I’m not actually sure if “welcome” is enough?
Come on in, kick your boots off, sit down, let’s pour a coffee (or something better) and have a good ol’ chat. There, that’s better.
That is what all of our friends, family, neighbours and customers deserve after putting up with ALL that we’ve gone through in the last 12-14 months. In saying that, there are crucial lessons that have come out of 2020-2021.
1. Family, and the people in our “circle” have been, and continue to be, the most influential part of everyone’s lives. They keep us grounded, they support us, they drive us, but most importantly, they love.
2. The concept of a locally sourced, domestically developed product for which you can trace the origin is one that our agriculture industry has employed for generations. Over the past few decades, greater attention has been paid to longstanding practices that conserve and protect our land, our most valuable natural resource. Farmers and ranchers have been doing this out of responsibility long before it was “fashionable” and newsworthy to do so. Now it is cool to know the lineage and production methods of how our highly attractive Canadian beef got to our table; I think ranchers have wanted this for years. My point? We have so much to be proud of as Canadian cattlemen and women and supporting each other is best for all of us.
3. The agriculture and agri-food sector has been the gold standard during a world-wide pandemic as a beacon of consistency, steadfastness and integrity. Agriculture feeds the world, it clothes us, it is most viable and highly utilized during a time of such turmoil. And our future has never looked brighter.
If you don’t wake up every morning, grab your cup of coffee and get a smile on your face for being part of something THAT profound, THAT enlightening… then man, I just don’t know what will. A ranch, its simplistic beauty and awe-inspiring nature is the best place in the world to raise a family… to teach the next generation about stewardship and work ethic… to grow your labours. Most importantly, it’s our “happy place”.
Speaking of our “happy place”, our family makes us all happy. There are still four generations living and contributing to the operations of Diamond T Cattle Company on a daily basis. Gramps has officially retired from operations but keeps a keen eye on us from his perch at the kitchen window. Grandma Donna (GG) still volunteers and is the first person to bake a pie for company. Mom and Dad (Roy & Tami) are constantly babysitters and casual labour even if the pay is minimal. Tracy, Rudy, Tyson, Lisa and baby Emma are building up their small herd but find time to be entertainment and alley pushers when needed. Grandma Deb has a large task of supporting Justine’s garden and lending multiple hands when asked.
Then there’s the day-to-day crew. Hiller is comic relief, keeps everyone’s motors running and our social convener. Calynn is our cow-loving, horsecrazy, passionate, family-oriented queen. Rob has taken to driving most of the tractors and Brody isn’t so sure about being the designated “gate opener.” Lastly, Justine is the cow boss, vaccinating, tagging, processing and sorting all the cows so that it gets done correctly and efficiently.
I guess we better talk about the bulls, hey? A bull sale takes about 4 years to plan and prepare for. Sire selection, crop rotation, pasture management, dam production, hospitality, venue prep, calving, raising and developing… just to name a few. So, to say that this particular pen of bulls has been a long time in the making… is an understatement.
The bulls are growthy, better-footed, hairier, thicker-hipped, stouter and more massive than any set before. I know it’s a cliche to say that “this is the best pen of bulls we’ve raised”, but it’s true. Through sire selection, ruthless dam production pressure and an increased focus on optimizing growth development, we truly feel that this is an elite offering of genetics that has something for everyone. We have heard your constructive feedback and positive reinforcement from the past few years and we’ve taken everything into account to make these bulls genetically superior, to better give you what you’ve asked for.
The heifer pen is deeper than ever and it is hard to part with them, as it should be. In fact, I’m surprised I got so many past Rob and Justine down the alley and into the chute to clip them up for picture day. On a number of occasions I heard, “why the heck are we selling this one?”
So please… flip through, enjoy, and we will see you on Tuesday, April 6th, at the ranch. Stop in beforehand, view the offering, tour the cows, come for coffee or feel free to visit with any one of us and/or the talented marketing agents we have on staff. We can’t wait to see you!
Welcome to the Diamond T Cattle Co “Stockmans Choice” Bull & Female Sale hosted by the Gardner/Smith family as it is one of the deepest sets they have offered to date. This family has decades of agriculture history and are very passionate about future success of the industry throughout the country. They’re very involved in community events and they are the type of good-hearted people that you want to do business with. The passion they have for quality purebred genetics is evident as you’ll see throughout this deep offering.
The bulls on offer are designed for longevity and profitability for you, the valued customer. They have brought this set of good footed, sound structured and very complete bulls along to suit the needs of their clientele. We annually see a large amount of repeat customers in this sale and it is a result of the strong genetics and wise management that is provided. The set of heifers on offer is from the top of their replacement pen and showcase many of the sire groups on offer to display the quality type of females you will receive when investing in a Diamond T Bull for you cowherd.
The red and black genetics are deep in quality and the high amount of calving ease bulls are impressive with many cow bulls on offer as well. We encourage you to reach out to Brody, Justine or Rob to discuss the sale offering as their main purpose is to supply you with a bull or female that will compliment your cowherd. Ourselves at BMS are very familiar with the offering, we would gladly assist in purchasing your next bull or heifers if you are unable to attend. We do hope you join us for a strong set of sale cattle and outstanding hospitality put forth by dedicated cattle producers that have your best interest in the forefront.
Best regards,
The Bohrson Marketing Team

SIGHT UNSEEN PROGRAM
With a cow herd, a bull sale, volunteer commitments, scholastic activities and many more life challenges, we very much understand that being everywhere and doing everything just isn’t always possible. In saying that, in an ideal world we want you and your entire family to join the hospitality at our bull sale but if for some unforeseen reason you can’t attend, we want you to feel confident in our program.
Our grandparents have been raising cattle for 50+ years; we’ve been involved since birth, so we understand the fundamental characteristics and achievements that the cowherd at Diamond T strive for and achieve. Our cow herd is built around structural integrity, ease of fleshing, superior fertility, calving ease and the adaptability to thrive in numerous environments. We live with these herd sire prospects and their mothers on a daily basis. We develop their rations, understand the forage intake, study the genotypic balance and potential of the breed. But most of all, we know that the #1 priority is finding the ideal bull for you and your situation.
Our program is very straight forward: give Brody a call in the weeks leading up to our sale to discuss your goals, your cow herd and the requirements you expect your new herd bull to achieve. From that information we gather, we’ll fit you with the bull or bulls that satisfy your requirements, budget and goals all from the comfort of your home, office, shop or truck cab while you’re watching “green tag 938” calve. Please rest assured that our most capable bulls will be specifically selected by Rob, Justine and Brody with all of your suggestions, needs and objectives taken into account.
Bull sale shopping is so streamlined nowadays with the excellent service of companies like Mark Shologan’s DLMS, more advanced EPD metrics through breed associations and increased performance data. That being said, the relationship between you and us is still of the utmost importance. We want you to feel extremely comfortable and trust that we are going to assist you in finding the most suitable and best herd sire for your cow herd. We’re not satisfied until you are and your family is.

SKOCDOPOLE RANCH
This 3rd generation family outfit moved to their current location west of Big Valley in the early 1970’s. Vast rolling hills, coulee bottoms and a ton of rugged bush terrain, their land spans all sides of the Red Deer River. Skocdopole Ranch is all about hard work, family and the ability to produce highly efficient margins. Originally involving Jack & Barb and brother Jerry & Elaine, it now includes their next generation, Jack’s son Tim and Jerry’s boys, Wayne and his wife Holly and Dale and his wife Dianne and their families.
The ranch runs roughly 1500 momma cows that calve in the spring with a large group of replacement heifers starting April 1st. For the past 15 years their cow herd has been predominantly Red & Black Angus-based with a contingent of Charolais bulls as well. Steers calves are all marketed in the spring, selling to local producer Kent Butterfield. Heifer calves are kept, grazed, developed and raised as replacements.
Annually, 1000 acres of corn is planted, grown for both grazing and silage. The Skocdopole family appreciates grazing corn for its high efficiency and ability to decrease the mechanical feeding days significantly in order to maximize margins.
This hard working family is dedicated to the industry and integrates themselves into every facet of farming, ranching and agriculture as both a business and a way of life.
We are proud to call them customers and friends.

DAVY BROTHERS
The Davy Brothers family farming operation east of Olds, AB includes the three brothers Soren, Dan & Butch and their families. After moving from Airdrie, they chose to nestle in the fertile, productive farming community between Torrington and Reed Ranch. The outfit consists of cereal grains and a commercial cow/calf operation that retains females and also markets a large portion of calves privately with significant success based around carcass merit and yield abilities. At this time, the guys are calving out roughly 130 head of momma cows in the spring that are predominantly angus/angus cross females.
“Over the past several years we have had great success with easy calving, tapered bull, both Black & Red Angus, from Diamond T Cattle Co. with higher-than-average weaning weights and great replacement heifers” notes Butch.

There is always lots of excitement down at Diamond T Angus. A record se ng year for feed produc琀on, not just in volume but also in quality. New exci琀ng cow opportuni琀es have found their way west of Olds as well. The cow herd u琀lizes a customized mineral program that is balanced throughout the year. This supports proper bull calf development from a young age. The bull feeding program is built to maximize forage u琀liza琀on and gut health; they are developed on grass with their moms and then moved onto a balanced TMR that promotes lean muscle. The bulls are challenged with a foraged based TMR to help them develop to their gene琀c poten琀al. Organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune func琀on and overall health. Diamond T Angus uses a total nutri琀on program on their en琀re opera琀on, ensuring op琀mal ca琀le performance. If you have any ques琀ons about the nutri琀on of the sale bulls, please feel free to call. Best of luck on sale day!
