I n tr o duct i on This design proposal book was developed as a class project within the unit of “Illustration and Digital Publication’ by second-year students pursuing Graphic Arts and Design Practices (GADP), specialising in Illustration, in the Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) program at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design, and Technology.

Proposal A proposal for a wooden toy box inspirired by the river Ganga that can be used to store trinkets, spices, jewellery and any small knicknack.

“Wooden boxes, like rivers, carry the stories and treasures of time, flowing through the tapestry of history.”

My inspiration for the wooden box project was drawn from the mesmerizing beauty of the Ganga, as it gracefully flows through the ancient city of Varanasi.

The river holds a unique charm, blending spiritual significance, timeless traditions, and the vibrant essence of daily life in its waters.

As I observed the wooden boats sailing along the Ganges and the rituals performed on its banks, I was captivated by the rustic yet elegant craftsmanship of the wooden boxes used to store offerings and sacred items.

This sight sparked my imagination, inspiring me to create a wooden box that not only encapsulates the essence of Varanasi but also pays homage to the cultural heritage and artistic craftsmanship that thrive along the river’s banks.

The project, thus, became a tribute to the Ganga’s enduring influence on the soul of the city, blending tradition with modern creativity.
