MOFS ON THE ROCK
MOFs on the Rocks is a simple mobile pop up museum to demonstrate UNCC chemistry department's metal organic framework (MOF) research. This specific example tries to demonstrate basic organic chemistry ideas through the use of its hexagon shaped structure. The hexagon is used commonly for organic chemical structures as well as many MOFs like FE-MOF-74. This mobile museum acts like a food truck easily unpacking from a flatbed trailer, to serve the audience via a small counter with stools, paired with a screen. Each hexagon is a single continuous piece of plywood folded to create the curved, angled hexagons
THE ESTUARY
he massing strategy has a basis in the impacts of water on various land materials: the cracks as soil dries and swells, the ever-changing paths of an estuary as a river meets the sea, or the slow erosion as a drip carves through a stone. Orientation of mass works with the topography to promote natural lighting and coordinate with prevailing wind conditions to increase passive energy efficiency. Chosen materials include terracotta for passive water-based cooling and wooden structure to lower lifespan emissions. Partial radiant conditioning utilizes the thermal capacities of water to lower the need for lifespan energy use while still allowing fresh air supply strategies for all interior spaces.
