Nuestra institución se distingue por su profesionalismo y es por esto que hemos alcanzado grandes éxitos a través de nuestros 104 años de historia. Día-a-día reenfocamos nuestra agenda para enfrentar los retos imprevistos, de modo que podamos lograr el cometido y alcanzar la meta trazada.

Las lecciones aprendidas del pasado nos han flexibilizado de tal forma que han hecho de nosotros una organización sin comparación entre todas las entidades gubernamentales y privadas de nuestro país. Ante las crisis hemos demostrado que la unión estratégica y operacional de los recursos es lo que brinda buenos resultados. Aprendemos de los retos y crecemos durante las crisis.

En este año 2023 estamos ante el reto de mantenernos como la institución más relevante de nuestra Isla, manejando los desafíos que representan reclutamiento y retención, la transformación de unidades y los requerimientos de servicio de nuestra gente, sin dejar a un lado nuestra responsabilidad federal. In this new edition of Presente, we highlight four Citizen-Soldiers with different experiences and goals, but motivated to give their best by answering the call to say always ready to serve the Island, its people, and the Nation.

En esta nueva edición de Presente destacamos a cuatro Ciudadanos-Soldados con diferentes experiencias y metas, pero con una clara motivación de ofrecer lo mejor de ellos, respondiendo al llamado de decir siempre presente para servir a la Isla, a su gente y a la Nación.

CAPT. DAVID SANTIAGO

With eight years of service in the Puerto Rico National Guard, Capt. David Santiago is the commander of the 181st Medical Support Company. His knowledge of science and environmental issues was a key factor when selecting his speciality within the National Guard.

“I always wanted to support and contribute to the well-being of the people of Puerto Rico and being part of the National Guard helped me fulfill that aspiration. My focus has always been to apply my knowledge and experience in the environmental area to develop sustainable water and electricity projects at our facilities, and develop new constructions”.

The Pentagon Office of Energy in Washington D.C. selected Santiago, who has a Ph.D. in Environmental Biology, to oversee implementing and standardizing its environmental operations policies and processes at select military bases.

Con ocho años de servicio en la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico, el Capt. David Santiago es el comandante de la Compañía 181 de Apoyo Médico. Su conocimiento científico en el tema ambiental fue un factor determinante al seleccionar su especialidad dentro de la Guardia Nacional.

“Siempre quise apoyar y contribuir al bienestar del pueblo de Puerto Rico y formar parte de la Guardia Nacional me ayudó a cumplir esa aspiración. Mi enfoque siempre estuvo en aplicar mis conocimientos y experiencia en el área ambiental para desarrollar proyectos sustentables de agua y electricidad en nuestras instalaciones, y desarrollar nuevas construcciones”.

La Oficina de Energía del Pentágono en Washington, D.C. seleccionó a Santiago, quien tiene un doctorado en Biología Ambiental, para supervisar la implantación y estandarización de sus políticas y procesos de operaciones ambientales en bases militares seleccionadas.

2LT. AMY GONZALEZ

With the support of her family, 2nd Lt. Amy González enlisted in the Puerto Rico National Guard at the age of 17, looking for something different. 2nd Lt. González is one of the first two wo-men within the PRNG to attend and pass the Infantry transition course.

“My achievements, both in my military career and at a personal level, are largely thanks to the Puerto Rico National Guard. It has been a great honor for me to complete transitional Infantry training, become an officer, and pass Engineering Officer School. I look forward to continue having the opportunity to serve my community, the Island, and the Nation with pride while developing as a leader.”

González recognizes the value of the support that her family has given during her 11-year military career, emphasizing that “challenges change, but the family does not.”

Since her beginnings in the Puerto Rico National Guard, 2nd Lt. González has obtained se-veral achievements, including winning the gold medal during the German Armed Forces Badge competition in March 2016. At that time, and with the rank of specialist, González became the first woman to obtain the highest award in this competition, in which 15 women from the Army Reserve and the PRNG participated.

Con el apoyo de su familia la 2do Tte. Amy González alistó a los 17 años a la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico buscando algo diferente. La 2do Tte. González es una de las primeras dos mujeres dentro de la GNPR en asistir y aprobar el curso de transición de Infantería.

“Mis logros, tanto en mi carrera militar como a nivel personal, son gracias en gran medida a la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico. Para mí ha sido un gran honor completar el entrenamiento de transición de Infantería, convertirme en oficial y aprobar la Escuela de Ingeniería para Oficiales. Busco seguir teniendo la oportunidad de servir a mi comunidad, a la Isla y a la Nación con orgullo mientras me desarrollo como líder”.

González, reconoce el valor del apoyo que su familia le ha brindado durante sus 11 años de carrera militar, enfatizando que “los retos cambian, pero la familia no”.

Desde sus inicios en la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico, la 2do Tte. González ha obtenido varios logros, incluyendo ganar la medalla de oro durante la competencia de la Insignia de las Fuerzas Armadas Alemanas en marzo de 2016. Para aquel entonces, y con el rango de especialista, González se convirtió en la primera mujer en obtener el premio más alto de esta competencia en la que participaron 15 féminas de la Reserva del Ejército y la GNPR.

SGT. JOSHUA OCHART

Sgt. Joshua Ochart is a water purification specialist with the 714th Water Purification Company and is a graduate of the Youth ChalleNGe program. Ochart is also part of the GNPR Funeral Honor Detachment.

"Through ChalleNGe, I developed my interest in military discipline and a sense of belonging that has transferred to my service in the PRNG. I want to be that person who supports, assists, and mentors new soldiers like those who supported and mentored me."

Sgt. Ochart, is currently studying nursing and ensures that his family is the main motivator for him to contribute to the well-being of others.

“My family has been the engine of my career. They are the reason I keep moving toward new challenges and opportunities.”

Ochart participated in the most recent Best Warrior Competition.

“The competition took me out of my comfort zone as a soldier and person. It was physically and mentally demanding and tested all my abilities. I was proud to have participated and represented the PRNG.”

El Sgto. Joshua Ochart es especialista de purificación de agua en la Compañía 714 de Purificación de Agua y es egresado del programa Youth ChalleNGe. Ochart, forma parte también del Destacamento de Honor Fune-rario de la GNPR.

“A través de ChalleNGe, desarrollé mi interés por la disci-plina militar, así como también un sentido de pertenencia que se ha transferido a mi servicio en la GNPR. Quiero ser esa persona que apoya, asiste y asesora a los nuevos soldados como aquellos que me apoyaron y asesoraron”.

El Sgto. Ochart, cursa actualmente la carrera de enfermería, y asegura que su familia es su principal motivador para contribuir al bienestar de los demás.

“Mi familia ha sido el motor de mi carrera. Ellos son la razón por la que sigo avanzando hacia nuevos retos y oportunidades”.

Ochart, participó en la más reciente edición del Best Warrior Competition.

“ La competencia me sacó de mi zona de comodidad, como soldado y como persona. Fue física y mentalmente exigente y puso a prueba todas mis capacidades. Fue un orgullo haber participado y representado a la GNPR.”

Staff Sgt. Emmanuel Rodríguez is part of the 480th Military Police Co. Thanks to the PRNG, Rodríguez obtained his academic degree while serving the Island and the Nation.

Puerto Rico National Guard Breaks Ground on Construction Projects at Camp Santiago in Salinas

The Puerto Rico National Guard has begun engineering and reconstruction projects at Camp Santiago in Salinas, worth $299.7 million in federal funds destined for military construction. These projects will last approximately five years and are expected to generate 400 direct and 200 indirect jobs.

“These reconstruction works will be of great benefit not only to the military community but also to the municipalities of Salinas and Coamo, and surrounding communities,” said Brig. Gen. Miguel A. Méndez, the adjutant general of Puerto Rico. The infrastructure improvement will result in better training for our Guard. Also, Camp Santiago will once again be an option for federal and state agencies, and military personnel who will find everything they need for their training here,” Méndez said.

Among the various engineering projects is the demolition of 40 inoperative structures, the revitalization of the electrical system, and the water use and management system, as well as the construction and expansion of parking areas. Twenty-nine new buildings for housing and administrative support will also be built, as well as two dining rooms with capacity for 200 people each and guaranteed to resist winds of up to 200 mph.

Camp Santiago in Salinas has been key in the development and maintenance of the Puerto Rico National Guard since 1940. It currently consists of over 12,789 acres of land and close to 300 buildings and has all the necessary resources to carry out any type of military or civilian training.

La Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico (GNPR) inició los proyectos de ingeniería y reconstrucción del Campamento Santiago en Salinas a un costo de $299.7 millones en fondos federales designados para construcción militar. Estos proyectos tendrán una duración aproximada de cinco años y se espera que generen 400 empleos directos y 200 indirectos.

“Estos trabajos de reconstrucción redundarán en un gran beneficio no solo para la comunidad militar sino para los municipios de Salinas, Coamo y las comunidades aledañas a Campamento Santiago”, dijo el ayudante general de Puerto Rico, General de Brigada Miguel A. Méndez. “El mejoramiento de la infraestructura redundará en un mejor adiestramiento para nuestra Guardia. De igual manera, Campamento Santiago volverá a ser una opción para las agencias federales y estatales, y personal militar que encontrarán aquí todo lo necesario para sus entrenamientos”.

Entre los diversos proyectos de ingeniería se encuentran la demolición de 40 estructuras inoperantes, la revitalización del sistema eléctrico y del sistema de uso y manejo de aguas, así como la construcción y ampliación de las áreas de estacionamiento. También, se construirán 29 nuevas edificaciones para vivienda y apoyo administrativo, así como dos comedores con capacidad para 200 personas cada uno y garantizados a resistir vientos de hasta 200 mph.

El Campamento Santiago en Salinas ha sido una pieza clave en el desarrollo y mantenimiento de la GNPR desde 1940. En la actualidad consta de sobre 12,789 acres de terreno y cerca de 300 edificios, al igual que de todos los recursos necesarios para llevar a cabo cualquier tipo de entrenamiento militar o civil.

Honoring Veterans

Las mujeres militares de la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico fueron seleccionadas para representar a las mujeres veteranas en una ceremonia para conmemorar el Día de la Mujer Veterana, el 9 de marzo de 2023, en Vega Alta. Durante la ceremonia, estas mujeres fueron reconocidas y celebradas por su servicio, y las llamamos con orgullo veteranas.

Female servicemembers from the Puerto Rico National Guard were selected to represent veteran female Soldiers and Airmen in a ceremony to commemorate Veteran Women’s Day, Mar. 9, 2023, in Vega Alta. During the ceremony, the women were recognized and celebrated for their service, and we proudly call them veterans.

The Puerto Rico National Guard joined governor Pedro Pierluisi, the National Cemetery, and the Puerto Rico Veterans Advocate in honoring the bravery, sacrifices, and legacy of the 65th Infantry Regiment of the US Army. The PRNG is proud of its heroes, known around the world as The Borinqueneers.

La Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico se unió al gobernador Pedro Pierluisi, al Cementerio Nacional y a la Oficina del Procurador del Veterano para honrar la valentía, los sacrificios y el legado del Regimiento 65 de Infantería del Ejército de los EE. UU. La GNPR siente orgullo de sus héroes, conocidos en todo el mundo como Los Borinqueneers.

The American Legion Department of Puerto Rico recognized several women veterans at the Fortunato Vizarrondo Amphitheater in Carolina, Mar. 31, 2023. At this ceremony, women from the Puerto Rico National Guard and retired women veterans were recognized for their efforts and service.

El Departamento de la Legión Americana de Puerto Rico reconoció a varias mujeres veteranas en el Anfiteatro Fortunato Vizarrondo en Carolina, el 31 de marzo de 2023. En esta ceremonia, mujeres de la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico y mujeres vetranas jubiladas fueron reconocidas por sus esfuerzos y servicios.

The Puerto Rico National Guard participated in a tribute to veterans of the Vietnam War, held at the Capitol by the Puerto Rico Senate on March 26. The PRNG Joint Honor Guard was in charge of presenting the Colors and interpreting “Taps”. Among the guests were the State Command Sergeant Major, Command Sgt. Maj. Luis Cora and State Chief Warrant Officer 5, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Manuel Couverthie. The adjutant general of Puerto Rico, Brig. Gen. Miguel Méndez, was among the speakers.

La Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico participó en un homenaje a los veteranos de la Guerra de Vietnam celebrado en el Capitolio por el Senado de Puerto Rico, el pasado 26 de marzo. La Guardia de Honor conjunta estuvo a cargo de la presentación de los Colores e interpretación del Toque de Queda. Entre los invitados se encontraban el Sargento Mayor de Comando de Estado, Sag. May. de Comando Luis Cora y el Jefe de Oficiales Técnicos del Estado, Oficial Técnico 5 Manuel Couverthie. El ayudante general de Puerto Rico, General de Brigada Miguel Méndez fue, uno de los oradores.

New Fire Station at Camp Santiago

The Puerto Rico National Guard has completed the first phase of its groundbreaking project, a cutting-edge fire station, storage, and apparatus working bay at the Camp Santiago Joint Training Center in Salinas. These facilities greatly expand Camp Santiago's capacity to respond to emergencies, ensuring the safety of those training there and aiding the local community if called upon.

La Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico concluyó la primera fase de su más reciente proyecto con la inauguración de una estación de bomberos innovadora, área de almacenamiento y zona de trabajo de aparatos en el Centro de Entrenamiento Conjunto Camp Santiago en Salinas. Estas instalaciones amplían enormemente la capacidad de Camp Santiago para responder a emergencias, garantizando la seguridad de quienes se entrenan allí y ayudando la comunidad local si se le solicita.

The 777th SMC on the Island

Members of the 777th Service Maintenance Company, Tennessee Army National Guard took the opportunity to hone their skills in Puerto Rico by conducting their Annual Training at Camp Santiago Join Training Center in Salinas. The unit comprises 45 members with various support specialties.

“Last year and due to the deployment of our 783rd Maintenance Company to the Middle East, we requested support from several states to provide us assistance in those areas where we did not have enough personnel, ” said Lt. Col. Juan Rodríguez, Surface Maintenance Division Chief, PRARNG.

“The members of the 777th SMC are contributing nearly 1,950 man-hours of direct labor into the readiness of the Puerto Rico National Guard, filling up the void caused by the deployment of the 783rd MC. In addition, their performance and motivation have been outstanding.”

According to many of the Soldiers, the experience of performing their MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) in a different environment away from home has been unique because they have the opportunity to work with systems and equipment not available in their state.

“This has been great for many because it gives not only an opportunity to perform their MOS on a variety of equipment not used back home but also allows then to get to know a different and diverse culture like Puerto Rico. I’m sure this experience will allow them to learn and grow at their level and motivate them to continue serving,” said Capt. Seth Frost, 777th SMC Commander.

Even though the main intent is to support the PRARNG, coming to Puerto Rico also serves as a retention tool for the unit, as their personnel realizes there are opportunities to train elsewhere and to enrich their military experience.

Los miembros de la Compañía de Servicio de Mantenimiento 777 de la Guardia Nacional de Tennessee, aprovecharon la oportunidad para perfeccionar sus habilidades en Puerto Rico al realizar su adiestramiento anual en Campamento Santiago en Salinas. Dicha unidad está compesta por 45 miembros con diversas especialidades de apoyo.

“Durante el año pasado y debido al despliegue de nuestra Compañía de Mantenimiento 783 a Medio Oriente, solicitamos el apoyo de varios estados para que nos brindaran asistencia en aquellas áreas donde no contábamos con el personal suficiente para trabajar”, dijo el Tte. Cnel. Juan Rodríguez, Jefe de la División de Mantenimiento de Equipo de la GNPR. “Los miembros de la SSM 777 están aportando casi 1,950 horas de mano de obra directa a la preparación de la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico, llenando el vacío causado por el despliegue de la 783. Además, su desempeño y motivación han sido sobresalientes”.

Según muchos de los Soldados, la experiencia de realizar su Especialidad Ocupacional Militar (MOS por sus siglas en ingles) en un ambiente diferente fuera del hogar ha sido única porque tienen la oportunidad de trabajar con sistemas y equipos que no están disponibles en su estado.

“Esto ha sido excelente para muchos porque no solo brinda la oportunidad de realizar su MOS en una variedad de equipos que no se usan en casa, sino también les permite conocer una cultura diferente y diversa como en Puerto Rico. Estoy seguro de que esta experiencia les permitirá aprender y crecer en su nivel y los motivará a continuar sirviendo”, dijo el Capitán Seth Frost, Comandante de la Compañía 777.

Aunque la intención principal es apoyar a la GNPR, venir a Puerto Rico también sirve como una herramienta de retención para la unidad, ya que su personal se da cuenta de que hay oportunidades para entrenar en otros lugares y enriquecer su experiencia militar.

PRYCA: Class 23-01 Graduation Ceremony

After 22 weeks of intense studies, 227 cadets of Class 23-01 of the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy received their high-school diploma in March, during commencement ceremonies held at the Dolores “Toyita” Martínez Coliseum in Juana Díaz.

“Every class we graduate represents a great achievement for Puerto Rico. Each one of these graduates accepted the challenge and has successfully completed not only their academic studies, but all other program components. We are extremely proud of them,” said Brig. Gen. Miguel A. Méndez, adjutant general of Puerto Rico.

Class 23-01 had experiences that will help them grow as productive individuals in our society by completing the requirements to receive not only a high school diploma, but also certificates in a variety of technical courses. Of the 227 young people who graduated, 167 are male and 60 are female, representing 65 Puerto Rico municipalities. This class completed 9,771 hours of community service.

As part of the Responsible Citizenship component, Class 23-01 presented their concerns, ideas, and alternatives to a series of existing issues on the Island, which were accepted for further examination by the Legislative Assembly. Following this event, all students were sworn-in as Young Legislators, each one receiving a certificate from the Office of Legislative Services.

Tras 22 semanas de intensos estudios y capacitación académica, 227 cadetes de la Clase 23-01 de la Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy recibieron en marzo su diploma de 4to año, durante los actos de graduación llevados a cabo en el Coliseo Dolores “Toyita” Martínez de Juana Díaz.

“Cada clase que graduamos es un gran logro para Puerto Rico. Cada uno de estos jóvenes aceptó el reto y tiene la distinción de haber completado exitosamente, no solo sus estudios académicos, sino todos los demás componentes curriculares del programa. Estamos sumamente orgullosos de ellos”, dijo el ayudante general de Puerto Rico, General de Brigada Miguel A. Méndez.

Los jóvenes de la Clase 23-01 vivieron experiencias que les ayudarán a crecer como individuos productivos de nuestra sociedad al completar los requisitos para recibir no solo el diploma de Escuela Superior, sino también certificados en una variedad de cursos técnicos. De los 227 jóvenes que hoy se graduaron, 167 son varones y 60 féminas, representando a 65 municipios de Puerto Rico. Esta clase completó 9,771 horas de servicio comunitario.

Como parte del componente de Ciudadanía Responsable, la Clase 23-01 presentó sus inquietudes, ideas y alternativas a una serie de situaciones existentes en la Isla, las cuales fueron acogidas para estudio por la Asamblea Legislativa. Tras esto, la clase fue juramentada como Jóvenes Legisladores, recibiendo cada uno un certificado de parte de la Oficina de Servicios Legislativos.

Collaboration Agreement

The Puerto Rico National Guard has entered a historic collaboration agreement with Ana G. Méndez University (UAGM by its Spanish accronym). The collaboration agreement seeks to strengthen academic, operational, and cultural ties through efforts to develop activities in areas of mutual interest.

“The common interest of our institutions is to offer tools for the development of our youth,” said the adjutant general of Puerto Rico, Brig. Gen. Miguel Méndez. “Furthermore, we are looking to benefit PRNG Soldiers and Airmen, and their dependents, in a framework of mutual cooperation with a university of great prestige and history on our Island, such as Ana G. Méndez University.”

The agreement also seeks to develop projects in the academic, sports, cultural, and marketing areas, as well as the exchange of professionals and students that facilitate the expansion of experiences that benefit both parties. Likewise, it seeks bilateral participation in symposiums, conferences, seminars, and workshops of common interest.

“We live in a society that is in constant change and we seek to combine efforts to facilitate the overall learning process in tune with modern trends and realities. This agreement is a facilitator for the educational and social benefit of the men and women who serve at the PRNG, and who also serve by example through their careers and the community and social mission we have as an organization,” Méndez added. “I am grateful for the support Ana G. Méndez University gives us and what they are helping us accomplish. I know this agreement will be of great benefit to everyone.”

The National Guard and UAGM also intend to develop educational and leadership projects, and exchange publications and educational material.

La Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico y la Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM) han establecido un histórico acuerdo de colaboración para fortalecer los lazos académicos, operativos y culturales a través de esfuerzos para desarrollar actividades en áreas de interés mutuo.

“El interés común de nuestras instituciones es ofrecer herramientas para el desarrollo de nuestra juventud”, dijo el ayudante general de Puerto Rico, General de Brigada Miguel Méndez. “Buscamos, además, beneficiar a los Soldados y Aviadores de la GNPR, y a sus dependientes, en un marco de cooperación mutua con una institución universitaria de gran prestigio e historia en nuestro país como lo es la Universidad Ana G. Méndez”.

El acuerdo también busca desarrollar proyectos en las áreas académica, deportiva, cultural y de mercadeo, así como el intercambio de profesionales y estudiantes que faciliten la ampliación de experiencias que beneficien a ambas partes. Asimismo, busca la participación bilateral en simposios, congresos, seminarios y talleres de interés común.

“Vivimos en una sociedad en constante cambio y buscamos combinar esfuerzos para facilitar el proceso de aprendizaje general atemperado a las tendencias y realidades modernas. Este acuerdo es un facilitador para el beneficio educativo y social de los hombres y mujeres que sirven en la GNPR, y que también sirven de ejemplo a través de sus profesiones y de la misión comunitaria y social que tenemos como organización”, añadió Méndez. “Agradezco el apoyo que nos brinda la Universidad Ana G. Méndez y lo que nos están ayudando a lograr. Sé que este acuerdo será de gran beneficio para todos”.

La Guardia Nacional y la UAGM también tienen la intención de desarrollar proyectos educativos y de liderazgo e intercambiar publicaciones y material educativo.

The Puerto Rico National Guard , through its Sexual Harassment/Assault Prevention and Response Program (SHARP), held the SHARP Victim Advocates Recognition Day at Fort Buchanan, April 12, 2023. This ceremony recognized the hard work and dedication of our victim advocates. SHARP is an Army initiative aimed at preventing and responding to incidents of sexual harassment and assault within the military. Sexual harassment and assault have no place in any workplace, including the military. The SHARP program ensures dignity and respect for all members.

La Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico, a través de su Programa de Prevención y Respuesta al Acoso/ Agresión Sexual (SHARP por sus siglas en inglés ), celebró el Día de Reconocimiento de los Defensores de Víctimas en el Fuerte Buchanan, el 12 de abril de 2023. Esta ceremonia reconoció el arduo trabajo y la dedicación de nuestros defensores de víctimas. SHARP es una iniciativa del Ejército destinada a prevenir y responder a incidentes de acoso y agresión sexual dentro de las fuerzas armadas. El acoso y la agresión sexual no tienen cabida en ningún lugar de trabajo, incluido el Ejército. El programa SHARP garantiza la dignidad y el respeto de todos los miembros.

PRNG Supports Forward Tiger Exercise

Muñiz Air Base in Carolina recently supported the 23rd Air Expeditionary Wing and Air Forces Southern Command’s (AFSOUTH) exercise Forward Tiger, held jointly with the air forces of Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Canada.

“These exercises, and our involvement in them, are part of the readiness and revalidation of participating Air Force units. We never know when a natural disaster or humanitarian crisis will occur, but this type of exercise furthers our ability to be prepared, both for defense and humanitarian assistance in the Caribbean basin,” said Brig. Gen. Miguel Méndez, adjutant general of Puerto Rico.

Forward Tiger served to validate the capabilities of various participating commands through their own scenarios in the Caribbean area and assisted in improving the interoperational capability of the participating air forces, under North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) standards.

Brig. Gen. Humberto Pabón, assistant adjutant general Air, added that “through these exercises we see the great contribution that, because of its strategic position, Puerto Rico makes not only to regional and national defense but also in its support during emergency situations.”

Over 300 U.S. Air Force members participated in Forward Tiger, contributing approximately $2.8 million to the Island’s economy.

La Base Muñiz de la Guardia Nacional Aérea en Carolina recientemente apoyó el Ala Expedicionaria 23 y el Comando Aéreo Sur de los Estados Unidos (AFSOUTH por sus siglas en inglés) durante el ejercicio Forward Tiger, llevado a cabo junto a las fuerzas aéreas de República Dominicana, Jamaica y Canadá.

“Estos ejercicios, y nuestra participación, son parte del aprestamiento y revalidación de las unidades de las fuerzas aéreas participantes. Nunca podemos saber cuándo ocurrirá una catástrofe natural o una crisis humanitaria, pero este tipo de ejercicio promueve la capacidad de estar preparados, tanto para la defensa como para la asistencia humanitaria, en la cuenca del Caribe”, dijo el ayudante general de Puerto Rico, General de Brigada Miguel Méndez.

Forward Tiger sirvió para validar las capacidades de los diversos comandos participantes a través de escenarios propios de la zona caribeña y ayudó en el mejoramiento de la capacidad interoperacional de las fuerzas aéreas participantes, bajo los estándares de la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico del Norte (OTAN).

El General de Brigada Humberto Pabón, ayudante general auxiliar del componente Aéreo de la GNPR, añadió que “a través de estos ejercicios vemos la gran contribución que, por su posición estratégica, hace Puerto Rico no solo a la defensa regional y nacional sino también en su apoyo durante situaciones de emergencia”.

Sobre 300 miembros de la Fuerza Aérea de los EE. UU. participaron desde Puerto Rico en Forward Tiger, haciendo una contribución de aproximadamente $2.8 millones a la economía de la Isla.

125th Military Police Batallion Change of Responsibility & Command

The Puerto Rico Army National Guard, 125th Military Police Batallion celebrated its Change of Command and Change of Responsibilities ceremonies at Camp Santiago Joint Training Center in Salinas. “We want employers to become our promoters and advocates, and the best way to achieve that is by showing them what we do, how we train, and what our mission and philosophy of selflessly serving our country is,” Méndez said.

Boss Lift offers employers from the public and private sectors the opportunity to learn about the additional skills their employees acquire during the PRNG training and qualification processes, and how these skills become a positive asset to the companies and organizations for which they work in their civilian time.

More than 30 employers from Puerto Rico arrived at Camp Santiago in Salinas to participate in the Boss Lift 2023 event of the Puerto Rico National Guard (PRNG) and learn first-hand about their employees' work as Soldiers and Airmen when they are on orders or active duty.

“We are very pleased because after several years without holding this event, we invited the employers of our Soldiers and Airmen to Camp Santiago. For us, it is extremely important that they learn about the work of their employees within the Puerto Rico National Guard; that they understand the mission of what a Citizen-Soldier is and that they support them at all times,” said the adjutant general of Puerto Rico, Brigadier General Miguel A. Méndez.

According to Méndez, the presence of employers at the event demonstrates their support of their employees as members of the National Guard.

Boss Lift is an event sponsored by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization. ESGR's fundamental mission is to reach out to the various employers who support their employees who are members of the United States Armed Forces. Each year, ESGR's 54 state committees host national and local events, including the Boss Lift and other educational activities, job fairs, and recognition ceremonies.

Más de 30 patronos de Puerto Rico llegaron al Campamento Santiago en Salinas para participar del evento Boss Lift 2023 de la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico (GNPR) y conocer de primera mano el trabajo que realizan sus empleados como Soldados y Aviadores cuando están en órdenes o servicio activo.

“Estamos muy complacidos, porque luego de varios años sin realizar este evento pudimos invitar a los patronos de nuestros Soldados y Aviadores al Campamento Santiago. Para nosotros es sumamente importante que conozcan el trabajo de sus empleados dentro de la Guardia Nacional de Puerto Rico; que entiendan la misión de lo que es un Ciudadano-Soldado y que los apoyen en todo momento”, dijo el ayudante general de Puerto Rico, General de Brigada Miguel A. Para Méndez la presencia de los patronos en el evento demuestra el apoyo a sus empleados como miembros de la Guardia Nacional.

“Queremos que los patronos se conviertan en nuestros promotores y defensores, y la mejor forma de lograrlo es mostrándoles lo que hacemos, cómo entrenamos y cuál es nuestra misión y filosofía de servir desinteresadamente a nuestro país”, expresó el Ayudante General.

Boss Lift le ofrece la oportunidad a patronos de los sectores público y privado de conocer las destrezas adicionales que adquieren sus empleados durante los procesos de entrenamiento y capacitación de la GNPR y cómo estas habilidades se convierten en un activo positivo para las empresas y organizaciones para las cuales trabajan en su tiempo civil.

Las habilidades excepcionales y el ojo artístico de Rosa captaron la atención de los jueces, asegurándole el máximo honor en esta prestigiosa competencia. Changes at the PRANG

Brig. Gen. Paul Loiselle recently handed over the Puerto Rico Air National Guard Command to Brig. Gen. Humberto Pabón, Jr.

“It is a great honor to accept this challenge and lead you into our next chapter,” said Pabón. “Going forward, as we create this new chapter together, we will do it by shifting our organization vision to our new motto: respect, professionalism, and empowerment.”

Pabón started his career as an Airman 1st Class assigned to the 156th Command Post. As he progressed through the ranks, he held leadership positions at the Squadron, Group, Wing, and Headquarters levels. Prior to his appointment as assistant adjutant general, Air, Pabón held the position of chief of staff of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard, and before that commander of the 156th Wing.

Col. Evaristo M. Orengo III, who took over as commander of the 156th Wing, said: “I look at every single one of you and see the same commitment I have, willing to face any challenge, with motivation and drive. Together we will continue to develop and grow our Airmen and Wing.”

El General de Brigada Paul Loiselle entregó recientemente el Comando de la Guardia Nacional Aérea de Puerto Rico al general de brigada Humberto Pabón, Jr.

“Es un gran honor aceptar este desafío y llevarlos a nuestro próximo capítulo”, dijo Pabón. “En el futuro, mientras creamos este nuevo capítulo juntos, lo haremos cambiando la visión de nuestra organización a nuestro nuevo lema: respeto, profesionalismo y empoderamiento”.

Pabón comenzó su carrera como Aviador Primera Clase asignado al Puesto de Comando 156. A medida que avanzaba en las filas, ocupó posiciones de liderazgo a niveles de Escuadrón, Grupo, Ala y Cuartel General. Antes de su nombramiento como ayudante general auxiliar, Pabón ocupó el cargo de jefe de personal de la Guardia Nacional Aérea de Puerto Rico, y previo a ese cargo, comandante del Ala 156.

El Cnel. Evaristo M. Orengo III, comandante entrante del Ala 156, dijo: “Miro a cada uno de ustedes y veo el mismo compromiso que tengo, dispuesto a enfrentar cualquier reto, con motivación y empuje. Juntos continuaremos desarrollando y haciendo crecer a nuestros aviadores y alas”.

Modernizes Computer Laboratory

STARBASE Puerto Rico is a Department of Defense-sponsored youth educational program located at Muñiz Air Base, in Carolina. The program modernized its computer laboratory inventory with 33 new computers during May, after recently upgrading its internet capabilities.

The new computers will allow students to engage with the latest versions of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs provided in the curriculum.

For the past 27 years, more than 27, 000 middle school students have had the opportunity to participate in and graduate from the STARBASE PR program.

The program aims at maintaining current, cutting-edge technology to continue its operations and aspires to expand in order to serve and impact even more youth throughout Puerto Rico.

STARBASE Puerto Rico es un programa educativo para jóvenes, patrocinado por el Departamento de Defensa, ubicado en la Base Aérea Muñiz, en Carolina. El programa modernizó su inventario de laboratorio de computadoras con 33 nuevos equipos, luego de actualizar recientemente sus capacidades de Internet.

Las nuevas computadoras permitirán a los estudiantes participar con las últimas versiones de los programas de Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas (STEM por sus siglas en inglés) proporcionados en el plan de estudios.

Durante los últimos 27 años, más de 27, 000 estudiantes de secundaria han tenido la oportunidad de participar y graduarse del programa STARBASE PR.

El programa tiene como objetivo mantener la tecnología actual y de vanguardia para continuar con sus operaciones, y aspira a expandirse para servir e impactar a más jóvenes en todo Puerto Rico.
