunes that shape

Horace Adversity Essay
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
The adversity in my life began with the loss of things which had significant meaning in my life. There is an array of things to be said here, but the most important of them is my self security. As I was growing up, because my parents were divorced, I never had a stable environment that I knew wouldn't change until I was about ten, and even that changed. When I had reached the age of ten, I stopped being moved around as much until I was about fifteen. During this time I made many mistakes and as I did,
