What a great time to be in the cattle business! We are seeing prices sore and the demand for quality beef is at an all time high. The hype and enthusiasm is contagious and it makes us proud to be in an industry that is so full of excitement December is a great opportunity to select new genetics for your program, the hay is up, the grain is in the bin and the calves have hit an outstanding market. You will notice we have a larger selection of off age females and Lim-Flex genetics listed, as Canadian breeders this in itself makes this offering unique. For the past couple of years we have shifted some calving dates to a fall calving program for two reasons With only Kim and I doing all the calving and day to day work we found it takes a little stress off the daily tasks and more manageable for our moderate calving barn on those cold winter nights. We have also found that our bulls buyers sure appreciate the extra age and maturity on yearling bulls and our fall born females also have that extra reproductive maturity to then go out and excel for a early breeding to suit the January calving customers.
You will notice the name TMCK Durham Wheat throughout the book once again this year This great sire was purchased from Tubmill Creek and his dam, MAGS Strawberry Pie, now resides as a donor at Highland. This 2012 National Champion Bull won the hearts of many people in the showring but has definitely won our heart in the pasture. Several of the feature females in the offering are sired by or carry service to TMCK Durham Wheat` You will also see some new and exciting service sires also. Wulfs Zane was a bull that is owned in partnership with Wulf Limousin,Tubmill Creek Farms and Southern Cattle Co. He is a impressive powerhouse bull with both performance and eye appeal We also purchased Wulfs Zillion Bucks to fill the void of a red walking bull at Highland Stock Farms With a high red bull market we selected Zillion Bucks to breed our red females while adding some style and smoothness of frame and calving ease.
