History of SAFAA

This story started sometime in 1993 when Father Gurski attempted to stimulate community involvement in the parish by encouraging parishioners to join various existing organizations. At the same time, he discouraged ethnic sectors from forming their own organizations because he thought this will be divisive and unfavorable to his vision for the parish. Contrary to this idea , a group of Filipinos decided to organize the many families in the parish into a viable association with the same goal of promoting involvement in parish activities. Fr. Frank supported the idea and was instrumental in convincing Fr. Gurski to allow Filipinos to form their own organization within the parish. Thus, with Fr. Gurski’s blessing, SAFAA was born.

After a few meetings, a core group of families concurred to designate its first president. The by laws were eventually formulated and approved by the members. Member families since then had grown to over 200 members and remained committed to supporting the parish church through various social, religious and mostly fundraising activities throughout the year. These activities include the Mother of Perpetual Help novena, San Lorenzo Ruiz novena, Simbang Gabi traditional 9 day Masses, golf tournaments, Easter Egg Hunt for the children, Halloween parties, Valentine’s Day parties, Filipiniana Ball to celebrate Philippine Independence Day, Atlantic City trips, Sunday brunch, etc.

SAFAA has always been a valuable part of the St. Anne’s Annual Feast Festival of the parish’s biggest fundraising event and bring back the community together. I hope and pray we will be doing our festival next year 2023.

In closing, I congratulate the newly elected officers

Of St. Anne Fil Am Association,2022

I am grateful and thankful to all SAFAA officers that I’ve work during my term, even during the time of Pandemic, your all here supporting our Parish Church.

It’s has been my great privilege to have been given the opportunity to serve the church. Looking back in the past 24 months, it has been unexceptionally not a good year because of the pandemic but then we have to deal with it on the later part of my term I continue to serve the church in my own capacity as president with the help of my fellow officers.

Today it is not intent to list out all that I have been accomplished. I believe that I did my part as the president of this organization.

Let us continue to serve and help our parish with new sets officers headed by Susan Lagmay as President which is also my vice president during my term.

Message from Susan S. Lagmay, Incoming President

On behalf of Saint Anne’s Filipino American Association, Officers and members we would like to welcome you all to our 14th SAFAA Induction Ball. It has been 29th years that this organization has been in existence since 1993. Up to now the SAFAA never stop do their part to help and support our parish. That is our main goal to serve the church and the community with the help of our Pastor Father Nigel Mohammed as well as the past priest of St. Anne’s.

I started to joined SAFAA year 2007 and I was elected as a secretary from 2007 2015, I’ve work with three presidents that I really adored Tito Greg Gonzales, Tito Ed Morales & the late Tito Nick Zabala I’ve learn so many things from them like fundraising for the church with the help of our fellow officers. I was elected as Vice President 2016 2021 with the three former Presidents, Jenney Castaneda, Tito Santos and Arthur Yap and I was happy to work with them side by side in helping the Parish and the Community.

After the pandemic 2022 we the officers decided to conduct an election for the new sets of officers and it was my honor to be elected as the President of SAFAA and happy to serve again as the head of the organization.

I will not be hear without the help of SAFAA officers and all the active members of this organization, even if we have different views in politics, we still have one goal for our organization, to help the community and the church.

Congratulations also to my fellow officers of 2022 and thank you for helping me to make this especial event successful. Thank you for all the sponsors and donors who donated for our journals and those who attended this important event. Rest assure that we will continue our journey to serve the community. May the Lord keep us strong as we continue to serve our parish church, Thank you for all your hard work.
