Selected works

La zorra y el sapo (Füchsin und Kröte, 2014)

This visual story by Sol Díaz sweats with humor and eroticism. It is a dialogue for young ladies: wet, intimate and hot. Two characters that are talked about so much here share their tastes, fantasies and fears. This is not a fable and it is not for children either. La Zorra y el Sapo will get more than a smile out of you.

¿Cómo ser una mujer elegante? (How to be an elegant woman?, 2014)

A questioning of the feminine and the conventional that seeks to explore the most recondite places of women’s nature.

What does it mean to be an elegant woman? A distinguished woman, endowed with grace, cultured, discreet and stylish? In these vignettes full of humour, sarcasm and irony, Sol Díaz displays a catalogue of answers to these questions that are far from those established by social conventions.

Because we have all been taught to be elegant, always smiling, decent, kind and discreet. We wear pearl necklaces, long dresses, petticoats, girdles and heels... but few know that within that elegance hides a wild, intuitive, free woman willing to ride her she-wolf without fear for life.

La hoja naranja (The orange leaf, 2012)

Fedora is a girl who feels at ease with her life until her surroundings –family, friends, school– start to change. Is everything that others do what she wants for herself?

Starting from that question, a delusional and fantastic journey begins that will take her along the most incredible paths of her consciousness and reality. It is the beginning of an adventure learning that, with the guidance of endearing and amazing characters, will end up helping her discover her own identity and free herself from the social ties that hide the real Fedora.

The Transentients (2021)

TRANSENTIENTS

In this bewitching novel, hailed by Carlos Fuentes as one of the most important Latin American Fictions of the new century, a man’s best-laid plans to restart his life collides with a force that defies rational understanding. With a propulsive plot and metaphysical mystery at its core, The Transentients explores the razor-thin demarcation between illusion and reality. This captivating story takes the form of a mystery: the aim to unravel the enigma of others is equivalent to a search for himself. This remarkable and disturbing novel, which tenses the ability of the word to sustain the truth of the story and takes the adventure of any narrative text to apply to the others to a limit, confirms the prominent place that the author occupies in the current panorama of Latin American fiction.

Las humanidades y la crisis climática (Last Exit: The Humanities and the Climate Crisis, 2021)

Last Exit addresses the climate crisis and exponential technologies from the perspective of the humanities. It synthesizes some of the dilemmas inherent to this time of waiting or apparent interregnum in which we live today, when a political and social order has reached its expiration date and the one destined to replace it has not yet manifested itself. Missana clearly exposes the state of the question around the processes of emergence, which articulate our relationship with the future; the optimistic and dystopian visions of what awaits us, the crisis of the humanities and their defense, articulated in six C’s: compassion, citizenship, critical thinking, creativity, complexity and human condition.

Entremuros (2019)

In a vast Latin American city, ravaged by incessant clan warfare, ravaged by huge mining operations and ruled by weak and inscrutable authorities, the body of a young woman is found in a vacant lot with a bullet in her head. The police, inefficient and corrupt, begin an investigation that seems to lead nowhere. With elements of crime novel and political allegory, Entremuros builds with a vigorous and subjugating prose a world in ruins, weaving together shards of the present: inequality, drug trafficking, environmental degradation and the erosion of democratic institutions. But among the ruins there is also room for altruism, hope and, perhaps, redemption.

Alquimia Ediciones

Alquimia is an autonomous publishing house that was officially born in 2011. We publish books on narrative, poetry, essay, chronicle, life diary and visual arts. Our catalogue is characterized by publishing experimental works that problematize literary genres, seeking careful editing and adding graphic details to the books. We operate as an abode for works that invite rereading, bringing together renowned and unpublished authors of different nationalities and eras. All we care about is the quality of the work. The symbolism of our name characterizes us. We believe that the art of editing demands a commitment to the materials that are in motion: the word, the culture, the image and the multiple possibilities that language gives.

We make the books we like to read.

Metales Pesados

For 16 years, Metales Pesados has been building a supporting place for those texts that are necessary to fill the gaps of academic production. Specialized in essays, this emblematic publishing house intersects several areas of knowledge in its catalogue. Always with critical thoroughness and a language that tends to the bridge between the academic world and society. A consolidated publisher, reinforced by the resulting alloy from the joint labor of the firm and bookstores, it positions Chilean and Latin American works in the medium. The thorough critical review of its content; an aesthetic element that is carefully implicit: those are the elements that shape the character of Metales Pesados, the publishing house that supports the tradition of thought coming from this “other place”.
