SAME SAME, BUT DIFFERENT
As we rapidly approach the climax of the year, it is interesting to look back on our past accomplishments and challenges with a mix of satisfaction, pride and even a bit of the ‘what ifs’.
It can also be a time to think of the opportunities or people we have missed –loved ones, friends or colleagues.
Change can de nitely be challenging, but also exciting to start a new project, job or a chapter in our lives, where we look forward to new opportunities.
I was fortunate enough to move countries, start a new job as the editor of Global Trailer, reconnect with family and friends and make new connections.
One thing that has remained a constant throughout this year is the in uence of Arti cial Intelligence.
e presence, and use of, AI, machine learning and large language models (LLMs) is now so ingrained in our lives that we take it for granted and don’t realise, or appreciate, the extent to which we are using it.
AI has become so ubiquitous that even the simplest of tasks, like sending a text or typing on our laptops, has become easy with predictive text. We can be forgiven for taking it for granted, as it basically rules our lives.
e MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics’ Executive Director, Chris Caplice, described it in a novel way, saying “AI is a moving target”. He said AI is “not sitting still, it’s aspirational” and is “always
that thing that exceeds our grasp”. With new iterations of, and new uses for, AI cropping up all the time, it is always with us! In transport logistics, or supply chain management, it is rapidly becoming the norm with companies embracing it to enhance the production and delivery of goods.
A 2025 transport market report by the Descartes Systems Group found that 96 per cent of those companies surveyed used generative AI in their business operations, but interestingly, over one-third of them still used manual processes. is will certainly change in the future.
Reading our Market Report on trailer security you will realise how rapidly AI is incorporated into trailer bodies at the factory oor – from security and locking features to tyre pressure, geofencing and telematics. Now, workshops and maintenance bays will feature tablets next to wrenches and sockets.
A common saying I heard a lot when I lived in Dubai was that things were ‘same same, but di erent’, meaning that something was almost the same as before, but was slightly changed, o en for the better. is is the case with AI, making life the same but di erent. It’s time we grab it by both hands and use it to improve our lives as we move forward to another year of opportunities.

Trailer builder, CIMC Vehicles, posted solid half-year results for 2025 and is embracing the innovative transformation of its business.
For H1 2025, the OEM reported revenue of 9.75 billion CNY (approx. € 1.1 billion), a gross profit of 1.46 billion CNY (approx. €173.7 million) and 930 million CNY (approx. €11 million) in net cash generated from operating activities.
These results reflect the company’s ongoing transformation into an ‘Entire-Value Chain’ operator for its Star-Chained semi-trailer business, which entered the second phase of its development plan (IMP2) this year.
In China, semi-trailer sales rose 10 per cent year-on-year, with revenue up 11 per cent and operating profit jumping 74 per cent.
Efficiency also improved, with per capita output up 20 per cent and labour costs per trailer down 15 per cent.
CIMC Vehicles’ global operations delivered broad-based growth. In the Global South, sales rose 13 per cent and profitability surged, driven by a 44 per cent sales increase in Thailand and a 270 per cent revenue jump in Vietnam.
In Australia, sales were up 16.4 per cent with gross margins improving by 2.3 percentage points, while Europe maintained resilience, with UK subsidiary SDC posting revenue growth of 8.7 per cent despite weak market recovery.
North America delivered nearly 8,000 units under challenging conditions, with Vanguard Parts continuing its growth momentum.
The company’s EV·DTB business also reported strong performance, generating 868 million CNY (approx. €103.2 million) in revenue. Demand across all three product lines rose sharply: dump trucks up 142 per cent, mixer trucks up 86 per cent, and refrigerated trucks up 70 per cent year-on-year.
CIMC also continued to push into the electric tractor-trailer segment, accelerating development of its ‘Hannover Project’ and preparing to showcase its latest innovations at the Wuhan Auto Show.
Looking ahead, CIMC Vehicles said it will deepen the Star-Chained and Big Leap Plans, strengthen its intercontinental operations to become a ‘borderless enterprise’, and accelerate the rollout of integrated electric tractor-trailer products. .

DUBAI-BASED TRAILER OEM PUTS ITS RAPID EXPANSION IN THE MENA TRAILER MARKET TO ITS 3PS - PRICING, PLANNING, AND PEOPLE. WITH GROWTH TO MATCH THAT OF ITS HOST CITY – DUBAI – CEO ADEL MIR CAN ADD ‘PARTNER’ AND ‘PROGRESS’ TO THAT LIST.
Having arrived in the burgeoning city of Dubai more than 30 years ago and looking for a completely new start with his commerce degree, Adel Mir knows what it’s like to be given a chance to succeed.
at is why, since joining NAZ Industries in 2021, he has maintained a strong focus on the people in the business.
“Our rapid growth is built on three fundamental pillars, which we call the 3P s - Pricing, Planning, and People,” said CEO, Adel Mir.
“Our success stems from getting these elements right — maintaining accurate pricing and costing, implementing robust planning and budgeting, and most importantly, investing in our people, the true driving force of the company.”
Combined with hard work and dedication, Adel Mir has seen NAZ Industries grow to become a $100 million-plus entity (€85.5

million), employing 427 professionals, including engineers, designers, technicians, welders, and skilled workers.
“ ey form the backbone of our operations,” said Adel Mir.
“Our team’s collective expertise and commitment are the key drivers behind our reputation for quality and reliability.”
Mir proudly shares the company’s intention to increase its workforce to 670 members as it seeks to multiply its long-term production targets. e CEO is also grateful for the support of the UAE, which saw the genesis of the trailer builder, growing from the MAMMUT brand that was formed in 1996, to where it stands today - one of the few trailers manufacturers in the region that produces over 60 di erent industry products.
Mir attributes this early success to two traits o en associated with the UAE - speed and exibility.
“We have quick turnarounds in design and production which gives us the strength to tailormake products and body solutions to meet diverse industry needs,” he said.
“As a result, we have a proven record of building robust trailers suitable for tough regional conditions, such as heat, terrain and heavy loads. is has resulted in NAZ Industries being recognised with a 2024 industry award as one of the best truck body builders in the region.
With the legacy of the MAMMUT trailer brand, the team at NAZ Industries has excelled in the competitive trailer market due to a belief that its products should stand as a symbol of safety, durability, and reliability.
“Our philosophy is simple - build with integrity, innovate with purpose, and always put the customer rst,” said Mir.
He added that, as a result, the company is deeply committed to its mantra of ‘Engineered for Excellence, Built to Last’ for every trailer and truck body.
In addition to trailers, NAZ Industries produces a wide range of truck-mounted bodies, including tippers, tankers, and aerial/crane platforms, enabling the company to cater to multiple industries, such as construction, logistics, oil & gas, and food & beverage. is diversi ed approach to products and
partners creates a sturdy foundation for the company to weather any ongoing geopolitical and economic developments, Mir said.
“Our long-term vision remains rmly set on scaling production to 12,000 units annually, and we continue to make steady progress toward that goal,” he said.
Currently, NAZ Industries manufactures more than 350 trailer and body-mounted products each month, equating to about 4,200 per annum - from atbeds, tippers, and low-beds to fuel tankers, bulkers, refrigerated trailers, and specialised equipment.
It now manufactures more than 60 types of standard and specialised products for use in the GCC, MENA and beyond.
e broad-brush approach to products has also been implemented with NAZ’s global sourcing strategy, ensure the highest quality, durability, and cost-e ciency in its products.
Components, such as axles, suspensions, braking systems, rims and hydraulics are sourced from leading international suppliers in Europe, while steel and structural materials are procured both locally and regionally to maintain agility and cost competitiveness.
As a result, its portfolio of suppliers is a who’s who of the commercial transport world, ranging from SAF Holland, Fuwa and BPW for axles, to Knorr Bremse and Wabco brakes, Jost, Trilex, Bridgestone tires, Longmarch, Moro and Gorman pumps and Aspöck lighting.
“By combining trusted global brands with reliable regional suppliers, we ensure that every NAZ trailer meets international standards of performance, safety, and reliability,” said Adel Mir.
“ is synergy allows us to deliver trailers that are durable, reliable, and innovative.”
e result is a burgeoning database of clients from a wide cross-section of industries that rely on safe and e cient transport solutions.
ese cover construction companies, logistics providers, oil & gas and energy

operators, waste management rms, and food & beverage distributors across the region. e customers include large eet operators, government entities, and specialised businesses requiring tailor-made trailer and truck body solutions.
“What sets our relationships apart is the long-term trust we build — many of our clients return to us because of our consistent quality, reliability, and ability to deliver products that meet their exact operational needs,” said Mir.
While maintaining strong links to its 30-year foundational base of the UAE, seen as its strongest and most important market, NAZ Industries has expanded its client list to encompass the whole of the GCC and beyond the Gulf region to include the broader MENA region, as well as western and East Africa.
“Leveraging Dubai’s strategic position as a global logistics hub, we are also extending our footprint into Asia and other emerging markets,” said Mir.
To accommodate its growing international market, NAZ has adopted a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) strategy, whereby trailers are shipped in parts and assembled in the destination country.
is reduces shipping costs and enables the company to establish localised production partnerships, ensuring faster delivery and stronger service support.
NAZ Industries’ client-focused approach has paid o handsomely, with customers ecstatic with the nished product.
A highlight has been its partnership with SKA Global, where that client con rmed the trailers stood up exceptionally well to various challenges, while a delivery of custommade NAZ Tippers mounted on Daewoo Trucks in collaboration with United Diesel, were lauded for being built precisely to the client’s requirements.
e company also takes immense pride in supplying 103 units of 45-tonne multipurpose cargo trailers for transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza.
To accommodate the growing demand for NAZ trailers, the company’s manufacturing facility is based in a roughly 30,000 square metre space in a section of the Dubai Investment Park,

housing state-of-the-art production lines, fabrication areas, assembly bays, and quality testing units.
As part of its vision to increase annual production capacity towards 12,000 units, the company is planning to expand the current facilities with increased oor space and more advanced manufacturing technology.
In addition, NAZ Industries has another 40,000 square metre plot in Sharjah’s Hamriyah Free Zone Authority under construction.
NAZ Industries has experienced a growth rate of over 70 per cent in recent years, re ecting its expanding product portfolio and increasing demand across the GCC and Middle East markets.
With 2024 revenue of approximately $106 million (€91 million), the company has continued to sustain strong momentum throughout 2025, with an estimated growth rate of about 15 per cent. is growth is fuelled by the introduction of new trailer models, expansion into additional regional markets, and operational e ciencies gained through strategic partnerships.
“ is nancial stability allows us to continue investing in advanced manufacturing technologies, expanding our production capacity, and developing innovative solutions for our clients,” said Adel Mir. e company has signi cantly strengthened its production capabilities by investing in new sophisticated equipment & machinery, expanded its product portfolio by adding special purpose trailers for the energy sector, and entered new markets, such as Jordan, Syria and Senegal.
It has also introduced new specialised trailer models and body-mounted products tailored to meet the road regulations for countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Adel Mir said the company’s success has not been by chance, but due to a concerted and holistic approach to all elements of the business, including quality products, proper planning, strong partnerships and investing in people.
“Overall, NAZ today is stronger, more agile, and more future-ready than ever before,” he said. e result is the company being recognised as the Best Body Builder in the Region in 2024, by CPI media and being certi ed as a Great Place to Work with an employee approval rating of 95 per cent.
Like Dubai and the UAE, the company has no plans to slow down in the coming ve to ten years.

Adel Mir said the strategy is to consolidate NAZ Industries as one of the leading trailer and truck body manufacturers in the Middle East and Africa, with a growing footprint into Asia, consistently achieving 12,000 units annually.
“KSA and Iraq are the two countries that we want to present directly in the market, and we plan to build production facilities in addition to our expansion plans in UAE,” he said.
“We also aim to drive product innovation, with a strong emphasis on sustainability — introducing lighter, more fuel-e cient trailers, and preparing for the future of electric and alternative-fuel transport solutions.”
Mir said that digitisation and smart technologies will play a central role in its future operations, ensuring e ciency, traceability, and enhanced customer value.
Its long-term vision is to position NAZ as a global brand from Dubai, recognised for quality, reliability, and innovation.
ere is also the aim to grow its market footprint in the GCC and MENA regions and maintaining its long-term agreement with a reputable steel structure manufacturing company that supplies trailer chassis as per Naz’s own designs.
“ ese developments will enable us to meet growing demand while maintaining the high standards of quality and reliability that de ne NAZ Industries,” said Mir.
“Ultimately, our goal is to expand NAZ Industries not just in size, but also in innovation, reliability, and global reach.”
One aspect of the trailer market the company is taking advantage of is trade shows and exhibitions, having featured in a number of international events across the Middle East.
These platforms afford the company the opportunity to showcase its latest trailer and truck body solutions.
“ e outcomes were very positive. We generated strong leads across the GCC and Africa, established new strategic partnerships, and strengthened our visibility as a leading trailer manufacturer in the region,” said Mir.
“We plan to continue exhibiting at major regional and international events as part of our long-term growth strategy.”
With the cargo trailers and semi-trailer markets for the Middle East projected to reach 615,000 units by 2035, with a value of $11.9 billion USD (€10.2 billion), and increased construction and infrastructure activities, NAZ Industries is well-placed to service the growing markets of Saudi Arabia and the GCC.
“ e rapid growth of the Middle East, particularly in the UAE and KSA, has had a signi cant in uence on our strategy,” said Mir.
“Rising demand for high-quality trailers and truck bodies has prompted us to expand our production capacity, diversify our product portfolio, and introduce specialised models to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
“We have also strengthened strategic partnerships and optimised our operations to ensure faster turnaround times without compromising on quality.
“ is dynamic market environment encourages us to stay innovative, responsive, and future-ready, ensuring that NAZ continues to lead as a trusted partner in the region.” e company is also eyeing expansion into the Africa market, which it sees as a strategic represents growth sector.
“With many countries across the continent investing heavily in infrastructure, logistics, and industrial development, the demand for reliable and durable transport solutions continues to rise,” said Mir.
NAZ Industries has maintained a presence in Africa since the early 2000s, establishing a solid footprint in key regions, particularly in East and West Africa.
It has supplied more than 1,000 trailers to markets such as Sudan, Yemen, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.
“Our (future) focus is on providing solutions that strike the right balance between quality, longevity, and cost-e ciency, enabling us to support the continent’s rapid development and the evolving needs of its transport and logistics sector,” said Mir.
Other markets, such as east Asia, Europe, and North America are not on the company’s immediate radar, mainly due to high logistics and shipping costs of exporting fully assembled trailers. However, Mir said there was strong potential for future partnerships with localised, in-country investors, so as to ship products in CKD condition for local assembly.
“We are actively studying these opportunities to expand our global reach in a sustainable way,” he said.
For now, NAZ Industries sees its best opportunities in the growth of trailer demand across

the GCC, Middle East, and Africa, due to expanding infrastructure, construction, oil & gas, and energy sectors that are driving strong demand for specialised and customised trailers.
However, it also pays to be attuned to industry and global trends, including a focus on sustainability.
NAZ is nding customers are seeking lighter, more fuel-e cient designs and growing interest in electric and alternative-fuel solutions.
It also sees digitalisation growing in demand as eet operators increasingly demand trailers equipped with telematics, tracking systems, and smart safety features to improve e ciency and compliance.
NAZ is already addressing another growing trend in its production facility – that of specialised or customised trailers for speci c industries, such as the oil & gas, and energy sectors.
ere is also growing competition from low-cost manufacturers, uctuations in raw material prices, regulatory requirement and the ongoing geopolitical status in the Middle East as variables impacting the trailer market.
“ ese are all present hurdles that we must navigate carefully, however, by focusing on quality, reliability, and strategic partnerships, we are well-positioned to turn these challenges into opportunities and continue our growth trajectory,” said Mir.
At NAZ Industries, innovation is at the core of its operations, incorporating simulationbased engineering to transform the design and testing of trailers.
“By digitally validating durability and safety before production, we’re able to deliver stronger, safer, and more e cient products,” said Adel Mir.
As a result, it has a dedicated R&D division focused on materials engineering, regulatory compliance, and performance validation.
With more than 60 di erent products in the market, the company must have R&D to build what their clients need, Mir said.
“Our customers operate in high-stakes industries; from oil & gas to heavy logistics, where safety, e ciency, and compliance are non-negotiable,” he said.
“Innovation allows us to reduce operating costs, extend product life, and align with sustainability goals. It also helps us stay ahead of regulatory shi s and market needs.”
Recent innovative projects include re-engineered trailers that underwent both Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and extensive real-world trials, as well as the development of NAZ’s mobile brake testing innovation.
e company’s R&D division also integrates safety engineering and ensures all processes align with international standards, embedding quality, sustainability, and operator safety into every design.
Some of its latest innovations that combine advanced engineering with customer-driven problem-solving, include:
• A mobile brake testing unit developed entirely in-house, which eliminates the need for vehicles to be transported to the test station in tra c control department.
• MSS trailers for heavy-duty power transmission, supporting national energy infrastructure.
• Re-engineered 23 CBM Tippers and 30T Flatbeds, redesigned for Saudi Arabia’s new road regulations, with improved aerodynamics, higher payload capacity, and reduced carbon impact.
• 20 multifunctional water tankers designed and manufactured for re ghting, ordered by the Municipality of Iraq.
Of particular pride to the company is its 52 cubic metre Cement Bulker semi-trailer, which Mir said stands as a benchmark in bulk material transport.
“It is engineered with advanced safety systems, high-strength materials, and unique design elements tailored to the demanding conditions of the Middle East,” he said.
“While our broader portfolio includes tipper trailers, atbeds, and lowbeds, this Cement Bulker demonstrates our commitment to combining performance, safety, and e ciency in highly specialised transport equipment.”
e unit is equipped with ve 11-tonne axles, featuring a combination of auto-li and steerable
axles, an uncommon and valuable feature in the Middle East market, ensuring superior manoeuvrability and optimised tire wear.
e bulker incorporates an advanced Electronic Braking System (EBS) with Rollover Stability Program (RSP), reducing the risk of accidents during transport and safeguarding both the cargo and road users.
“Together, these features position the Cement Bulker as a highly reliable, safe, and e cient solution for bulk material logistics, reinforcing our engineering expertise and commitment to setting new benchmarks in trailer design,” said Mir.

TRANSPORT ORGANISATIONS ARE INCREASINGLY RELIANT ON TELEMATICS TO MEET BUSINESS, SAFETY, COMPLIANCE AND MANAGEMENT OUTCOMES. THIS REPORT EXAMINES THE SECURITY LIFECYCLE OF A TRAILER, HIGHLIGHTING THE PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL MEASURES DEPLOYED AT EACH STAGE OF PRODUCTION, DELIVERY AND OPERATION.
As consolidation sweeps through the international trailer manufacturing industry; attention is shi ing from sheer production capacity to something equally critical: asset security. From the factory oor to the freight yard, ensuring the safety, integrity and traceability of high-value trailers has never been more complex or more urgent.
e Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), which helps members minimise losses to their supply chains resulting from cargo the s, said that research found cargo crime in Europe costs businesses more than €8.2 billion per annum.
TAPA also found from additional research that businesses in Germany su ered cargo losses and damages exceeding €2.2 billion a year from an estimated 26,000 annual attacks on trucks.
In light of such data, trailer security, and the related cargo safety, is a paramount consideration for OEMs when trailer bodies are readied for the market.
Hence, current trailer design is increasingly focused on embedding security features at the point of manufacture.
One aspect of trailer building, which is becoming crucial to the industry is the installation of smart locks and associated digital access control.
Commercial smart trailer locks use wireless communication, like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, to enable remote locking and unlocking, via smartphone apps, control access using PINs or biometrics, and track lock activity for enhanced cargo security and management.
e smart locks, are o en made of stainless steel and are remotely controlled via a telematics system, are replacing traditional systems, such as tie wraps, disposable bolts and padlocks, which can be easily damaged by the and tampering.
ey easily integrate with eet management systems, allowing for geofencing-based automation and register immediate alerts for unauthorised attempted unlocking, providing signi cant bene ts in terms of the deterrence, operational e ciency, and driver safety compared to traditional mechanical locks.
ere are also biometric locks to authenticate users through ngerprints or facial recognition, which are extremely helpful with GPS tracking Electronic locks use digital codes or RFID technology for secure access control. Digital codes require unique input, while RFID uses radio frequency signals to automatically unlock the lock with authorised tags.

According to industry research company, Market Intelo, the global trailer smart lock market was valued at $1.2 billion USD (€1.03 billion) in 2024 and is forecasted to reach $4.3 billion USD (€3.67 billion) by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 15.2 per cent.
“ e integration of IoT technologies and the proliferation of connected devices have transformed traditional trailer security, facilitating real-time monitoring, remote access, and enhanced control over valuable cargo,” the report said.
It said the increased adoption of smart locks was driven by digital transformation of business and economies.
“ e market is further buoyed by the rising incidence of cargo the , stricter regulatory requirements, and the need for operational e ciency in supply chain management,” it said.
As a result of AI merging with cloud computing and greater mobile connectivity, trailer manufacturers are now able to provide smart locks with biometric authentication, geofencing,

tamper alerts, and integration with eet management systems, particularly in logistics and transportation, the report said.
“ ese innovations are not only enhancing security but also providing actionable insights for eet optimisation and compliance,” the research report found.
“ e smart lock for trailers market is witnessing a wave of strategic partnerships and collaborations between technology providers, OEMs, and logistics companies.
“ ese alliances are aimed at developing integrated solutions that address the evolving needs of end-users, such as seamless connectivity, interoperability, and scalability.”
Now, with the secure locks being developed comes trailer door lock telematics to monitor the status of trailer door locks in real-time and o ering insights into lock usage patterns and potential security breaches, ensuring that cargo remains secure in transit, the report said.
e research also found that North America, and particularly the US, leads the smart lock for trailers market with the highest adoption rate – about 38 per cent of the global market share.
It also found that the Asia Paci c region is projected to register the highest CAGR (18.7 per cent) for trailer smart locks up to 2033, due to rapid urbanisation, booming e-commerce, and signi cant investments in transportation infrastructure in countries, such as China, India, and Japan.
In 2022, Schmitz Cargobull introduced its TL4 door locking system o ers safety for cargo and drivers.
is system sees a trailer with an electronic door lock control system that ensures goods are protected against unauthorised access.

e smart safety function, in combination with Schmitz Cargobull’s TrailerConnect telematics solution, enables users to automatically control the door locking system.
Via the TrailerConnect portal, users can de ne loading and unloading locations where the door locking system automatically unlocks the trailer on arrival or locks it when leaving. Geofence-areas only need to be con gured once in the TrailerConnect portal. Furthermore, once the trailer door has been closed, a general automatic lock can be activated at the touch of a button in the TrailerConnect portal or beSmart app.
Once con gured in the TrailerConnect portal, risks are minimised and manual work as part of the transport process is reduced. All locking and unlocking processes are fully documented and can provide proof that the trailer was locked continuously during the entire transport.
In addition, tamper-proof seals featuring embedded sensors can alert dispatchers to unauthorised access, while temperature and vibration sensors detect mishandling.
Trailers can now be geofenced directly from the factory, as the system creates a virtual boundary around a real-world location, using GPS and other location technologies to trigger actions or send noti cations when a GPS-enabled device enters or leaves the de ned area.
Smartphones or vehicle trackers are used to determine a trailer’s location.
Geofencing’s bene ts include enhanced security by detecting unauthorised movement, improved operational e ciency through real-time arrival/departure noti cations, proactively alerting facilities of an incoming vehicle.
Schmitz Cargobull has implemented geo-fencing capabilities in its S.KO COOL SMART box body semi-trailers so that the box body semi-trailer can only be opened within a speci ed radius.
Its TrailerConnect telematics functions allow transporters and operators to monitor
safety-relevant freight at all times and react in a timely manner as required.
Other in-built trailer security measures include component serialisation and traceability using RFID tags and QR codes that are embedded in chassis components to ensure full traceability in case of the or tampering.
Anti-theft devices, from wheel locks to immobilisers and panic-response systems, are gaining popularity as eets are investing heavily in multi-layered deterrents.
With trailer, transport and logistics safety a multi-billion-dollar global issue, coupled with the increased use of AI and machine learning in monitoring, leading OEMs are partnering with secure logistics providers to maintain detailed handover logs and GPS-tagged delivery con rmations to preserve and maintain chain of custody protocols and ensure safety of goods.
To this extent there has been a growth in the use of devices to enable drivers and eet managers to track handover points and verify identity through secure mobile platforms, o en integrated with trailer telematics.
When trailers enter active duty, security becomes a shared responsibility between OEMs, eet managers, and drivers. is stage introduces
the broadest range of threat vectors—from opportunistic the to insider sabotage.
TIP Group’s ‘DoorPlus’ solution provides additional security through its ‘door open sensors’ devices, which notify a monitoring system whether doors are open or closed. DoorPlus can detect door movements through a magnet attached to the door, linking to TIP’s FleetBeatCooler telematics device.
e system also detects and reports, in real time, changes in reefer temperatures and damaged trailer doors.
Commercial vehicle telematics combines telecommunications, informatics and GPS positioning to monitor vehicle data which is shared with centralised fleet management systems.
Telematics also enables comprehensive tracking and analysis of the vehicles, as well as driver behaviour. ere are now several telematics options for con guring door sensors, geo-fences, and alarms to identify unauthorised access or usage of assets.
TIP Group sees telematics as providing several solutions for the trailer market.
It says, by having all relevant information in one place, operators can respond faster, make consistent decisions, and shi from reactive problem-solving to proactive eet management.
“We want customers to have all their insights in one place, whether they use our platform or connect via API to their own,” said TIP’s Operations Leader Digital Services, Christian Payne.
US-based OEM, Utility, has wholeheartedly adopted trailer telematics and tracking, integrating the Schmitz Cargobull TrailerConnect system.
e telematics platform gives eet managers, dispatchers, and truck drivers access to real-time, actionable data—all in one place, integrating IOT sensors and data from various third-party applications, providing a complete, real-time view of a company’s eet.
e trailer agnostic program enables dry vans, atbeds and reefers across a eet’s entire trailer portfolio to be tracked and monitored.
OEM, Krone Trailer sees telematics as a means to make trailer management digital and simple. Krone’s smart operating system for trailers, the
‘KRONE Smart Assistant’, optimises logistics processes, where each trailer is equipped with an individual QR code, scanned to enable drivers to go to a digital interface, via a messenger service, such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Viber.
As a result, eet managers and workshops are automatically informed of any damages or issues and can respond immediately.
In addition, legally compliant digital departure checks can be completed directly on the trailer using a smartphone.
e system automatically documents the results and even provides the driver with a PDF con rmation. Another special feature is mobile document access on the go – meaning that operating instructions, registration, maintenance records or ATP certi cates can be accessed digitally at any time.
With its mykrone.blue, Krone also provides a new platform for digital trailer management.
“We built mykrone.blue because the market needs simple, e ective solutions – not big words. Our customers want to know: Is my trailer running? Is it safe? What does downtime cost? at’s exactly why we provide the right tools with Smart Assistant and mykrone.blue – ready for immediate use, with measurable bene ts,’ said mykrone.blue GmbH Managing Director, Maximilian Birle.
“We link data, services and interaction right down to the workshop world along the entire trailer life cycle – with a single goal: the best TCO with maximum uptime.”
With more than 1,700 partner workshops across Europe, the service o ers standardised interfaces to leading TMS, ERP and telematics systems, and a modular e-commerce area for 24/7 contract management and service booking.
idem telematics, part of the BPW Group, o ers what it sees as a specialised telematics service for the trailer market.
idem Managing Director, Jens Zeller, said: “Transport companies mainly operate mixed eets with a wide variety of vehicle types and brands. When it comes to trailers and swap bodies, the combination possibilities are almost limitless.
“Transport companies want to maintain their independence and not be dominated by individual manufacturers.
“We enable transport companies to get started with trailer telematics safely and, on this basis, to develop individually. We also integrate third-party systems. ere is practically no hardware or so ware interface that we cannot integrate.”
For the rst time, using idem telematics’ devices, signals from doors, refrigeration units and tyres can be processed and controlled wirelessly and without intermediate devices (‘hubs’). “Truck-trailer telematics o ers enormous potential for increasing safety and e ciency in transport. is bene ts not only transport companies, drivers

and their customers, but also the environment and climate,” said Jens Zeller.
“In the future, telematics connectivity should become as standard in trailers as brakes and rear lights.”
e Wielton Group sees its ABERG Connect system, which integrates modern driver assistance systems, semi-trailer technical monitoring and telematic eet management, as the ideal response to the TSL market needs for increased e ciency, reduced downtime, and improved road safety.
Global logistics provider, Maersk, reported in its Logistics Trend Map 2025, that real-time tracking and automated eet management have become “must-haves”.
“Real-time tracking empowers businesses to respond quickly to disruptions, streamline communication, and build customer trust,” Maersk stated.
“Logistics Service Providers are investing in creating more visibility in signals from containers and trucks tted with IoTs, robotics in warehouses and more.”
According to a 2024 Maersk survey cyber security was ranked 6th out of the top 15 trends by corporate decision makers.
Cyber security is critical for logistics, as rising digitalisation exposes the industry to growing cyber threats, Maersk reported.
According to Maersk, this was clearly highlighted during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the maritime sector experienced a 400 per cent spike in cyber-attacks.
e National Motor Freight Tra c Association’s (NMFTA) 2025 Trucking Cybersecurity Trends Report stated that “cybersecurity is poised to become one of the most pressing challenges eets will face”. “With the rise of arti cial intelligence (A I)enhanced phishing campaigns, increasingly sophisticated cyber-enabled cargo the , and the rapid evolution of machine learning-based defence mechanisms, the landscape is shi ing in ways that demand attention,” the report said.
KRONE is a leader in developing telematics systems.
Image: KRONE Trailer.

“ reat actors are becoming more adept at exploiting vulnerabilities faster and more intelligently, leveraging advanced tools that make phishing, malware creation, and impersonation scams harder to detect and prevent.
“At the same time, cybersecurity solutions are evolving to meet these challenges, from enhanced threat detection to widespread adoption of ZeroTrust architectures and application programming interface (API) security.”
It said 2025 will see an increased utilisation of advanced evasive techniques, such as delayed phishing to avoid detection by the most advanced secure email gateways (SEGs) and other email security tools.
“With advances in large language models (LLMs) and other AI technology, phishing campaigns are increasingly di cult to detect. Deferred malicious links also continue to pose threats in phishing and credential the schemes,” the report said.
With eets using the Internet of ings in a greater capacity, the report said 2025 would be marked by eets needing to apply best practices from Industrial Control Systems (ICS) by sourcing and deploying products with good cybersecurity controls baked into their design.
It said they would also need to take responsibility for deploying and con guring them with cybersecurity as a priority.
Despite OEM’s prioritising security and greater adaptation in heavy commercial vehicles of standards for onboard and connected systems, such as those issued by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO), there is still an issue of a lack of transparency into devices and a lack of user control of core security settings, the report said.
Hence, there would be greater pressure from the trucking and supply chain industry to move the OEM community toward increased transparency and continued focus on Secure by Design architecture.
Gartner’s industry analysis found that “since the release of Gen AI, attackers are increasingly employing tools along with large language models (LLMs) to carry out large-scale social engineering attacks, and by 2027, 17 per cent of total cyberattacks/data leaks will involve generative AI.”
Increases in cloud security solutions space

to combat cyber security attacks could result in the combined market for cloud access security brokers (CASB) and cloud workload protection platforms (CWPP) reaching an estimated $8.7 billion USD (€7.4 billion) in 2025, up from $6.7 billion (€5.7 billion) in 2024, according to Gartner.
With North America’s trucking industry being increasingly hit by cyber security attacks, bodies, such as the National Motor Freight Tra c Association, is helping eets increase their cyber security measures.
However, the concerns for the American transport industry, which is a key economic and employment provider, are not just from external sources.
With the merger and acquisition of eet operators comes a list of associated threats, including sta turnovers, disgruntled employees and misaligned IT systems can create gaps in access controls, making insider the harder to detect.
Furthermore, industry consolidation in a

volatile transport industry, can unsettle established processes, particularly in depot security, enabling criminals to gain access to valuable assets.
An additional consideration in a merger or acquisition of transport companies is that newly acquired sites may not meet the security standards of parent companies, especially in developing markets.
Ultimately, the trailer and truck sectors will continue to be faced with numerous challenges and threats, and the most valid and appropriate response is to meet these head-on through the proactive and early adoption of security measures, from the factory oor to the highway.

Tyllis Oy Ab, a leading manufacturer of tailor-made transport solutions for over 60 years, has proven that innovation is deeply embedded in its DNA, as it embraces robotic welding to secure a competitive edge.
As one of the rst trailer builders in the northern market, Kokkola, Finlandbased Tyllis has embraced Robot Welding As A Service (RWAAS) and Automatic Robot Programming (ARP), provided by the Valk Welding o ce in Finland, enabling it to respond faster to client and industry needs, while strengthening its competitive position.
From pioneer to frontrunner
Tyllis is renowned for its high-quality, customer-speci c transport solutions, ranging from semi-trailers and crane trucks to special truck bodies.
Such is its grasp of innovation and automation that Tyllis already boasts 12 years of experience in robotic welding.
However, due to traditional o ine programming posing as a major hurdle, in recent years the pace of robotisation in its production has slowed signi cantly. is blockage was to be expected in the trailer production environment, where oneo builds are almost exclusively made. As a result, programming a welding robot o en took more time than the welding itself. is made the use of robots for small series or unique products economically less attractive and viable for the Tyllis team.

Fresh approach with RWAAS
Valk Welding has been supplying ‘all-inone’ welding robot systems for over 45 years, including welding wire, so ware, consumables and service.
It sees this approach as o ering total solutions to clients that consist of three components - the robot, the construction and a so ware package.
As a result, everything the client needs in its operations is provided from one reliable source.
With its specialised, one-stop-shop of RWAAS, Valk Welding o ers a complete robotic welding system, including service, training, and support, for a xed monthly fee. Even the welding wire is fully included.
As a result, the investment threshold for companies like Tyllis is signi cantly lowered, allowing companies to adapt exibly to their production demands.
For Tyllis, it meant the team could start using the latest technology without a large capital outlay.
ARP changes the game
e real breakthrough for Tyllis came with the introduction of Automatic Robot Programming (ARP).
is Valk Welding technology automatically analyses 3D CAD, or STEP les, then recognises welding seams and determines the optimal welding sequence and robot positions.
e end result is basically a robot that programs itself.
Where previously each new product required a time-consuming programming process, ARP now makes it possible to weld even single-piece products e ciently.
e size, or quantity, of a batch of products needing welding no longer matters in the ARP process.
For Tyllis, this process removed the largest barrier to robotisation, opening the door to much broader use of robotic welding in their production cycles.
e collaboration with Valk Welding Finland moved at remarkable speed, proving to be a crucial green ag for Tyllis to adopt both RWAAS and ARP.
e dynamism and energy of the Valk Welding team gave Tyllis the con dence to make an immediate decision to embrace robotics in their manufacturing.
With the combination of RWAAS and ARP, Tyllis was able to take the leap into a new generation of robotic welding in record time.
As a result, Tyllis has been able to bene t in its operations by quickly scaling up during peak production, as well as instantly implementing

new welding techniques and improving product quality and consistency. It has also been able to spread costs and minimise investment risks, while undertaking and completing one-o production jobs as e ciently as its series production requests. In a market where lead time, quality, and customisation are increasingly critical, this combination from Valk Welding has given Tyllis a clear and sustainable advantage.

THE MANOEUVRING OF AN OVERSIZED SHIP HULL IN THE SMALLEST OF SPACES CALLS FOR GREAT SKILL, NERVES OF STEEL AND SPECIALISED HARDWARE. THAT’S WHERE BPW’S SWING AXLES COME TO THE FORE.
Italian heavy-li logistics company, Marra a, demonstrated the bene ts of highquality trailers for heavy and mega loads when it transported an oversized ship’s hull from the shipyard to the harbour basin at the Port of Taranto, at Apulia in southern Italy.
Employing SPMTs (Self-Propelled Modular Transporters) to do the heavy moving, it was a case of multiple parties being involved to ensure the job was a success.
e move was a case of centimetres, as the three modular SPMTs crept forward, slowly but steadily moving the mega yacht hull, measuring about 50 metres long and weighing 220 tonnes, out of the shipyard to the docks.
e operator of the special transport has to be supremely focussed as he walks alongside the SPMTs, guiding the behemoth through the shipyard entrance with just centimetres to spare.
e steel hull had to reach the harbour basin, where it was to be married to the rest of the aluminium superstructure before the nished FB616 mega-yacht could be launched into the water.
Marraffa, headquartered in Martina Franca, Taranto, the company specialises in the transport of particularly heavy and large loads, as well as handling industrial equipment.
SPMT + 14 axle lines
In this transport job Marraffa used three electronically coupled, self-propelled PST-SPMT trailers made by Goldhofer.
A total of 14 axle lines were required to carry this extraordinary load, with the Marra a team placing one SPMT with six axle lines under the bow, and two with four axle lines each parallel at the hull’s stern.
Due to the enormous dimensions of the ship hull, there was also very little space outside the shipyard hall for manoeuvring.
is is where the combination of BPW swing axles, rotating pendulum swing arms and hydropneumatic suspension came into its own, showing how the Marra a team was able to ensure precise
manoeuvring in the smallest of spaces – very relevant with moving the mega-yacht.
e BPW Bergische Achsen KG components guaranteed balanced axle loads and enabled large equalisation distances, variable ride heights and extreme wheel steering angles, even with the huge ship hull.
Deploying the electronic multi-way steering, the operator was able to turn and rotate the combination almost on the spot or even move it sideways.
BPW trailer axles proven value
Marra a’s Head of Purchasing, Pasquale Marra a, is convinced of BPW components’ quality, with the trailer eet all equipped with BPW axles.
“We have more than 100 trailer axle lines from Goldhofer, all of which are tted with BPW axles,” he said.
“ e decisive advantage of the swing axles is the large steering angle.
“ is signi cantly reduces the space required when manoeuvring the combination.”
BPW o ers swing axles for 6-60T applications.
In-house workshop + BPW spare parts
Pasquale Marra a extols the virtues of Marra a’s own workshop, which ensures that the vehicles are in perfect condition, complemented by the supply of spare parts from BPW. “We are mainly supplied by authorised dealers from the region. We are very satis ed with the constant availability of the parts,” he said.
All ship-shape
e FB616 was the rst mega-yacht to be built exclusively in the Bu oluto shipyards in Taranto and, thanks to the combination of Marra a’s experienced crew and the high-performance transport equipment from Goldhofer and BPW, it arrived safely at the edge of the harbour basin.
A mobile crane then li ed the superstructure of the yacht so that the hull could slide precisely underneath to facilitate the wedding of both sections.
A second mobile crane was needed to lower the mega-yacht into the water.
It then set course for Livorno, Tuscany on Italy’s west coast, where it was to be tted out and equipped before delivery to the customer.
www.bpw.de

BPW is launching a new 7-tonne swing axle in November 2025, promising to be more economical, more compact and more versatile than ever.
Due to variable application options, the new swing axle can be used with 17.5-inch or 19.5-inch single wheels.
Depending on national and licensing regulations, the universal swing axle can be used exibly as a 6 or 7-tonne axle, corresponding to an axle line of 12 or 14 tonnes.
Its compact design fully meets the increasing design requirements for low-loader vehicles and ensures optimum utilisation of installation space.

UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF BOGDAN CREȚU, SCHWARZMÜLLER ROMANIA IS ACCELERATING ITS GROWTH STRATEGY ACROSS
CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE, COMBINING PREMIUM ENGINEERING, LOCAL INSIGHT AND DIGITAL INNOVATION TO MEET RISING DEMAND IN ONE OF EUROPE’S MOST DYNAMIC TRANSPORT CORRIDORS.

When Bogdan Crețu took the helm of Schwarzmüller Romania, he stepped into a role that bridges global ambition and local opportunity. With Romania rapidly establishing itself as a logistics powerhouse connecting East and West, Schwarzmüller is positioning its regional operation to play a decisive role in shaping the next generation of transport e ciency and reliability.
For Crețu, the mission is clear: to build on Schwarzmüller’s legacy of quality and endurance while creating an agile, customer-driven organisation attuned to Romania’s fast-evolving logistics landscape.
“Schwarzmüller stands for long-term partnerships, reliability, endurance and innovation,” he said. “We are committed to being not just a supplier, but a strategic partner who supports customer growth through tailor-made, e cient and sustainable transport solutions.”
Crețu’s career has been de ned by steady progression through the transport and logistics sector. Over more than a decade, he has specialised in sales management, business development and operational performance, working with leading companies that gave him a front-row view of customer needs and market challenges.

“My journey has been driven by a passion for innovation and quality – values that align perfectly with Schwarzmüller’s philosophy,” he said. “Every role taught me that transport is ultimately about people, trust and performance.” is customer-centric mindset now underpins Schwarzmüller Romania’s next phase of development. Crețu believed that growth stemmed from empowerment, collaboration and clear communication – both within the organisation and with its customers.

“Growth comes from strong relationships,” he said. “Our goal is to position Schwarzmüller as the rst choice for high-quality, specialised trailers and a ersales services not only in Romania, but also across neighbouring markets.”

Located at the crossroads of Europe’s northsouth and east-west corridors, Romania has become one of the continent’s most important transport gateways. e expansion of infrastructure, growth in e-commerce and regional investment in logistics networks have transformed the country into a strategic hub for international freight.
“Romania’s geographic position makes it a gateway between East and West,” said Crețu. “As supply chains diversify, the demand for advanced, reliable transport solutions continues to rise. Schwarzmüller can play a major role by supporting the development of modern, sustainable eets that keep European logistics moving.”
Based in Bucharest, Schwarzmüller Romania operates a strategically equipped facility o ering service, maintenance, and technical support. Crețu said the combination of an experienced local team and the backing of an international brand gave customers both con dence and continuity.
“Our Bucharest site allows us to be close to our customers, with a skilled technical team and the infrastructure to support every phase of a trailer’s lifecycle,” he said.
From construction and agriculture to forestry and general freight, Schwarzmüller Romania’s order book reflects the country’s diverse industrial base. Each sector demands specialised performance, durability and versatility – attributes that de ne Schwarzmüller engineering.
“We see strong demand from construction, agriculture, and forestry operators,” said Crețu. “At the same time, the rise of e-commerce and increased international logistics ows have created new opportunities for transport companies who require durable and e cient equipment.”
Crețu emphasised that Schwarzmüller’s strength lay in its ability to tailor products precisely to customer requirements. The company’s premium positioning was built not just on engineering excellence but also on a consultative approach to eet optimisation.
“Many operators are now focusing on total cost of ownership rather than the initial purchase price,” he said. “By showing how Schwarzmüller’s high-quality solutions improve e ciency and reduce long-term costs, we can demonstrate the real value of premium equipment.”
To strengthen Schwarzmüller’s local and regional position, Crețu’s leadership is focused
on three priorities: customer proximity, service quality and innovation. He plans to expand the company’s support network, enhance workshop capabilities, and increase its presence in key logistics regions across Romania and neighbouring countries such as Bulgaria, Moldova and the Western Balkans.
“Romania isn’t just a destination market, it’s a launch pad,” said Crețu. “By combining local expertise with Schwarzmüller’s European strength, we can deliver even greater value to our customers.”
A cornerstone of that strategy was investment in people. Schwarzmüller Romania enhanced sta training programs and technical development to ensure consistent service standards nationwide.
“We are continuously developing our service coverage through our own facilities and certi ed partners,” he said. “Our goal is to provide faster response times, better spare-parts availability, and preventive maintenance programs that keep our customers’ eets running e ciently.”
Crețu said a ersales support de nes lasting relationships.
“A ersales is where partnerships are truly built,” he said. “We want every Schwarzmüller customer to feel supported – no matter the issue or circumstance.”
As eets across Europe became increasingly connected, Schwarzmüller integrated digitalisation into every stage of its operations. e company’s telematics and eetmanagement technologies o ered real-time data to improve uptime and optimise total cost of ownership.
“Digitalisation is no longer optional, it’s essential,” said Crețu. “Customers want smarter ways to monitor eet performance, reduce downtime, and improve e ciency. Schwarzmüller’s telematics give them the insights they need to make informed, datadriven decisions.”
He added that Romanian transport companies were ready for these advances.
“Our customers are embracing digital tools faster than ever,” he said. “ e appetite for intelligent, connected transport solutions is growing quickly, especially as logistics operators expand and seek competitive advantages.”
Like most European markets, Romania’s trailer sector faced several challenges –cost pressures, skilled-labour shortages, and an ongoing balancing act between price sensitivity and quality. Crețu views these headwinds as opportunities to reinforce Schwarzmüller’s premium value proposition.
“One challenge is the pressure on costs and the shortage of skilled labour,” he said. “Another is the need to balance short-term price sensitivity with long-term value. We address this by o ering exible packages, reliable a ersales support, and maintaining close dialogue with our customers.”
Sustainability also remained central to Schwarzmüller’s engineering and production philosophy.
“E ciency equals sustainability,” said Crețu. “Our lightweight designs reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while our manufacturing approach prioritises resource e ciency. Sustainability is not just an obligation – it’s part of our competitiveness.”
Under Crețu’s leadership, Schwarzmüller Romania has charted a con dent path forward – expanding its service network, deepening regional collaboration, and integrating digital and sustainable technologies that would shape transport for years to come.
“We are not just selling vehicles or service,” he said. “We are helping our customers grow. Schwarzmüller Romania is fully committed to delivering the quality, innovation, and partnership that de ne our brand. Together, we will continue to raise standards in transport performance and reliability.”

NEXT-GEN LOGISTICS, IT’S A LAUNCHPAD FOR THE FUTURE.
In the quiet outskirts of Germany, something extraordinary is unfolding. What began in 2007 as the DHL Europe Innovation Center has now evolved into a reimagined, state-of-the-art facility that places bold ideas and practical innovation at the core of logistics transformation. e newly unveiled facility is more than a refresh, it is a reinvention.
Launched with a clear mission to shape what’s next in logistics, the new Europe Innovation Center takes collaboration to new heights. Within its sleek, sustainable design, DHL has created a dynamic space where customers, partners, academics and thought leaders converge to explore emerging technologies from robotics and the Internet of ings (IoT) to automation and carbon-conscious solutions.
“ is is more than a facility, it’s an ecosystem for innovation,” a DHL spokesperson said. “It’s where we take vision and turn it into reality.”
From the moment you step inside, the space tells a story of ambition. Flexible working zones and interactive tech displays invite visitors not just to observe, but to engage. ink tank areas buzz with ideation. Prototypes roll through test zones. In every corner, the future is in motion.
e DHL Innovation Center is built around a few key pillars such as discovery, inspiration, connection and creation. Visitors are encouraged to dive deep into the latest breakthroughs in logistics tech, whether it’s testing autonomous delivery bots, exploring AI-powered warehouse systems, or learning how digital twin technology can

optimise supply chain ows in real-time.
But beyond the hardware, the centre is about human connection. It is a place where industry challenges are not just discussed but tackled together. By bringing together the brightest minds from across disciplines, DHL aims to turn blue-sky thinking into tangible, businessready solutions.
e sustainability thread runs strong through the centre’s mission, too. With green building materials, energy-e cient systems, and a focus on circular economy principles, the facility itself is a model of responsible innovation. DHL’s broader goal? To enable a logistics network that’s not only smarter and faster – but also cleaner.
“Think Beyond. Think EPIC.” That’s the rallying cry echoed throughout the new centre. It is reported to be more than a slogan but rather a mindset that permeates the entire DHL approach to innovation. EPIC stands for Exploratory, Purpose-driven, Inclusive and Customer-centric – four values that de ne the culture within these walls.
As global supply chains face mounting complexity, DHL’s Innovation Center in Germany acts as both a compass and a catalyst. It helps partners navigate disruption, explore new e ciencies, and build logistics strategies that are resilient, adaptive, and future-ready.
In the world of logistics, standing still is not an option. With this new chapter, DHL has made it clear. e journey toward the future is collaborative, creative and already well underway.
