Hamilton Farms 2013 Bull & Select Female Sale

Page 1

Eighteen years have gone by pretty fast since we held our first ranch bull sale Although it seems like yesterday when we started building this place, reflecting back on this journey that Gail and I have made makes me smile, and makes me wonder, just how did we do it. We built up our cowherd, we built up our facilities, we raised our family, and much of this was done while both of us worked off farm during those initial years. Looking around us now, it makes me feel proud to see how our operation has progressed, and to see that hard work really does pay off Angus cows have enabled us to enjoy what we do, they have backed us when times weren’t so great, and they have allowed us a pretty good lifestyle simply put, we owe everything to our Angus cows We would like to again thank all of our friends, fellow breeders, customers, and supporters for doing business with us over the past 32 years We appreciate you, and we look forward to our next visit

As it turns out, our sale this year lands on Easter Monday, which for some of our customers is a very special day. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause, and we will endeavor to help anyone who is affected by this year’s sale date The bulls and females are available to view anytime you would like to see them, and as usual, we will be hosting an open house on Sunday, March 31, 2013 for anyone who can make it We will also be hosting an additional open house for our friends who have special plans during Easter We invite you to join us on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 to view the sale offering, and enjoy our hospitality and fellowship

Last year we had more requests than ever before for carcass information so this year we have scanned all of the sale bulls and that information will be available prior to the sale on a supplement sheet If you would like to see the scan results, watch our website as we will post the information there as soon as it is available. Videos of every bull and female is also available on our website, but if you would like a DVD of the sale offering, let us know and we will send you one

Kodiak has established himself as one of the leading sires in the Angus industry today He is a proven herd sire that consistently produces the cow mans kind and does so without sacrificing good looks and eye appeal.

Kodiak sold through the 2005 Masterpiece Sale and went to Soo Line Cattle Co and Geis Angus for $45,000 00 for ½ interest His progeny have consistently topped sales held by Soo Line Cattle, Geis Angus, and Hamilton Farms and he is far from being out of date Many sons have sold with hi-lites being HF Tiger 5T, high selling bull at the 07 Hamilton Farms sale for $52,000 00 for ½ interest to Ring Creek Farm, HF El Tigre 28U, high selling bull through the 08 Masterpiece Sale for $82,500.00 for ½ interest to Ring Creek Farm, HF Erica 26T, high selling female at the 07 Hamilton Farms sale for $20,000.00 going to Continental Angus, Dr Gordon Atkins, and Walkerbrae Farms Kodiak’s first 40 calves to sell at auction averaged over $7000 00, his progeny still demand a premium, and this year marks his 5th calf crop to hit the ground Kodiak’s progeny have done well in the show ring as well as the pasture At the 2009 World Angus Forum, Kodiak was awarded ‘Premier Sire” of the Show His son HF Tiger 5T was the Grand Champion Bull, HF El Tigre 28U was Junior Champion Bull, and HF Erica 26T was Champion 2 year old cow/calf pair The latest accomplishment was with Soo Line Cattle Co winning Grand Champion Pen of Bulls at the 2010 National Western Stock Show in Denver with Kodiak sired bulls Never before has a Canadian breeder won this prestigious event let alone a Canadian bred bull being the sire Note his impressive EPD’s for birth, performance and milk! Cows bred to Kodiak typically calve 5 to 10 days early, have low birth weights and wean heavy His daughters have awesome udders with tight attachment, small teats, and longevity to burn There is a reason Kodiak is so popular today he breeds true and he is the cow

T iger is one of our feature herd sires that sold in our 2007 bull sale for a record breaking $52,000 00 for one half interest, going to Ring Creek Farm, Pat and Len Friedel, Fair view, Alberta This bull represents all the qualities that we are looking for in Angus cattle First of all he was born unassisted from a 2 year old female with just a 76 pound birth weight He then performed all summer and weaned off his mom on August 30th with a weight of 830 pounds. He has been admired by many astute cattlemen for his correct structure, appealing muscle shape, and proud character. His dam, HF Echo 84R, is a hard working Freedom daughter from the Echo cow family which has contributed so much to our cow herd In 2008 she again did us proud by weaning her second calf at 880 pounds, a bull calf named HF El T igre 28U who is a carbon copy of T iger El T igre 28U sold at the CWA Masterpiece Sale 2008 to Ring Creek Farm for $82,000 00 for ½ interest El T igre also posted outstanding birth to yearling numbers: BW - 85, 205 Adj Wt - 795 lbs and 365 Adj Wt - 1425 lbs

We feel that the value of Kodiak and T iger’s progeny will be appreciated for their early gestation and calving ease, true and reasonable performance, and correct structure HF T iger 5T has been an important part of Hamilton Farms and Ring Creek Farms program’s and will continue on into the future All indications in his first three calf crops is that T iger will breed true and ver y similar to Kodiak

In 2007 T iger was named Reser ve Senior Bull Calf Champion at the Olds Gold Show, Senior Bull Calf Champion at Farmfair, and Supreme Champion Bull in the ‘Legends of the Fall’ all breeds show at Farmfair, and won Senior Bull Calf Champion at Agribition In 2008 T iger was Grand Champion Bull at Spruce Meadows and Year II Angus Futurity in Olds, Reser ve Grand Champion Bull at Farmfair and Grand

A full brother to Tiger 5T, El Tigre 28U was the high selling bull out of the 2008 Masterpiece Sale going to Ring Creek Farm (Pat, Karen & Len Friedel) of Fairview, AB

Ringing the bell two years in a row with her outstanding production is HF Echo 84R, first as a 2 yr old with Tiger 5T and again as a 3 yr old with El Tigre 28U She weaned off her first calf (Tiger) at 830 lbs, bred back to calve exactly the same time, and came in on Sept 5th with El Tigre weighing 880 lbs All of this was accomplished with no special attention and no creep Quite a feat for this hard working Freedom daughter El Tigre has a low birth weight (85 lbs) that is bred in by his sire, has a dam that is fertile, feminine, beautifully uddered and structurally correct, he has performance that will run with the best of the best, he has EPD’s that couldn’t read any better and best of all he looks like he does His sire HF Kodiak 5R was named Premier Sire at the WAF 2009, which was a great accomplishment More details on Kodiak are mentioned in previous pages, please refer back El Tigre was Bull Calf Champion at Farmfair 2009 and the finalist in the Angus Division of Legends of the Fall He went on to be Senior Yearling Champion to the World Angus Forum 2009 at Spruce Meadows He has attracted a lot of attention by some very keen cattlemen with semen sales to numerous countries overseas such as England, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Australia and some European countries.

T iger 21X was our lead of f and high selling bull in our 2011 sale to Macnab Angus, Mer vin, SK for ½ interest $20,000 00 We are really impressed with T iger 21X’s first calf crop. We used him on heifers and cows and he met all of our expectations. T iger 21X is an outlier in terms of body length, and the extra pounds in his calves comes honestly! HF T ibbie 86K is a C AA Elite Dam and has been one of our top cows over the years

These of f age full sib bulls from HF Erica 25K and Consensus are sure to grab some attention Technically, these bulls are registered as twins but in actual fact, they are embr yo brothers We flushed 25K in 2010 to Consensus and the post flush estrumate did not work and thus she calved these bulls as a result of embr yo ’ s being lef t in They didn’t receive the utmost in care and attention being that they were born out of sync with our program, yet they have developed into ver y impressive herd bulls. With their extra age, they are sure to provide great ser vice for their new owners A full sister sells as Lot 317Z and when you see her in person you’ll gain confidence in the pedigree.

With the exception of the bulls which were shown last fall, the entire bull offering has been developed on a high roughage Total Mixed Ration which has been formulated to maximize nutrition without adding excessive weight gain. Our target for gain on our bulls is approximately 2 5 to 3 pounds/day and we like to see the bulls with moderate flesh, athletic, and ready to go to work for their new owners We know it is ver y difficult to properly appraise cattle with excessive body condition and we feel it is ver y beneficial to you, the buyer, to view the cattle when they are fresh and with visual muscle definition We understand, and pay attention to the fact, that we are in a per formance driven business and we strive to source genetics which will help add pounds to your calves, and leave you with desirable replacement females.

The Mistress cow family is labelled with "consistency and quality!" Mistress 6M (maternal grand dam) is an Elite Cow in the Canadian Angus Assoc and if we gave out gold stars in our herd she would certainly be at the front of the line Being a Tiger daughter, this young female has huge potential, take this opportunity to take home a great one!
