Prof. Craig Griffen

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Our project is an extension of the Architecture and Design Center on Thomas Jefferson’s East Falls campus. We hoped to be able to connect all of the design students in one location with this new building, as design classes are currently spread out across the campus. The new building is around 22,000 total square feet, with close to 5,000 sq ft of Studio space.

Main Ideas:

Conceptual idea was to design an axial planning and the elevation of the second floor of existing structure posed a achallenge for us design the ramp. To remedy this, altered the ramp to make a 1.25 rotation from a 1.5 rotation. It is an open floor planning to make it more interective spaces.

And the central space around the ramp is the crusial part of the structue, which is called “The Crit Pit” for architetural Crit (review) space.

The Dance Academy 02

Masters Design Project

Prof. Ryan Glick

Location: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

To design an innovative and functional dance academy that will provide a world-class training environment for aspiring dancers. The academy should have a movement, and expression.

A large dance studio with ample natural light, high ceilings, and sprung flooring. Several smaller studios for classes and private lessons. A reception area, office space, and lounge for students and staff. Changing rooms with lockers and showers. A cafeteria and kitchen, ample storage space for dance equipment and costumes. A viewing gallery for performances and events. Easy accessibility and convenient parking for students and visitors. Sustainable design features such as energy-efficient ligting and ventilation systems.

The design is a modern, contemporary design that incorporates elements of movement and fluidity. The use of natural light and open spaces should create a warm and inviting atmosphere that promotes creativity and expression.

BANDHANI CENTER & FOOD MARKET

Bachelor Design Project

Prof. Amit Gotecha

Location: Lakhota Lake, Jamnagar, Gujarat

The purpose of this studio was to understand the urban context and propose an urban insert program. Jamnagar was one of the selected cities for the study purpose, the city is located on the western coast of India, in the state of Gujarat in the Saurastra region. Jamnagar is famous for Bandhani, oil and brass industries. It also has strong influence of eco-tourism due to the presence of Khijadiya bird sanctuary and Dwarka respectively. So, my proposed program for this is Bandhani center and food

Main Ideas:

Conceptual idea was to show how people can have enjoy the view of lake on the both sides. I have planned my design by taking view as a consideration. One road divides my site area in two parts. So, in that scenario I use roof as an element that can work as a bridge, a ramp and also a walkable roof that connects both site patches and make one complete structure.

For walkable roof flooring material, I am using colorful mosaic which colors that use colors to make Bandhani. It gives a full Bandhani texture on roof from top.

Internship Work 04

Masters Design Project

Ar. Brijesh Patel

Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat

In my architecture internship, I have learned how to:

- Manage project timelines and meet milestones while working with both internal and external project team members.

- Design customized industrial facilities for both municipal and commercial clients.

- Develop conceptual design presentations, construction documents, and floor plans from concept to site plan approval.

- Create initial sketches by hand and produce advanced computer renderings of designs using AutoCAD.

- Conduct on-site observations of verify compliance with architectural plans by the construction crew.

Overall, my internship provided hands-on experience in various aspects of the architecture design and project management process.

A Melittology Health & Research Center

Masters Design Project

Prof. Ryan Glick

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Melittology means a brach in entomology specializing in the study of bees.

Bees are able to detect lung and skin cancer. Bees have been trained to detect chemical components of Mycobacterium tu berculosis. They can also detect explosives like TNT, C4 and TATP.

Main Ideas:

As all of us knows, bees do not move around in a random fash ion, but they are methodical. For example, when they are for aging for food, they move in a specific manner and repeat a particular movement known as the “Bee Dance.” On the other hand, humans move in a straight line.

Bees and Humans are involved with this project. Therefore, the concept of the design is to focus on human and bee circulation. As part of the skeleton of the structure, steel frames represent spaces that humans will use, such as laboratories, offices, clinics, etc., and areas such as a greenhouse and nursery have curved walls that suggest bee behavior. Ferro cement is used to construct curved walls with a rough texture.

Masters Design Project

Dr. Kihong Ku

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

During the semester as a group project sponsored by Thomas Jefferson University for 2022 Design Philadelphia Exhibit at the venue, Cherry St. Pier. The project required team effort to come up with a design that involved the experimentation of a very specific (Wood Veneer) provided by instructors, where rigid/flexibility of the same was a big challenge.

Main Ideas:

The project required development in various areas such as digital simulations, hands-on fabrication, and assembaly of a full scale model pavilion structure before the event.

The design proposal was intended to address and respond to environmental, structural, and programmatic issues before and during on-site construction where we had one to two days to assemble everything for the event.
