NEW! Women’s Heart Health

NEW! De-Age Your Brain

Instructor: Janice Novak Heart disease is the #1 killer of women. In fact, heart disease kills ten times more women each year than breast cancer. Symptoms are different for women than men so many symptoms are ignored or go unrecognized. You have the power to control, prevent and, in some cases, reverse heart disease. In this workshop, we’ll discuss all the things you need to know: signs, symptoms and risk factors of a heart attack; hormones and your heart; foods that can help prevent and reverse heart disease; nutrients that are particularly helpful for heart health; exercise and the 4 numbers you need to know that could save your life.

Instructor: Janice Novak Current research shows lifestyle and diet have a big effect on HOW the brain ages. Cognitive function, which covers all aspects of perceiving, thinking and reasoning, CAN improve. And the very good news is no matter what your age there are things you can begin to do today to improve how quickly and effectively brain cells communicate with each other. We’ll discuss which ‘superfoods’ reduce the damaging effects of toxins and inflammation on the brain and which nutrients are great for memory, attention, processing information and reducing stress. You will learn simple, easy to implement strategies to help your brain stay healthy and alert.

NEW! Child’s Play Theater The Prince and the Pauper (Gr. K-8)

Instructor: Andy Velishek When Edward Tudor, Prince of Wales, sees poor Tom Canty mistreated by one of his guards, he invites the pauper into the palace for a bite to eat. After conversing about each other’s lives, the prince suggests they exchange clothing for fun — in Tom’s rags, the prince looks like a “peacock fell in the mud ’n’ froze” while Tom claims the royal regalia is so heavy it’s “like to break me back.” But the fun and games soon become harsh reality when the prince’s guards mistake Edward for the pauper and throw him into the street while Tom is ushered in to handle important stately affairs — which he fumbles through with hilarity and later, poise. Wearing each other’s shoes (literally), the boys discover what it’s like “on the other side,” and it doesn’t take long for each of them to appreciate the life they always knew. What they each learn about the other’s world will illuminate their lives — and yours — forever. Additional charge for tickets to the performances on Saturday May 21. Thank you for Choosing Community Education! We are excited that you have taken some time to explore our catalog to learn more about the exciting winter-spring programs and services we offer to hundreds of youth and adults in our community.

Teri Staloch, Ed. D. Superintendent

Each year at Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools we choose a theme for the school year. This year it is “We are PLSAS: All In.” This theme symbolizes the amazing work our staff did last school year and honors the synergy and momentum that has continued this school year. Our Community Education staff are “All In” to provide dozens of opportunities for students to develop skills, determine interests and discover talents. Our programs align with the mission of the district, which is to educate all learners to reach their full potential as contributing and productive members of our ever-changing global community. As such, we strive to offer programs we know have a high interest level in our community, enrich students’ lives and help them succeed, all while having a great time. Our instructors are experts and eager to share what they know with students. We know you too will be “All In” to having a great winter/spring participating in Community Education programs. #WeArePLSASAllIn!

Early Learners (Newborn-Age 6) Music Together (Ages Newborn-6 yo w/Adult)

Instructor: Kari Owens, Music Together Discover the joy of making Music Together! Sing, laugh, move and learn along with your baby, toddler or preschooler for 45-minutes of fun each week in these award-winning classes. The goal of Music Together is to make the world a better place by making it more musical. We do this by bringing the highest quality music and movement experiences to children— and involving the grown ups who love them in the magical process of development that only music can provide. The little ones love the engaging classes and the caregivers love helping their children grow into confident, life-long music makers. Classes are mixed-age so the siblings can be together. Families take home a songbook, a corresponding CD and a code to download or stream the music using our free app. Material fee ($43) included in tuition.
