DESIGN CONCEPT

CENTRAL AMPHITHEATRE

The main concept of the design is to create interaction between the spaces and water.

Massing is done in such a way that a person entering will explore all the parts of the site by moving through corridors and tunnels.

Also, the central amphitheater and the bridge are key spaces, so the entire massing is designed in response to that.

BUILDING TYPE: HOUSING LOCATION:AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT PROGRAMME:LOW COST MULTI-DWELLING ARCHITECTURE

SITE AND CONTEXT Situated in Ahmedabad, the trapezoidal piece of land is flanked by a water body alon its 40M long north edge, a densely wooded area along its 90M long north-eastern edge and ruins of a 6M high stepped retaining compound wall (to a historical complex) along the 90M long south-eastern edge.

A twelve meter wide road without feature or footpath runs along the 120M long western edge of the site. The plot is largely barren, except for a very large Banyan tree of nearly 15M diameter at a distance of 9M from the midpoint of the north edge.

It has barren land around which will be used for construction in future . It has row house on the east-side.

Uttarakhand mountain villages are facing a huge deficit of water at a domestic level.

There are various articles and newspaper clipping confirming the same.

In the current global scenario water is a commodity that is under tremendous threat owing to unplanned urbanisation and prolific gentrification.

The problem multiplies for the communities residing on these mountain villages.

One such indigenous community is theTamta community who were masters of copper craft and are on the verge of extinction.

They had developed a very ancient method of water conservation in mountains at a community level and used to call it “NAULAS.”
