Celebrating One Year of the Mobile Library!
This spring marks a special milestone for our library and our community–the one-year anniversary of the Mobile Library! Over the past year, we have traveled thousands of miles, visited neighborhoods, senior centers, recreation centers, preschools, homeless shelters, the Prince William County Public Schools Global Welcome Center, Boys & Girls Clubs, schools, and connected with so many of you in new and meaningful ways.
The Mobile Library was born from a vision: to bring books, technology, and library services beyond our walls and directly to you. Thanks to your enthusiasm and support, it has become more than just a vehicle–it’s a symbol
National Library Week 2025
of accessibility, discovery, and community connection.
We’ve shared stories under the open sky, helped children sign up for their first library cards, introduced new digital resources, and provided a welcoming space for lifelong learning. Whether you’ve browsed the shelves, attended a pop-up program, or simply waved as we drove by, you’ve been part of this journey.
Here’s to another year of adventure on the road–bringing the library to you, wherever you are.
Drawn to the Library
Millions of people across the country visit their libraries every week. What’s the draw? Everything. From young families stopping in for play and story time, to students sketching out their next creative project in our makerspaces, to seniors seeking tech help and everyone in between, libraries of all kinds help us connect the dots from one part of our journey to the next.
Chart your next literary adventure by browsing the stacks or joining a book club. Let an author color your imagination at an author talk, outline your big business idea with the

Whatever draws you in, Prince William Public Libraries has something for everyone. Celebrate National Library Week, April 6–12, 2025.
Prince William Public Libraries celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Month by recognizing our volunteers and their dedication and passion for volunteerism.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our volunteers. Your contribution to library service and your impact on our community is invaluable. With your help, PWPL can fulfill its vision of being the hub connecting people to the transforming power of information.
In Fiscal Year 2024, PWPL had 586 volunteers who logged 10,196 hours! Volunteers help with library programs, Friends of Library book sales, and even caring for Squirt. Vet tech James from Ridge Lake Animal Hospital has been volunteering to clean Squirt's tank at Chinn Park Library since summer 2023, and Squirt loves him.

PWPL Commemorates VA250 with Special Programs
This spring and summer, RELIC at Central Library will host art-related programs and activities related to the American Revolution and the theme of "Revolution of Ideas." The programs will explore the history of textile crafts, their importance during the American Revolution, and how they evolved from practical activities to modern art forms. The programs will focus on traditional fiber arts from the 18th century to the modern-day artform.

The spring programs include Beaded Lace Cowl Workshop on March 21, Felting the Blue Ridge Mountains on March 28, Embroidery and Cross Stitch Workshop on April 11, and Virginia Flora, Fauna, and Fungi in Felt on April 12. All programs require registration, so don’t miss the opportunity to register at pwcva.gov/library.
This project was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) to provide one-time programmatic support for arts activities that explore the themes of “Revolution of Ideas,” capture stories that commemorate the Revolutionary War, and demonstrate
the impact of revolutionary ideas on our world today.
Established by the General Assembly to commemorate Virginia’s role in the 250th anniversary of American independence (July 4, 2026), the VA250 will mark the nation’s semiquincentennial by bringing Virginians together to learn more about Virginia’s key role in shaping the nation.
RELIC’s programs aim to engage our community in learning about the central role Prince William County played in building a new nation. Prince William County became the first county in Virginia to formally protest the Coercive Acts by the British government by passing the “Prince William Resolves” in June 1774. Prince William County has 12 sites designated as part of the Revolutionary War History Trail. In addition, several sections of the King’s Highway are now parks where people can enjoy nature and learn about history.

Where childhood memories are made. We are committed to providing your child a safe environment along with caring and experienced camp counselors and fun-filled days. Offering specialty camps from arts to sports plus everything in between and full day traditional style summer camps with popular themes each week all for ages 3-17 throughout the county.
Lit Con 2025: Your Ultimate Guide to Events, Activities, and New Reads
Last year's first-ever Lit Con was a huge success, helping to introduce thousands of people to graphic novels and manga. Prince William Public Libraries is excited to bring Lit Con back from April 21–May 4. This year's Lit Con will once again celebrate and feature these genres with programs, activities, and fun for all ages.
Highlights include Super Art Fight, Mod Podge Mania, Dice Delight, and more. Program details are available on pages 7–8.
If you're interested in reading more manga series and graphic novels, here are new titles that just hit our shelves:

A classic manga, "Orochi," was published almost 55 years ago. A connected series of short stories rather than a single story like most manga, "Orochi" was written by Kazuo Muezu and is considered one of the most notable horror mangas ever published. The original nine stories have recently been republished in a four-volume set.
A new graphic novel series for young readers, the "Mapmakers" series has three volumes so far. This series follows
a young girl named Alidade who lives in a land called "the Valley." Alidade discovers a magic map that gives her access to knowledge and power and starts her on a quest to save her home. This series is a great introduction to fantasy for kids.
One of the most popular manga of the recent past was the 72-volume "Naruto." We already carried this series, but recently, we acquired some
replacements for missing volumes. We have also begun carrying the sequel, "Boruto," featuring the titular character, who is the son of Naruto. This series is up to 23 volumes, with more to come.
Some other long-running and familiar manga series are getting new volumes and new copies to fill in gaps–that includes the "Yu-Gi-Oh!" manga series, which finished over 20 years ago but continues to find new readers, so we have added new copies for missing volumes.
There are many other new manga series and graphic novels for all ages, including adventure, mystery, horror, romance, and more. Discover a whole new way of reading! Place a hold on any of the titles mentioned in our Online Catalog at pwcva.gov/library or stop by one of our libraries to browse and see what titles interest you.
Flip through the pages of Explore to see more than 30 Lit Con programs coming to you in two action-packed weeks, including Take and Makes and “Free Comic Book Day” programs on Saturday, May 3, at Dumfries and Manassas City Library. Search “Lit Con” in our Online Events Calendar to plan your experience!
Something Exciting is Growing at Haymarket Gainesville
Little plants are sprouting between the Haymarket Gainesville Library and Bushy Park House. As they grow, these plants will serve a new purpose–they are kitchen plants growing in the new Kitchen Garden, the first of its kind for PWPL.

PWPL was awarded a ChangeX grant, funded by the Nickelodeon Our World US Community Fund, to establish a kitchen garden to educate the community about local history, gardening, and sustainability.
The Kitchen Garden is next to the Bushy Park Historic Site, a historical farm and house from the 1790s. The site is managed by the Prince William Office of Historic Preservation and is in the process of restoration.

Haymarket Gainesville Library aims to contribute to this restoration, and therefore, the Kitchen Garden will simulate a garden Bushy Park’s
residents used to have. The garden will allow community members to learn about farming in the past and gardening in the present and discover the benefits of gardening and buying locally.
Haymarket Gainesville Library will offer hands-on educational opportunities to people of all ages, such as learning how to grow a kitchen garden and exploring herbs and vegetables and historical recipes using them. Community members will have an opportunity to assist with gardening tasks and receive produce from the garden while learning about plants, herbs, and vegetables.
Haymarket Gainesville Library has collaborated with the Prince William Office of Historic Preservation and Master Gardeners from the Virginia Cooperative Extension to select the plants and design the garden and will work with them and other partners to offer programs related to the Kitchen Garden.
Kitchen Garden is yet another successful outdoor project at Haymarket Gainesville Library. The library already has a pollinator garden and a story trail, both funded by grants and sponsorships from ChangeX, Sentara Health, Friends of the Haymarket Gainesville Library, and other community friends and donors.

Story times are more than just books! They’re interactive experiences that engage children with short stories, action rhymes, songs, and fingerplays. Our story times focus on pre-reading skills that all children need to become good readers, and they help parents practice these skills at home. Each story time differs depending on the age group, but all of them help parents foster a love of books and learning in their children.
