America and Americans are in need of REGENERATING AMERICA regeneration. To regenerate is to bring renewed existence—spiritually, physically, psychologically, emotionally, and economically. In this context, Regenerating America means that a rebirth of our country is possible through the expansion of our consciousness, the emergence of the new energy economy, and our changed behaviors impacting marketplace economics. Our complex times require new ideas, thought forms, paradigms, business models, and behaviors. princetongreen.org has defined, and is operating in the new paradigm of 21st century business; a paradigm that will revolutionize the way many companies currently operate. We are building a sales culture of eXpansive entrepreneurs, who are among those building regenerative businesses to help with America's rebirthing process. The outgrowth of the new energy economy leads us to a regenerative economy, thereby Regenerating America. 2013 is the year of transition, and represents a fork in the road. The left fork leads us down a constrictive path where we continue the old way of doing things because we believe it will return us to a place of prosperity, wheras the right fork leads us down an eXpansive path where we embrace clean water and energy solutions. The eXpansive path converges the eXpansive consciousness that we are One, the countless opportunities of the new energy economy, and the changed behaviors of society. It is only when these three realities integrate and flourish that a regenerative economy surfaces. Make a difference. Make money. TM

REGENERATING AMERICA

x

Prologue REGENERATING AMERICA represents multiple meanings. America and Americans are in need of regeneration. To regenerate is to bring renewed existence—spiritually, physically, psychologically, emotionally, and economically. In this context, REGENERATING AMERICA means that a rebirth of our country is possible through the expansion of our consciousness, the emergence of the new energy economy, and our changed behaviors impacting marketplace economics. princetongreen.org is building a sales culture of eXpansive entrepreneurs, who are among those building regenerative businesses to help with America’s rebirthing process. Why are we helping with America’s rebirthing process? Because the Why? is the Y; meaning, the reason why we are doing this is because we face a fork in the road, which is representative of the Y. The left fork of the Y is called the constrictive path, which is the path that depicts the ultimate outcome of civilization dies should we remain stuck in our current ways of living. The right fork of the Y is called the eXpansive path, which is the path that depicts the ultimate outcome of civilization thrives should we discover the benefits of regenerative living. In this context, REGENERATING AMERICA means the evolution of a sales culture of eXpansive entrepreneurs taking the eXpansive path in order to unleash the infinite potential of human beings, enabling us to thrive. American governments, corporations, institutions, and organizations are in critical need of regenerative solutions to help make their buildings operate more efficiently, while improving the environment at large. eXpansive entrepreneurs are among those building their own businesses to help serve the vast needs of water and energy xi

efficiency throughout our country. eXpansive entrepreneurs are working with and through princetongreen.org to carry out our ultimate goal of creating a regenerative economy in America. princetongreen.org’s strategy for creating a regenerative economy is framed as reGeneration X and Y. This strategic framework involves the banding together of Generation X (ages 30-50) and Generation Y (ages 10-36) entrepreneurs working in a reciprocating mentorship capacity. Reciprocating mentorship brings strength to our organization, as Generation X has the ability to mentor Generation Y through wisdom and experience, while Generation Y has the ability to mentor Generation X through an established regenerative mindset and technological expertise. In this context, REGENERATING AMERICA means the creation of a regenerative economy through the banding together of Generation X and Generation Y entrepreneurs. Make a difference. Make money.

REGENERATING AMERICA

Every American faces a serious fork in the road. Each of us possess the power from within to create positive change. We are infinite beings with infinite potential. Our decision to change our behaviors is empowering. Our collective decisions will determine our future as a country, as well as our existence as humans on Earth. Deciding to take the constrictive path or the eXpansive path is analogous to casting a vote for the next seven generations.

intuitively being led to start your own business, then now may be the ideal time to take action. Amidst turmoil is opportunity. Build your business to support your purpose, while creating a life of prosperity, flexibility, balance, inner-peace, and self-reliance. Nobody else will do it for you. The purpose of princetongreen.org is to provide a turn-key infrastructure for eXpansive entrepreneursTM to build a regenerative economy throughout America, and we are taking action. We are an outsourced sales consultants force representing multiple green technology companies. Our mission is to help building owners and corporations find money, save money, and make money through improving the water and energy efficiencies of their buildings. The Year of Transition 2013 defines a time of great expansion, emergence, and change, leading us to a new era of a regenerative economy. 2013 is the year our culture is transitioning to a greater understanding of our existence. With this transition comes opportunity for meaningful change to occur. The evolution of humankind is expanding our level of consciousness, elevating our awareness that we are connected as One with Nature. Somewhere along the way, we disconnected ourselves from Nature. We arrived at a misguided place where our constrictive consciousnessTM believes that Nature and planet Earth are here to serve us. As we expand our consciousness, we realize this isn’t true. With eXpansive consciousnessTM comes opportunity. An increasing demand and a decreasing supply of finite fossil fuels have spawned the emergence of the new energy economy. The cost of finite energy will continue to rise, unless new alternative energy sources are embraced. The outgrowth of the new energy economy occurs as viable clean energy solutions are utilized. With new energy emergence comes opportunity. eXpansive consciousness changes our perspective. Through this new perspective, we are able to learn from our past mistakes, increasing 2

Introduction

our awareness. Our elevated awareness enables us to take corrective actions through modifying our behaviors, thus changing our purchasing decisions and impacting marketplace economics. In essence, elevated awareness changes behavioral economics. With changing behavioral economics comes opportunity.

Postwar Economic Transitions Graphic #2: Trends

Since World War II, we have transitioned from the industrial economy, to the technology economy, and are now into the new energy economy. eXpansive entrepreneurs are focused on the outgrowth of the new energy economy, transitioning us to a regenerative economy.

All aspects of energy—exploration, utilization, efficiency, clean energy resources, research and development, etc.—will drive the bottom line of all for-profit and non-profit entities in the United States and the world. Governments, corporations, organizations, and institutions that have the knowledge and experience to effectively manage and utilize energy, will have an economic and competitive advantage in the global marketplace. The days of cheap energy are over. Informed leaders are experiencing the escalating energy costs cutting into their operating budgets more and more. They realize a new direction is necessary to remain on course. This awareness leads them to the importance of conserving finite energy sources, while generating energy through innovative clean technologies.

A Fork in the Road Every American faces a fork in the road... 3

REGENERATING AMERICA

The left fork leads us down a constrictive pathTM where we continue the old way of doing things because we believe it will return us to a place of prosperity. Constrictive consciousness puts limits on our infinite potential, and operates from an old paradigm, or belief system, that we are separate from Nature, and separate from each other. The constrictive economyTM leverages a mindset of take & get, and thrives on control from the top while having a majority of us be mere puppets in an orchestrated show of greed and deception. The right fork leads us down an eXpansive pathTM where we embrace clean energy solutions, new ideas, thought forms, paradigms, business models, and behaviors. Our mindset is one of give & receive, fueling the outgrowth of a regenerative economy. Our new paradigm is that we are One working together to manifest our infinite potential to create meaningful change. We do so by expanding our consciousness, elevating our awareness, making heart-centered decisions, and creating room for new ideas and thought forms to surface. As we gather more and more, our collective efforts will create a tipping point through which a new America will emerge—based on harmony, unity, abundance, and peace. Regenerative living in America will demonstrate our personal will as Americans for positive change. May it be perceived as an example for other countries to follow, along with being an apology for the exploitive way we have treated them, as well as ourselves. We have the ability to change America, one American at a time. Changing America will change the world. The context of this perspective raises the question, does each American have the courage to take the eXpansive path? 2012 is designated as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All by the United Nations. Awareness regarding the need for sustainable solutions is apparent, yet too few options exist for career transformation into this emerging field. The eXpansive path provides countless opportunities for job creation through the outgrowth of the new energy economy. Fueling its growth is discovering the truth that we 4

Introduction

are One with Nature. With this new belief system in place, our behaviors change, impacting our purchasing decisions and the economics of the marketplace. Consequently, corporations and our government will need to shift their own behaviors to reflect the changing demands of the U.S. marketplace. Power will then be transitioned to, and received by the American consumer. Every single decision we make brings us closer to, or takes us farther away from our own destiny. princetongreen.org is forging ahead on the eXpansive path through the creation of a client-centric organization with a purposedriven sales culture, fueling the outgrowth of the new energy economy. We are here to help building owners, chief engineers, facilities managers, and chief financial officers make their buildings more water and energy efficient. We are responding to the need for the improved efficiency of buildings across our country. We are responding to the need for job creation for unemployed and underemployed Americans. We are responding to the need for career transformation by providing access for eXpansive entrepreneurs to leverage our supportive infrastructure focused on client results. They can build their own viable business, transforming life in America to one of regenerative living. princetongreen.org is the umbrella through which eXpansive entrepreneurs, clients, and viable solutions connect. We provide an opportunity for ambitious people to go for it on their own, supported by an operating platform and a network of colleagues to collaborate with to drive the performance outcomes of governments, corporations, organizations, and institutions.

Decision Time Every single American is faced with a decision—Are you remaining on the constrictive path, or do you have the courage to venture off by taking the eXpansive path? It is princetongreen.org’s belief that the transformation of 5

REGENERATING AMERICA

our country will occur through the banding together of American entrepreneurs harnessing the countless opportunities of the emerging new energy economy. Our transformation is contingent upon our courage to take the eXpansive path. The eXpansive path converges the eXpansive consciousness that we are One, the countless opportunities of the new energy economy, and the changed behaviors of society. It is only when these three realities integrate and flourish that a regenerative economy surfaces.

in a reciprocating mentorshipTM capacity. Reciprocating mentorship brings strength to our organization, as Generation X has the ability to mentor Generation Y through wisdom and experience, while Generation Y has the ability to mentor Generation X through an established regenerative mindset and technological expertise. The outgrowth of a regenerative economy in America and throughout the world is at least a 50-year journey, leading up to the time when most Generation Y workers will be retired (2063). princetongreen.org provides viable solutions to our clients, including—comprehensive bill audits, 179D EPAct and Cost Segregation building audits, energy and water efficiency building audits, energy procurement, cooling tower management, energy management systems, solar power, and wind power—auditing, conservation, and, generation integrated as one. We put our faith in actions, providing opportunities for the right people to excel. Our collective strength will revolutionize America, and beyond. We are gathering the right people to execute our vision of creating a regenerative economy. The time to take action is now.

Who are eXpansive entrepreneurs? eXpansive entrepreneurs are those of us who have elevated our awareness to realize that we are an integrated aspect of Nature, and are busy building regenerative businesses to harmonize life on planet Earth. eXpansive entrepreneurs are advisors, partners, team leaders, solution leaders, market leaders, sales leaders, green partners, student interns, and organizational leaders that comprise our organization. • Advisors (a.k.a. pg.advisors) are the internal sales people consulting directly with our clients. Advisors are independent business owners, leveraging the resources of princetongreen.org to help fulfill clients’ needs. • Partners (a.k.a. pg.partners) are the external sales companies that simply plug in and sellTM the princetongreen solutions portfolio to 7

REGENERATING AMERICA

their clients. Partners are independent companies, leveraging the resources of princetongreen.org to help fulfill clients’ needs. • Team leaders (a.k.a. pg.team leaders) are pg.advisors who bring new pg.advisors onto their team. They are responsible for mentoring and supporting the pg.advisors on their team. There are no limits as to •

how many pg.advisors a team can have. Solution leaders (a.k.a. pg.solution leaders) are the internal experts for the respective solution they represent. They are the liaison between our organization and green partners. Their responsibilities include the ongoing upkeep of marketing and sales materials to ensure all pg.advisors and pg.partners are utilizing the most relevant resources. Market leaders (a.k.a. pg.market leaders) are assigned for every state in the U.S. They are responsible for the outgrowth of business within their respective state through the build out of their partner network, as well as supporting the sales efforts of pg.advisors and pg.partners operating within their state. Sales leaders (a.k.a. pg.sales leaders) represent the leadership necessary to grow the business for each respective green partner we represent. Sales leaders also help to train new market leaders, who in turn, properly support the advisors and partners selling in their markets. Green partners (a.k.a. pg.green partners) are vetted companies of viable solutions (products & services) that we represent in the marketplace. Our joint venture prominently positions the green partner as being powered by princetongreen.org, enabling them to remain focused on their technical strength, and us to remain focused on our strength of public relations, marketing, and sales. Student interns (a.k.a. pg.student interns) are college students providing supportive services, including accounting, legal, engineering, IT, research, and investigative journalism. 8

Introduction

• Organizational leaders (a.k.a. pg.organizational leaders) provide leadership at the organizational level. Their responsibilities include the establishment of our vision, direction, mission, and purpose, as well as the tonality of our culture. They work closely with the sales leaders and markets leaders to ensure continuity throughout the organization. As eXpansive entrepreneurs, we understand that humankind exists within the intricately complex system that is Nature. Our relationship with Nature is a reflection of who we are, and the decisions we make create the world that both ourselves, and our progeny, will live in. This understanding expands our thinking and actions; we choose to live in balance with Nature, thus in balance with ourselves. We consciously embrace a role of stewardship and co-creation with Nature—a relationship in which humans and Nature thrive as One. We are expansive in our thinking, scope, coverage area, and communication. We are expansive in our economic outlook, beliefs, ideas, and affection for planet Earth. We are entrepreneurs, bringing expansive solutions to various world challenges. eXpansive entrepreneurs have as their life’s purpose a devotion to supporting the health of planet Earth through building regenerative businesses. At this pivotal point in time, it is increasingly imperative that those who care about and understand the importance of a healthy planet, act with courage and perseverance to protect that which we know is both invaluable and irreplaceable. eXpansive entrepreneurs view business through a new perspective that is fitting for the 21st century; a perspective that captures best practices and research from the past, melding them with progressive business strategies of the future, and creating present-day entrepreneurial companies that manifest the reality of regenerative living throughout America. The outgrowth of regenerative businesses will change both 9

REGENERATING AMERICA

America and the global community. eXpansive entrepreneurs are among the ones building those businesses. eXpansive entrepreneurs have the courage to take meaningful action.

What is Regenerative? Our U.S. Armed Forces provide a simplified example of regenerative living: when one troop is replacing another troop at an encampment, the departing troop leaves it in better condition than when they arrived. Their respect for Nature and humankind is evident, and their integrated community strengthens through continuous improvement. The term regenerative describes processes that restore, renew, revitalize, or regenerate their own sources of energy and materials, creating sustainable systems that integrate the needs of society with the integrity of Nature. Regenerative Design (sometimes referred to as cradle-to-cradle design) was born in the U.S.A. It is a term used in architecture to describe the next phase of development in Sustainable Design. The full significance of the regenerative approach to Sustainable Design is in the context of its relationship to how the field as a whole is evolving. The trajectory of this evolution is based on seeing the pattern behind the field’s ongoing shifts in thinking and practices. Five design approaches—Readily Manageable Uniformity, Sustainable Design, Integrative Design, Ecological Design, and Regenerative Design—depict this trajectory. While Regenerative Design introduces just the added dimensions that distinguish it from other design approaches, it should be understood as encompassing all of the other four. Readily Manageable Uniformity was how John Lyle described the pattern that shaped design and construction in the Industrial Age prior to the rise of sustainability concerns. This pattern, fed by the assumption of unlimited material resources, emphasized maximum efficiency in the use of human resources and created distinctiveness primarily by superficial aesthetic features. Design decisions became increasingly 10

Introduction

severed from their ecological consequences. The destructive impact this design style has on both the planet Earth and the human spirit have set the stage for the widespread interest in sustainability. Sustainable Design is much more akin to that of Nature. It involves whole systems thinking with the goal of eliminating negative environmental impact. Integrative Design focuses on the building as a whole, weaving elements and systems—energy, water, waste, etc.—into a richer, more complex whole. Meanwhile, the same pattern was unfolding in design fields related to the environment and human communities, yet these three aspects of design—building, land, and community—remained relatively isolated. Pioneers began to push against the limits of Integrative Design because the building and its site were being treated as two separate entities. Ecological Design was the natural succession because it integrates the building, land, and community within the context of ecological science. The limits of Ecological Design gave rise to Regenerative Design. As Regenerative Development expert, Pamela Mang, describes “Regenerative Design introduces into Ecological Design at least two additional streams—the science or art of place, and the science of living systems. Regeneration is far more than simple renewal or restoration. Definitions of the word regenerate include three key ideas: a radical change for the better, creation of a new spirit, and returning energy to the source. It calls for the integration of design and human spirit. It demands that we reunite the art and science of design because we cannot succeed at sustainability if we fail to acknowledge human aspiration and will as the ultimate sustaining source of our activities.” Regenerative living is the application of Regenerative Design. Building our regenerative economy is based on embracing new applications of place and systems. Even though Regenerative Design and application has been evolving for well over a decade, it still has 11

REGENERATING AMERICA

not gained widespread acceptance in American society—primarily due to a lack of massive sales efforts promoting its adoption. princetongreen.org is the sales force (a.k.a. pg.sales force) fueling the evolution of the regenerative economy. In business, nothing of significance happens until something is sold.

Those Making a Difference Pioneers, thought leaders, business leaders, filmmakers, futurists, scientific visionaries, and spiritual leaders—including Hazel Henderson, Bill Reed, Ann Emerson, Jim Downs, Mark Biedron, Lori Stohs, Walter R. Stahel, William McDonough, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Pamela Mang, John Henry, Janice Hall, Peter Fontaine, Scott Bryce, Christopher Zelov, Louie Psihoyos, Lisa Gruenloh, Mark Swiger, Tom Shadyac, Nassim Haramein, Chip Comins, Richard McLaughlin, D.B. Lichtstrahl, Bob Goodwin, Rein Triefeldt, John Sosik, Amory Lovins, Jason Kliwinski, Jigar Shah, Jamie Sams, Foster Gamble, and Kimberly Carter Gamble (see page 169 for links to their websites)—have positively impacted aspects of sustainability and Regenerative Design; our connection with Nature and visions for new ways of living; as well as our understanding of human identity. The isolated wisdom contained in each of these aspects will coalesce, fueling the outgrowth of a regenerative living in America.

The Impetus for Meaningful Change princetongreen.org was founded in November 2008 to be an impetus for meaningful change. As the economy was collapsing, we were venturing out, paddling against a very strong current of resistance. Building our foundation and establishing our market presence amidst turmoil has positioned us perfectly for tremendous growth now. We have grounded our model in scalability to allow for this growth, and are seeking the right people to join in on our 12

Introduction

collective efforts. Our pg.sales force is the economic engine that is fueling the growth of a thriving environmental community, otherwise known as the princetongreen community, or simply pg.community. Scalability is key for sweeping transformation to occur. Our approach is to create a myriad of local teams bringing about needed changes within their communities. Eventually, our local efforts will intersect and overlap, transforming society as a whole. princetongreen.org is a virtual organization providing the necessary resources for local teams to prosper. Our virtual operating platform creates limitless connectedness supporting the local outgrowth of regenerative living throughout America. REGENERATING AMERICA has been created through the evolution of our business. We are at the inception of our fourth year, and have gained tremendous insights through building our business during complex economic times. Many traditional entrepreneurs have a tendency to set out on their own, viewing the business they intend to build from a limited perspective that typically includes products, services, markets, sales efforts, customers, and finances. Yet they tend to overlook other critical elements of building a successful business, including the vision, mission, purpose, branding, organizational structure, selection process, onboarding, culture, community, and how the outcomes of their work will help to enhance or detract from the vibrancy of planet Earth. We are sharing our insights into building a successful regenerative business to encourage other entrepreneurs to do the same. Additionally, in order for large corporations to retain their competitive advantage, most will need to retool themselves by aligning with the new paradigm of 21st century business. We present the long-term vision of princetongreen.org through creating a picture of where we are going and who we intend to become. We encourage you to leverage these principles, ideas, and 13

REGENERATING AMERICA

concepts to help build a more successful company. The new paradigm of business demands transparency and collaboration, and this pg.book is demonstrating just that.

Intended Readership REGENERATING AMERICA has been written for: 1. Entrepreneurs who are considering becoming an advisor or partner with princetongreen.org, to provide them an in-depth understanding of our operating structure as a way to assess whether it resonates with them. rincetongreen.org acknowledges, yet refuses to be discouraged by the negativity of the economic downturn brought about by the greed, deception, and fear of the corporatocracy that has emerged on Capitol Hill, as the decisions of elected politicians increasingly reflect the desires of corporate executives and not those of the American people. We have moved past the polarization of our political parties, realizing that most of our leaders do not have a clear solution to bring about genuine societal and economic transformation. We have moved past this vortex of negative energy that has our country frozen in fear through understanding and accepting the reality of our times, seeking answers to our problems from within ourselves. It is through our understanding of the political, corporate, and economic complexities that we are able to build and position a viable business opportunity for eXpansive entrepreneurs to transform their sales talents into prosperous careers through creating the regenerative 17

REGENERATING AMERICA

economy in America. Roads, bridges, tunnels, sewer lines, and most of all, buildings, are in desperate need of retrofit and repair. America’s infrastructure is literally crumbling, and our electrical grid is completely outdated. New innovation, sustainable materials, and work skills are required to rebuild our country. princetongreen.org is igniting the spirit of American entrepreneurism. Jim Clifton, Chairman of GALLUP, states in his newly released book, The Coming Jobs War, “...if America is to be fixed quickly, it needs a minimum of 5,000,000 new good jobs right now and a minimum of 10,000,000 new good jobs, net gained, within five years. Those jobs can’t be government provided ‘shovel-ready’ jobs because they have to be sustainable jobs created organically from the spirit of people through entrepreneurship and innovation.” A significant number of jobs can be created, and careers transformed, through the banding together of like-minded entrepreneurs—those with the consciousness to realize that our true power comes from within; those who do not succumb to the negativity projected by the media; those with the gumption to take matters into their own hands, not waiting for outside forces to fix their problems. Even so, Americans are discouraged from starting a business due to the tight financial market, a fear of venturing out on their own, and a lack of viable business ventures.

Taxes, Subsidies, and a Tight Credit Market princetongreen.org believes that too few politicians understand business, as many of the debates in Congress about job creation approach this challenge primarily through addressing taxes. Restructuring our tax code is not the best way to dig ourselves out. Giving tax breaks to the rich will not encourage them to heavily invest. Giving bailout money to the largest corporations and banks will not encourage them to spend and lend money. Reducing taxes for small businesses will not fuel their growth, as many are barely profitable to begin with. Besides, taxes are 18

The Opportunity for Career Transformation

necessary in order to support our governing body. princetongreen.org believes that we need to adopt a mentality of tax embracement and not tax avoidance. Through paying taxes, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs are supporting the very government that provides us all the opportunity and freedom to generate profits. While we may wish that our government spent our tax dollars in a more responsible way, change must always start from within. At princetongreen.org, we choose always to lead by example, embracing a transparent business model and responsibly paying our share of taxes. Government subsidies offset the true cost of finite energy sources, and because tax revenues support them, U.S. taxpayers are still footing the bill. Cheap energy no longer exists. For example, the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) determined that after accounting for all of the costs of gasoline use, the actual price should be closer to $15 [per gallon]. This price, however, does not reflect the cost of externalities, such as oil spills, water pollution, and reduced crop yields, in addition to increased rates of asthma and respiratory diseases caused by air pollution. It is princetongreen.org’s opinion that these government subsidies, along with the lobbyists that promote them, simply need to go away. Neither one is serving the interests of the American people, rather, the oil companies. These subsidies were originally initiated to fuel research and development within the oil industry. Though, they have remained in tact to conceal the true cost of oil. Capitalists have been successful in building a petroleum-based economy, and they are going to whatever lengths necessary to ensure this economy remains in tact. Plastics, laundry detergent, electricity, panty hose, shoe polish, trash bags, shampoo, nylon rope, ink, insecticides, toilet seats, dresses, tires, perfumes, fishing lures, hand lotion, pillows, dishes, golf balls, hair curlers, deodorant, vitamin capsules, food preservatives, shoes, shag rugs, floor wax, among countless others, all require the use of 19

REGENERATING AMERICA

petroleum in their manufacturing processes. What if Americans were paying the true cost of gasoline directly at the pump? Our driving habits, purchasing decisions, and voting choices would dramatically change. Corporatocracy at work. Many instances of political unrest throughout the world, as well as the constant stream of wars occurring, have to do with the control of oil. A shift in perspective is necessary for politicians to change their ways, and our country. For example, if the U.S. Government reallocated military dollars away from controlling oil, and invested those same dollars in renewable energy sources, utilizing, in part, veterans to carry out the work, the complexion of our country would instantly shift towards one of regenerative living. If our existing politicians do not possess the ability to make this shift, then it’s time for the American people to change our political leadership. Although, the politicians, judges, and lawyers have successfully created a political and legal system that prevents such drastic change to occur, which is why the last remaining leverage point American citizens have is our purchasing decisions. We change our decisions, we change our country. By way of experiment, we are challenging (a.k.a. pg.challenge #1) every American to STOP purchasing bottled water in less than 1-gallon containers. In the United States, bottled water often costs up to $3 per bottle, while a similar volume of tap water costs less than a penny. Typically 90% or more of the cost paid by bottled water consumers goes to things other than the water itself—such as bottling, packaging, shipping, marketing, retailing, other expenses, and mainly, huge profit margins. Americans purchase and dispose of over 500 million plastic water bottles every week. This is enough bottles to circle the globe 5 times! Let’s simply replace the use of these small plastic water bottles with reusable water bottles, which we are selling through our website at our cost to encourage participation (www.princetongreen.org). What is even more absurd, is the reality that a 1-gallon bottle 20

The Opportunity for Career Transformation

of spring water COSTS LESS than a 24 oz. plastic bottle of spring water. Five times the product for approximately half the cost! A great example of spring water companies preying on Americans’ need for convenience. Furthermore, the bottled water industry has successfully manufactured demand through fear tactics claiming that tap water should be relegated to washing clothes and doing dishes. Their marketing strategies create images of mountain springs and tropical islands even though most bottled water actually comes from the tap! They simply run tap water through another filtration system so they can call it purified, creating the illusion that it was polluted beforehand. They have manipulated the market, influencing Americans to buy their water when it is readily available for, quite literally, a tiny fraction of the cost. Changing our behavior, consciously choosing to no longer purchase water in less than 1-gallon containers will help heal the planet and eliminate unnecessary waste. For as long as we don’t change our behaviors, these corporate conglomerates will continue to cash in—at the expense of the environment. [For more information, go to: http://storyofbottledwater.org] In reality, making this single change in behavior can have a profound impact on the market and the environment. Hence why we are encouraging every American to participate. Our experiment will validate that the power of behavioral economics resides with the consumer. And, through this validation, a pathway fueled by behavioral economics will emerge, leading us to a regenerative economy in America. Amen. Our experiment represents only one simple example. Here are ten more simple examples, among thousands of others, which, through modifying our behaviors and/or purchasing decisions, have a positive change in our lives and marketplace economics: • Purchasing a new car that gets at least 40 m.p.g. 21

REGENERATING AMERICA

• Buying toys that not are made of plastic • Buying less, while be willing to pay more for U.S. manufactured products • Buying products only from companies that not are damaging the Earth • Buying foods that are not processed • Cutting the consumption of meat in half, while doubling the consumption of fruits and vegetables • Buying organic, locally grown food • Turning off the lights when leaving a room • Turning off the water running when brushing teeth and washing the dishes • Taking active measures within each family, school, business, and community to conserve water and energy Interestingly, none of these examples are unrealistic, none of them take dramatic effort or sacrifice in any one American’s life. Having each of us embrace these new behaviors will have a profound change on marketplace economics. Constricted thinking leads us to believe that each of us cannot make a difference. Expansive thinking leads us to believe that nothing is impossible, everything is solvable. And, bringing all this back to the decision that each of us will make at the fork in the road, the question remains: Do you have the courage to take the eXpansive path? Even though our government bailed out the U.S. banking industry, banks are not lending money to small businesses. Most small business owners are forced to put everything on the line when seeking financing to fuel their business venture, which discourages many people from starting their own business. Historically, real estate equity was used as collateral. The record downturn in the real estate market has made it even more challenging for the entrepreneurs who are no longer able to utilize their equity as collateral. The most important 22

The Opportunity for Career Transformation

thing our government can do is to encourage Americans to start their own businesses; offering additional support to those business owners addressing our most serious problems, including the environment and dependencies on finite energy sources. Specifically, our government needs to back viable entrepreneurial opportunities by providing easy access to capital at low interest rates for entrepreneurs without the need for collateral. Investing in the will of the American people ignites a sense of hope and inspiration within the U.S. economy. The economic outlook for the U.S. is perceived by most Americans as hopeless. Until hope is restored, nothing will change. The best strategy our government can embrace is to invest in the will of American entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurism is among our most sacred blessings of being an American. Our country was founded on entrepreneurism, as corporate conglomerates were non-existent. Our government needs to ignite the start-up of small businesses, then observe the power of American entrepreneurs climbing our way out of a very deep hole. In exchange, small businesses need to embrace paying taxes once profitable. We have come full circle, and the time is now that we return to the roots of what made our country among the greatest in the world.

Our Complex Times Until the beginning of the 21st century, working in Corporate America was prosperous, secure, and provided plenty of opportunities for advancement. However, prosperity, security, and opportunity have been replaced by an atmosphere of greed, insecurity, and fear. These negative dynamics have squashed corporate creativity, loyalty, and engagement. All this, combined with a lack of trust in leadership, has vastly contributed to our economic demise. In fact, according to the 2012 Edelman Trust Barometer, distrust is growing; nearly twice as many countries are now skeptics, and fewer countries are now in the neutral zone. In western economies, trust in 23

REGENERATING AMERICA

government and business move in sync since 2008, and in 2012, only 45% of people trust U.S. businesses and 36% trust the U.S. Government. Also in 2012, the credibility of CEOs and government officials plummeted: overall CEOs dropped 12 percentage points from 50% in 2011 to 38% in 2012; overall government officials dropped fourteen percentage points from 43% in 2011 to 29% in 2012. Both of these decreases represent the biggest declines in Barometer history. Interesting how patterns and numbers help to tell the story of the many challenges we are facing as a country, and around the world. Restoring trust is a prerequisite to restoring hope. As mentioned in the Introduction, the left fork leads us down a constrictive path where we continue the old way of doing things because we believe it will return us to a place of prosperity, whereas the right fork leads us down an eXpansive path where we embrace clean energy solutions as well as new ideas, thought forms, paradigms, business models, and behaviors, leading us to a regenerative economy. Those of us who travel down the constrictive path will be repeating past mistakes, engaging in destructive behaviors. On this path, the Earth will continue to be destroyed by humans depleting her resources, polluting her land, water, and sky. As long as we are dependent on oil, we will be reliant on the Middle East, Canada, and elsewhere, while depleting this finite energy source. By remaining dependent on gas (and oil), hydraulic fracturing operations will, most likely, continue to pollute our land and waterways. By remaining dependent on coal, mining operations will continue to strip the land of minerals, pollute the Earth, and destroy entire ecosystems. By remaining dependent on nuclear power, public and environmental safety is at serious risk. With the advancement of technologies such as cell phones, televisions, and computers, our demand for electricity continues to rise. Therefore our demand for oil, gas, coal, and nuclear power—all used to create electricity—continues to rise. Unfortunately, all of the externalities 24

The Opportunity for Career Transformation

such as war, resource depletion, environmental damage, pollution, and public safety are not factored in, obscuring the true cost of these finite energy sources. With these hidden costs factored in, the cost of clean energy technologies, particularly solar photovoltaic, is much less expensive and much less destructive in comparison. In essence, we need to be raising solar panels in this country the same way we raise our flag— with a sense of freedom and independence.

The Misconception of Green Buildings According to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, green buildings reduce the negative impacts of buildings on occupants and the environment in five general categories: sustainable site planning, safeguarding water and water efficiency, energy efficiency and renewable energy, conservation of materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality. Even though the USGBC has done a wonderful job building awareness for the need of green buildings, Americans tend to have a misconception that they are much more expensive than traditional construction. When viewing the true cost of a building, one needs to take into account the cost of operation over its lifetime. When doing so, green buildings cost considerably less. Yet, they fall prey to pay me now or pay me later, which is why most of the commercial, industrial, public, and government buildings we’ve built over the past several decades were based purely on the initial cost of construction. This presents a huge problem for America’s infrastructure, as many of these buildings are in desperate need of upgrading and repair; they are poorly insulated, the indoor air quality is substandard, and they are water and energy hogs. Changing our perception to reflect this reality represents a huge opportunity for the transformation of our country and a huge opportunity for eXpansive entrepreneurs to build prosperous careers— 25

REGENERATING AMERICA

Make a difference. Make money.

The Complexities of Globalization Globalization has spawned four major markets: Brazil, Russia, India, and China, otherwise known as BRIC. As these BRIC economies grow and these countries continue to become increasingly modernized, the pace at which we deplete finite clean water and energy sources continues to accelerate. Globalization poses an interesting challenge: through our interconnectedness, we come to the realization that we are One. Along with this awareness comes a greater demand for the proper use of Nature’s resources. In the past 12 years, the world population has grown from 6 billion to 7 billion people. As the world population soars and we continue to pollute our waterways, the tribal wars over water in Africa will quickly become a global occurrence. In fact, this water dilemma has already spread to the U.S. as many southern states, including Georgia, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona, are experiencing droughts. Hence why, princetongreen.org is focused on helping these states with their water conservation efforts. As we continue to drain planet Earth of finite energy sources, the probability of war remains present. Think about it, would you want to be alive when we run out of oil, gas, coal, or clean water? Even though this may not happen in our lifetime, are we so arrogant to ignore our responsibilities toward future generations? princetongreen.org believes we need to adopt a strategy of making heart-centered decisions, taking into consideration the impact on the next seven generations.

Our Brutal Media The media is owned and influenced by major corporations, including General Electric. The current climate in America is such that lobbyists, politicians, and the media are controlled by corporate interests. The media is the biggest culprit behind solidifying the downright fearful mindset of 26

The Opportunity for Career Transformation

our society. The media has converted news into entertainment, and their form of entertainment is based on a competitive landscape of drama. The media molds the consciousness of society; we are conditioned by what is drilled into our minds. It seems as if those in power would like to keep us continually distracted from personal evolution and awareness of truth through focusing the media’s message on all things superficial. When we are conditioned through stories of fear, control, greed, power, and scarcity, that is what our conscious mind believes. Fear is holding back the U.S. economy. Fear has brought about a sense of hopelessness. As long as we perceive matters in this way, the economy will not get better. We need to stop being controlled by outside influences (especially the media), and each of us needs to connect with our higher self (i.e. quieting our minds through meditative reflection) to figure out our life’s purpose.

Discovering Our Purpose Discovering our purpose brings about a sense of hope. GALLUP World Poll research identifies entrepreneurial hot spots simply by measuring hope. Hope can change the world, and is a leading indicator of future success. Hope leads to inspiration, through which entrepreneurism is ignited. Everything is created twice—first in our minds, then in threedimensional form. Inspiring entrepreneurs through hope is critical; because until someone is inspired, no meaningful action occurs. Inspired entrepreneurs carry out their work with pride and passion.

Reigniting Our Sense of Pride Reinvigorating the U.S. economy is contingent upon reigniting our sense of pride. Our pride is demonstrated through our passion. Our passion leads us to unleashing the infinite power from within. Until a sense of hope, inspiration, pride, and passion are instilled throughout the American workforce, our power will not awaken, our potential will 27

REGENERATING AMERICA

not flourish, and not much will change. Even if capital and fear weren’t blocking access, many people simply do not know what type of business to start, or they lack the experience and/or confidence of being in business for themselves. The business world is highly competitive, and the failure rate of starting a new business is over 90%. Developing a viable business venture is no easy task. Entrepreneurs tend to be lone rangers, taking on the world in isolation. Finding a viable, affordable, and collaborative business opportunity significantly increases the likelihood of success. The princetongreen opportunity meets these three criteria.

ur intention is not be redundant in conveying who we are, where we are going, and who we intend to become. Rather, we’ve covered a lot of aspects with our business model in the Introduction and Chapter 1, and we feel compelled to clearly articulate our vision in a coherent manner. The vision of princetongreen.org involves traveling down the eXpansive path by building a bridge to our future through the banding together of like-minded eXpansive entrepreneurs, fueling the integration of sustainable solutions in the new energy economy. REGENERATING AMERICA

Our purpose is to provide a turn-key infrastructure for eXpansive entrepreneurs to utilize in helping to build a regenerative economy throughout America, and we are taking action. We are an outsourced sales consultants force representing multiple green technology companies. Our mission is to help building owners and corporations find money, save money, and make money through improving the water and energy efficiencies of their buildings. We align with the Universe through recognizing that we are an extension of Nature. Therefore, we care for the environment while leveraging infinite energy sources including the sun, wind, and water. With the primary demographic group of our sales culture (a.k.a. pg.sales force) being Generation X and Y, our vision extends 50 years into the future—the point when most Generation Y people will be retired. It will take this duration of time to transform to a regenerative economy. This includes the retrofit of existing buildings, the Regenerative Design and construction of all new buildings, the global business community fully embracing the triple bottom-line approach, and the expansion of consciousness whereby the global community views itself as One—aligned with, connected to, and living in balance with Nature and one another. Our sales culture organically grows through the banding together of eXpansive entrepreneurs focused on building regenerative businesses. Our free will culture is self-managed, enabling flexibility and balance to naturally exist. Our determination, perseverance, and focus on performance are what wake us up in the morning. Our initial focus is transforming buildings to increase their levels of efficiency, while decreasing their dependency on finite water and energy sources. The next level of our evolution includes a large footprint in areas of environmental challenges. For example, our intentions are to be involved in the monitoring of water quality in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as hydraulic fracturing sites such as the 30

Marcellus Shale and Bakken Formation. Our market positioning is simply that we know buildings, as buildings are a common denominator across all industries. Together our advisors and partners help to transform commercial, industrial, public, and government buildings. As we evolve, our standards for vetting the technologies and companies we represent become more and more stringent. Our system is a meritocracy, which means that the technologies and companies we represent are valued based on performance—the best have the most merit, and rise to the top. Higher education in America is the best in the world. princetongreen.org is leveraging the untapped potential that exists by working with colleges and universities in various capacities, including: 1. Providing hands-on experience researching and vetting our technologies 2. Offering internships to working students 3. Extending career opportunities to graduating seniors 4. Assisting with the greening of campuses across the U.S. 5. Partnering with universities to help bring their patented technologies to market—enabling them to green themselves We work with schools and municipalities, as most of their buildings are severely inefficient. We help to align institutional and private investors with viable sustainability projects in schools and communities, while bringing forth education to help expand the awareness levels of students, parents, and community members to take an active role in regenerative living. We work with companies to improve the efficiencies of their buildings and plants; reducing their fixed operating costs, improving profitability, and helping to strengthen their brand image in the marketplace through promoting their sustainability efforts. 31

REGENERATING AMERICA

We are catalysts for building regenerative communities through helping them create a net benefit to the natural, cultural, and economic systems. Regenerative economies define success as an interconnected lattice of beneficial development within a region. Replicating local success brings about transformational change. The vision of princetongreen.org includes the evolution of pg.media—an entity whose mission is to build environmental awareness while broadcasting the positive changes taking place. Within pg.media, the pg.journal helps to showcase client projects that stimulate community engagement and regeneration, and the pg.forum shares ideas and opinions among pioneers, thought leaders, business leaders, filmmakers, futurists, scientific visionaries, and spiritualists. pg.media will bring integrated support for our pg.sales force, pg.association, and pg.foundation. The pg.association model is a tent of small and large businesses, universities, colleges, schools, trade professionals, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and industry experts sharing a vast array of the best green technologies and services under one roof, thus stimulating new ideas for economical and ecological growth. This kind of collaboration model infuses game changing solutions into the hands of our association members and the industries they represent. Once the pg.association is launched, it will assume the research and vetting of technologies and companies that the pg.sales force represents. Once the pg.foundation is launched, its core mission will be to provide money for the retrofitting of depressed, urban schools, while providing seed money for graduates and other budding entrepreneurs with viable regenerative business plans. princetongreen.org will assist with the retrofits by helping to integrate sustainable technologies. In essence, the success of princetongreen.org will fuel the pg.foundation, and the pg.foundation will fuel princetongreen.org—building an internal self-perpetuating, regenerative economy. Overall, the pg.foundation is 32

Rather, we view our world-class website as our headquarters, our face to the marketplace. Our website is ever changing and will never be complete; its evolution is infinite, much like the Universe. In essence, as long as our organization exists, our headquarters will continue to grow and improve. In addition, our vision includes the manifestation of our on33

and regenerative education. Our intent is for the pg.bus to be occupied with pg.advisors and technical experts hosting K-12 school assemblies across the country by day, while presenting about the princetongreen opportunity in respective colleges and town hall meetings by night. The pg.bus will build awareness for regenerative living, while providing opportunities for student and community involvement. In summary, we work on solving the problems of our complex times through embracing our highest selves. Acting through inspiration encourages others who observe our inspiring actions. princetongreen.org inspires entrepreneurs by providing an opportunity to build their own businesses utilizing our model. Success will come from their individual efforts combined with the support princetongreen.org offers.

Supportive Context for Our Vision Establishing a supportive context is necessary for the clarity of our vision to crystallize. 34

The Vision of princetongreen.org

A Justifiable Wealth Redistribution Morally wrong but legal doesn’t make it right. A justifiable wealth redistribution in America is necessary to bring our society back into balance, breaking the current trajectory leading us to a two-class society. According to the Congressional Budget Office, since 1979 the average pre-tax income for the bottom 90% of households decreased by $900, while the top 1% experienced an increase of over $700,000. During the economic expansion between 2002 and 2007, the income of the top 1% grew 10 times faster than the income of the bottom 90%. By 2007, the top 1% owned nearly 35% of the country’s total wealth. Also by that time, the top 20% owned a whopping 85%, while the bottom 80% owned a mere 15%. And now, with our economic collapse, the top 20% continues to accumulate wealth through purchasing assets, including real estate, at substantially depressed levels. Always remember that when someone is dumping a stock or a piece of real estate, someone else is buying it. And, in this economy, those buying tend to be the ones sitting on cash. The bottom 80% of Americans (which the founders of princetongreen.org are among) are mere pawns in the constrictive economy. Though, those of us involved in princetongreen.org are taking action to break free from this stranglehold. Our vision is grounded in helping to redistribute wealth to the 80% of working Americans through providing an opportunity for building a regenerative business of their own—a way through to a new life of abundance, balance, and joy.

Learning From Past Mistakes Human evolution is based on learning from past mistakes, living in the present moment to experience the joy of life, and creating the future we desire by expanding our cultural perspective to one of deeper understanding and awareness. If we do not embrace the learning aspects of our mistakes, they will undoubtedly repeat themselves; whereas if 35

REGENERATING AMERICA

we do, it will enable us to break the old patterns of our past, evolve as humans, and transform our society. Until we break these patterns of behavior through expanding our awareness, we will continue to support the massive financial inequality that exists here at home.

Limiting Belief Much of the discord we feel on Earth is the result of our personal evolution colliding with the stagnant belief systems of our past. One such limiting belief system is the illusion of separateness. When we embrace the knowing that we are One, made of the same matter, learning the same lessons, desiring joy-filled and peaceful lives, then we will have the capacity to transform into an increasingly compassionate and harmonious society. With this in mind, the pinnacle outcome of globalization will be a singular unified community with an eXpansive consciousness, realizing that we are One—all races, all religions, all people, joined with the trees, air, water, birds, fish, and mountains.

Universal Energies The Universe, and all things in it, exists in a natural state of evolution. Humans are an aspect of the Universe, and our identities live in two key dimensions. Our intangible soul is the core of our existence and is directly connected to the Universe. Our tangible body represents our physical existence on planet Earth. The intersection of the intangible and tangible dimensions enables us to leverage universal energies to manifest the reality of a regenerative future on Earth, now. Connecting with the universal energies to heal the planet, primarily distinguishes a true regenerative company versus one that is not.

Doing What’s Right for a New Life We have the ability to align with the Universe through choosing to travel the eXpansive path, embracing clean water and energy technologies while weaning our dependencies on finite energy sources to aid in healing the planet. America needs to put politics and corporate greed aside, and 36

The Vision of princetongreen.org

do what is right for the long-term nurturing of all life on Earth. Our country needs a long-term strategic plan and Wall Street needs a longterm perspective, especially since we are now competing in a global marketplace. Embracing clean water and energy solutions needs to be among our primary focal points. The mindset of America is shifting toward a new type of life—one that is balanced and in harmony with Nature. For this transformation to occur, spiritual attributes need to underpin this new mindset—attributes such as trust, integrity, security, creativity, love, respect, simplicity, joy, wisdom, and well-being. Barbara Marx Hubbard has said that “problems are evolutionary drivers and crises precede transformation.” During these challenging times it is crucial that we follow our highest aspirations with courage, faith, and perseverance. Such actions instill others with a sense of hope.

Generating Power From Within As part of our current economic and social dismantling process, people are realizing that all of our materialistic stuff does not generate happiness; whereas, simplification and balance lead to inner peace—the foundation of true happiness. We are also realizing that the pathway to security is through building a career and life based on self-reliance. When people do build a business of their own, they become self-reliant and self-aware. Awareness leads us to our life’s purpose. Awareness comes from generating power from within; meaning, our power does not come from politicians, corporate executives, lawmakers, or accountants. Rather, our power comes from within ourselves by having faith and believing that each and every one of us can make a difference. As entrepreneurs, we have the ability to be the primary catalyst for the turnaround of the U.S. economy. Each of us has the power to contribute in meaningful ways to help us dig ourselves out of this economic mess. In essence, the banding together of entrepreneurs brings 37

REGENERATING AMERICA

about the collective strength to create meaningful change. Additionally, we each possess the ability to realize our true human identity, and through doing so, we realize that the answers we are seeking in the outside world already reside within ourselves. This is a demonstration of belief in oneself, which captures the essence of being an eXpansive entrepreneur. Companies can also generate power from within by aligning with the new paradigm of 21st century business, which is to carry out their work in a triple bottom line approach: people, planet, profit. More and more companies are operating within this framework of sustainable business practices. Companies that are transforming in this manner are being led by individuals who have already made this transformation. In essence, companies cannot transform themselves until their leaders do. Generating power from within also comes from choosing to generate and consume energy in responsible ways. We possess the ability to utilize natural resources such as energy from the sun, wind, and water to generate much needed power, thereby leveraging these infinite resources that Mother Nature so graciously provides. The only thing that stands in the way of evolving a regenerative economy is our unwillingness to change. Culture and individual psychology influence our behavior and the economic decisions we make; our attitude and behavior toward the environment is a reflection of this. The application of behavioral economics will assist us in creating a regenerative economy.

Innovative Opportunities The technology economy has delivered wireless remote devices that continue to improve. This has created a new social standard of freedom along with unparalleled capabilities in regards to progressive energy efficiency technologies, as well as evolving non-mortar business models, such as princetongreen.org. Americans are seeking innovative opportunities to work collaboratively, freely, and transparently with clients and colleagues. 38

The Vision of princetongreen.org

Many prefer to have their income be a direct reflection of their own level of performance. We are tired of working so hard for so little. The American dream of owning your own business is coming back to life, yet a lack of money and opportunity, mixed with high levels of fear, are getting in the way. American society has the innovation and expertise to design, manufacture, integrate, and utilize sustainable systems and regenerative resources, providing plentiful opportunities to countless entrepreneurs. As described, our primary demographic group for prospective advisors and partners consists of people that are part of Generation X and Generation Y, as our intent is to build a multitude of diverse local teams, with a mix of older people that have wisdom and experience, and younger people that have a regenerative mindset and are computer savvy. Our secondary demographic group consists of people that are over 50 years of age and are having a difficult time finding work (possibly due to age discrimination).

Defining Our Sales Culture The origin for the core values, beliefs, and attributes that help to define our sales culture comes from the research of human psychology in the workplace, as well as from a belief system recognizing the intangible elements and connectedness of our existence. The core values, beliefs, and attributes of our sales culture of eXpansive entrepreneurs are expressed in the following affirmations: • We believe in ourselves, and value our self-worth. • We carry a belief that we are One human existence interconnected with Nature and the Universe. • We operate our organization in a triple bottom line approach. • We seek to have a large base of motivated women as pg.advisors because women will change the world, as they tend to be more compassionate and intuitive. • We seek to have a large base of returning veterans as pg.advisors 39

Our Vision in Hindsight Our vision extends to the year 2063. By placing the organization and its people in the present tense at that point in time, our vision is for those in the future to be able to reflect, in hindsight, to the actions that were taken by courageous eXpansive entrepreneurs helping to build a regenerative economy. As part of our vision, princetongreen.org is committed to documenting our defining moments through an annual book release. In other words, every year for the next 50 years, princetongreen.org is 41

REGENERATING AMERICA

committed to publishing a book recording our evolution. Each book will highlight significant wins, case studies, the latest innovative technologies, and interviews with clients, advisors and partners, as well as key learnings from mistakes that were made. By 2063, princetongreen.org will have an integrated series of 51 books; this pg.book is the first in the series, capturing our evolution from years 2008-2012. Our intent is for future generations to understand the steps taken and efforts made to transform America, and the global community, to regenerative living supported by the application of behavioral economics. Additionally, our intent of an annual book release is to showcase, acknowledge, and recognize our current-day actions and the people taking them. Through sharing our vision and endeavors, we hope to inspire others to action; action is necessary to manifest our vision into reality.

A Brief Overview of princetongreen.org The foundation of the princetongreen.org business model embraces best practices, melding them with rigorous research from the past and progressive business strategies for the future, to help present-day entrepreneurs manifest the reality of regenerative living in America. Our business opportunity provides an extremely affordable way for budding entrepreneurs to “Make a difference. Make money. through accessing our dynamic business model and supportive infrastructure. We are continually researching and vetting viable solutions for our advisors and partners to sell. Each solution we sell has one solution leader. Each solution leader works with the market leaders and respective sales leader to provide the internal technical and sales support for advisors and partners to excel.

Our Solutions Portfolio We find you money. We save you money. We make you money.TM Our solutions portfolio consists of technologies and services that bridge the 42

way to a new energy economy; currently this includes comprehensive bill audits, EPAct and Cost Segregation building audits, energy and water efficiency building audits, energy procurement, cooling tower management, energy management systems, solar power, and wind power. We continually research and vet technologies, services, and companies to represent, and we only represent the best. The solutions we offer to clients are all geared toward helping them stabilize, improve, and grow their business. We educate them on how to find, save, and make money through deploying innovative conservation and generation solutions. We realize that our overdependence on oil, gas, coal, and nuclear power is a problem, and we are doing something about it. We pride ourselves on bringing viable innovation to the marketplace through pg.advisors and pg.partners, thereby educating decision-makers so they can make informed choices. Education is key for innovation to be embraced.

Proper Expectations A pg.advisor is an eXpansive entrepreneur that is a highly sales talented individual capable of building trust-based relationships with people, possessing the confidence to educate decision-makers, and recommend appropriate business technologies for improving the efficiencies of their buildings. They carry a princetongreen.org business card, and have the ability to build a team of advisors. Advisors are compensated on their individual sales performance, and their team’s sales performance. We are a 100% performancebased organization. There are no employees, as we are all independent contractors building our businesses within the princetongreen.org umbrella. Because sales teams share in commissions generated, natural collaboration exists and synergy flows. As a result, we are a free will culture operating in a self-managed organization. Removing the constraints of fear and control enables the right people to naturally excel and succeed. 43

Our Interview Process for Advisors Our interview process for advisors begins with having candidates purchase and read this pg.book, because it is imperative for new advisors coming into our organization to have a baseline understanding of our vision and business model. The pg.book becomes a self-selector; those that resonate and align with who we are will apply. The next step in our process is for candidates to email careers@princetongreen.org, expressing why the princetongreen.org business model, business strategy, and sales culture are a good fit for who they are. Those selected will be directed to take a sales talent assessment. We recognize that the predictability of success can be measured by understanding the level of sales talent an individual possesses. Sales talent is our primary indicator as to whether a person is the right fit for the pg.advisor role. Those candidates with high sales talent will proceed in the process by having a phone interview with an organizational leader. Lastly, high sales talented candidates will need to be invited to join the team of an existing advisor who is willing to be their mentor. As mentioned, advisors are able to build their teams, with the understanding that they mentor and support those they bring into the organization. In summary, the five selection requirements to become an advisor are: 1. You purchase and read this pg.book to understand who we are and how we operate. 2. You define how and why princetongreen.org is a good fit for who you are by emailing your explanation to careers@princetongreen.org. 3. You score high on our sales talent assessment. 4. You have a phone interview with the appropriate leader. 5. You are mentored by an existing pg.advisor—you will become part of their sales team, and they will help you become successful.

Our Partner Network Partners are external sales companies that simply plug in and sell the princetongreen solutions portfolio to their clients. Partners are independent companies, leveraging the resources of princetongreen.org to help fulfill clients’ needs. They possess the option to position us as a strategic alliance, product line, and in some cases, private label our solutions. There are no fees associated with being a pg.partner. Partners consist of existing companies already operating in the water and energy space, existing companies that wish to expand into these areas, and new start-up companies. There is not a formal interview process for partners, or any associated fees. Rather, they can become a partner so long as they have a pg.market leader sponsor them. As mentioned, market leaders have the ability to build their own partner network, with the understanding that they support the partners within their network. In all cases, becoming a partner with princetongreen.org is as straightforward as it gets. Performance, integrity, fairness, and teamwork are required to maintain their partner status.

and marketing dollars being invested. We share public relations, marketing, and advertising expenses, which helps us to have the most aggressive and lucrative commission plan in the industry. Over 75% of our gross profit margin is paid out directly in commissions—65% to the field and 10% to solution and market leaders. The remaining 25% that is allocated to princetongreen.org also includes even more commissions paid out to sales leaders and organizational leaders. The remaining princetongreen.org dollars go toward our low fixed costs and profits. In essence, princetongreen.org is basically a virtual clearinghouse providing eXpansive entrepreneurs the ability to connect, work collaboratively, and have a systematic, fair, and transparent compensation model in place, making sure everyone is rightfully compensated. The total outlay (beyond the cost of the pg.book) is a mere $200 per year for an entire infrastructure to support you in building your business. These are all of the associated fees for being an advisor with princetongreen.org. However, there is one exception; princetongreen.org is supported through the sales of our advisors and partners. Needless to say, sales performance is a requirement. Any pg.advisor that does not generate at least $5,000 in commissions in a given calendar year (excluding their first partial year) will be charged an additional $300 maintenance fee to cover the cost of their back office operations. If they opt not to pay the maintenance fee, then their at-will contractor agreement will automatically be canceled. As for partners, there are no associated costs for representing our solutions portfolio in the marketplace. Partners simply plug in and sell. [Note that this is our current fee structure, and is subject to change in the future. We didn’t want to create the misconception that there is a gotcha after purchasing this pg.book and applying to our organization. Our fees are ridiculously low for the value received, and this is exactly how we’ve designed our model to be.] 47

REGENERATING AMERICA

Outside of any related princetongreen.org fees, advisors and partners are responsible for their own customary business expenses; including, but not limited to, general liability insurance, auto expenses, business cards, office expenses, meals, and entertainment.

Self Perception We perceive ourselves as a for-benefit organization—which according to a Harvard Business Review article is a “term entrepreneurs are increasingly using to describe organizations that generate earned income but give top priority to an explicit social mission. Caring for the environment is in our blood, and knowing we are helping to heal the planet fuels our sense of mission. We are a strengths-based organization, positioning people to do what they do best every day. We are a virtual organization, thus eliminating costly commuting expenses and pollution. We are a flat organization, working alongside and supporting one another, as there is no corporate hierarchy. Advisors are responsible for themselves and leading their teams, naturally establishing accountability. We are an inverted organization, whereby the leaders are solely focused on supporting the frontline sales efforts of our advisors and partners to best serve our clients. We are a performance-based organization, seeking every way in which to keep our overhead as low as possible, enabling us to have the most aggressive and lucrative compensation model in the industry. And, we are a nearly paperless organization, saving trees whenever possible.

In Summary A large financial investment is NOT required for the right people to build their business within our business. We offer a dynamic and viable business venture with a supportive infrastructure already in place, saving our advisors and partners money and time. Best of all, fear is dramatically reduced because new advisors and partners are becoming 48

The Vision of princetongreen.org

part of a collective network of like-minded eXpansive entrepreneurs, working collaboratively to help each other succeed. We have built our organization’s foundation on trust, integrity, transparency, equality, diversity, and performance. There are no glass ceilings, as there is no limit to how large you can grow your business. There are no subjective human-based evaluations; promotions in the compensation plan are 100% performance-based. Our business model is a hybrid of the best business practices, providing the proper balance of security and independence. As mentioned, our business model is built on rigorous research and best practices. Most of the rigorous research we embrace was conducted by GALLUP—particularly research regarding a strengthsbased organization, talent-based selection, as well as employee and customer engagement. We also embrace behavioral economics research conducted by GALLUP and Dr. Daniel Kahneman (Nobel Laureate, author, and professor at Princeton University), authentic leadership research conducted by Dr. Bruce Avolio (professor at the University of Washington), and Dr. John Sosik (professor at the Pennsylvania State University), as well as trust research from the 2012 Edelman Trust Barometer. Details on the integration of this research into princetongreen.org are reflected in subsequent chapters. The first three chapters of this book address the evolution of a sales culture of eXpansive entrepreneurs focused on building a regenerative economy (ultimate outcome); the complexities of our current times (the problem); and the vision of princetongreen.org (building a bridge to the new energy economy, manifesting the ultimate outcome of a regenerative economy). The subsequent chapters detail the various steps and pathways that lead to a solution. We acknowledge that we do not have all of the answers, and realize there is always more than one solution to a problem. We invite you to explore our solution of building a regenerative future, today. 49
