St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta was the founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity. She dedicated herself to helping the less fortunate of Calcutta, India. Mother Teresa didn't turn her back on God, nor did she turn her back on the poor and sick people of Calcutta, India. To help the people who were sick she studied with the Medical Missionary Sisters. Wearing a white sari with a blue edge and a cross sign hanging on her left shoulder Sister Teresa established a school forhomeless children and a place that gave first aid to the sick and wounded. Soon children started calling her, "Ma," an Indian word for mother and then she became known as Mother Teresa. She started expanding her work around the world and got more donations as she told people about her work and made them realize how people were dying of hunger and cold around the world. Like all others Mother Teresa received her share of criticism on abortion but she said nothing and smiled. Mother Teresa was not in favor of abortion and believed that a child is a God's best gift to a family but many people protested her about this idea. Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910 and died on September 5, 1997 at the age of 87. She was a sister in a Roman Catholic Church located in India. With that said, she was very tight–knit with the values she's accustomed throughout all her years of Catholicism. She began helping "the poorest of the poor" because that's where she believed God was pointing her. She was able to help kids become literate, families become healthy and inspired others to do the same. Though she was constantly tired, she believes that it was prayer that kept her going. She likes to describe this as "God 's pencil–a tiny bit of pencil with which he writes what he likes." Therefore, with all the services and good she's given to the world, she was awarded The Nobel Peace Prize. Her speech has influenced others and has shown what great everyone can bring to the world. On December 11, 1979, she was awarded The Nobel Peace Prize and her acceptance speech was one to be recognized. Being as religious as she is, she started off her speech thanking God for the prize she's received. She talks about how 500 years ago, they had the same difficulties that we do now. The article "The Telegraph" states that Mother Teresa's Missionary of Charities had the effect today which is that 500,000 families are being fed per year. They also state that more than 27,000 people, who would have most likely died on the streets of Calcutta, have ended their lives in one of her hospices. Mother Teresa continued her uses of pathos in her speech by recalling a past experience she had with a poor woman. She reflected on the poor people as great people which allowed the audience to see them as something other than a stereotype. She remembered how the poor woman thanked her and many others about the importance of abstaining and having self–control in regards to having children. Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu was born August 26, 1910 in Skopje, in Macedonia. Her childhood was comfortable and prosperous due to her father's success. Her father encouraged his children to be generous and compassionate to those less fortunate. Her mother was very religious and she took the children to morning mass. Agnes often helped her mother deliver parcels of food and money to the poor and prayed with the whole family every evening. Mother Teresa took the lady to the hospital, but they refused to admit her. She then would not leave the hospital until they accepted the lady, and stayed by her side until she died. Community service and Nursing both connects to her mission in which they both strive to deliver care, support, service to everyone holistically. This also connects to the mission of NDMU and the service and devotion in being a Notre Dame Woman. It basically describes the aspects of a Notre Dame Woman and how they engage in service to others and build inclusive communities. She is a woman of courage and truly fits this description because she devoted her life to helping to make a positive change in the world. Her devotion has saved lives of others and given the less fortunate something they will be forever grateful for and that is hope. I will be discussing the broader aspects of my personal experiences and how examples of mother Teresa can inform us about community service and nursing Mother Teresa was born– with the name Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu – on August 26, 1910

Mother Teresa was a kind, little lady who live selflessly to spread Jesus' love and kindness to the poor and needy. At age 12, she felt a strong calling to lead a religious life. She decided that she would become a nun and a missionary(Mother Teresa Biography). At age 18, she joined the Sisters of Loretto in Ireland, where she picked the name Teresa after Saint ThГ©rГЁse of Lisieux (Mother Teresa of Calcutta). She sailed to India just six weeks later to become a teacher(Blessed Mother Teresa). For 17 years she taught at the school before she experienced her "call within a call". While riding a train to a retreat, Christ spoke to her. According to Mother Teresa biography, Christ said, "I want Indian Nuns, Missionaries of Charity, who would be my fire of love amongst the poor, the sick, the dying and the little children.
