Junior Golf The Junior Golf Program at Palo Alto Hills is one of the finest in the area. Our golf professionals strive to provide world class instructional programs for our juniors. The program has seen incredible success over the years and continues to grow and improve. Our mission is to provide junior members access to the game of golf through a program that builds character values, offers a fun and safe experience and instills confidence through personal achievements.

Drafting/Placement New Students

Juniors members, ages six and older, who are new to the program must be evaluated by a golf professional prior to enrollment to determine the appropriate class for your child. The evaluation is comprised of a series of skill stations that will allow us to determine proper classification. Upon completion of the evaluation, students are grouped using a colored hat system to identify skill level. Each hat color has a specific curriculum, thus allowing instructors to cater to each students set of skills. Curriculums for each level will be published so that parents are aware of the skills being taught and are able to help in the learning process. Classes are grouped by age/ability. The student to teacher ratio is 6:1. Classes are offered Tuesday through Thursday beginning in April. The program is open to children and grandchildren of Golf and Social Members six years or older at Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club.

Continuing Students

Students enrolled in our program for the summer 2012 season are not required to test for placement. Continuing students will be placed in a class immediately following the highest class completed.

Family Tees As you play the course, you will see two additional tee markers strategically placed along the cart path side of the fairway, adjacent to the rough. Family Tees provide our juniors with a specific set of yardages catered to each student’s level of play. Once junior golfers are completely comfortable with our Level II tees, they may move back to the forward set of tees (1 Tree). The 1 Tree tee yardage is included on our regular scorecard.

New for 2013! We’re pleased to announce the addition of the Family Tees on the back nine, after successful implementation of Family Tees on the front nine. These new tees provide juniors an opportunity to play from distances that match their abilities. It is essential to their development that they play from a distance which allows them to reach the greens in regulation, shoot lower scores and make some birdies! So with that in mind we took it one step further. Along with the addition of the back nine tees, a USGA official evaluated the junior tees for slope and rating figures. This allows our juniors to post their scores onto the GHIN handicap system and establish an index. What does all of this mean? It means your sons and daughters are able to compete equitably with anyone from different tees on the same course. It also allows us to expand on the type of junior events/tournaments we host here at the Club.

Due to space restrictions Junior Golf clubs will not be stored at the Club unless each bag has a designated storage space. Please ensure that all golf clubs and bags are labeled with the student’s name.

Safety Safety is the number one concern for the Junior Golf Program. Safety rules and regulations must be followed by all participants and will be strictly enforced by the Golf Professionals. Junior Golf will designate specific areas for instruction, and such areas are reserved for participants only; no adults will be permitted in these areas. Golf Carts are not permitted at any time during Junior Golf. Students are prohibited from riding in, or driving golf carts. Students seen to be endangering themselves or other students will be addressed by a Golf Professional. Continued safety infractions could result in expulsion from the Golf program. 7

Aquatics The PAHGCC pool is busy all year round. Regardless of your age or ability, we have something that is perfect for you! Have a splash reading about our fun aquatics programs below.

Swim Team - Summer Session May 7- July 21 Summer league swim team is a fun activity for your child to join. The season boasts daily practices, weekly swim competitions, team-bonding events, and much, much more. Our goal for this season is to continue to show our strength in the PISL league, where we dual against Menlo Country Club, Menlo Circus Club, Sharon Heights, Los Altos, and Peninsula Golf and Country Club. With practices held Tuesday through Saturday, we devote time to technique of all four swim strokes, speed and endurance, dives and turns, while making unforgettable memories! In similar fashion of past years, we have weekly Pasta Feed after Friday practices. Pasta feeds are geared towards having our swimmers socialize and getting them psyched up for the swim meets. Swim meets begin on the second Sunday of June and continue through the third week of July; the more families committed to the program, the better we perform. After each swim competition, we will continue the tradition of BBQing at our home pool where families can bring their own food to grill. Summer league swimming will not only keep your child active but will do so in an enjoyable way‌.sign up at our Kickoff Dinner on April 21, 2013.
