JAZZ SERIES, JAZZ GETS CUSTOM.

Painstakingly designed to provide players with a warm tone, DW Jazz Drum shells are made exclusively in the DW Custom Shell Shop in Oxnard, California, and TimbreMatched™ using DW’s proprietary process. Utilizing an 8-ply Maple-Gum wood shell* and a slightly rounded 45-degree bearing edge, they can easily be tuned higher for Jazz applications and lower for most other musical settings. For those drummers that play Jazz exclusively or prefer a warmer sound than Collector’s Series, this shell is the answer. *8” toms are 7-ply.

Sure, DW Jazz Series® drums are perfect for Jazz, but they’re also exceptional for just about every other style of music that demands a warm, organic tone with plenty of earthy nuance. The fact is, the very same maple-gum shell configuration that was prized in the late ‘60s, ‘70s and early ‘80s for its inherent sound qualities in the studio is the same thing that makes these drums great for rock, pop, fusion or just about any other style of music you play.

DW offers plenty of custom drum sizes, but sometimes there’s a sound that can only be achieved with a specially-constructed instrument. Take, for example, the gong drum, a large single-headed mountable bass drum/tom hybrid that produces a very low, staccato fundamental. At the other end of the spectrum, there’s the rata drum. A long 6” diameter single-headed tom that gained popularity in the ‘80s and can be used for an additional percussive color. Gon Bops timbales are the result of years of refinement and design innovation. From the steel shell Tumbao Series, to the brass Alex Acuña model, each is designed to provide optimal high-end attack, resonance and body, and each has its own distinct “cascara” or shell sound. Features include heavygauge cold-rolled steel counter hoops, low profile side plates, recessed tuning rods, smooth white heads, and DW 9600 (Acuña) or DW 5600 (Tumbao) timbale stands.

Tumbao Series Timbales Tumbao Series Timbales are made from a rolled-steel shell and feature the same professional features as Alex Acuña Series Timbales. Gon bops Congas,UNCOMPROMISING SHELLS. To make such shells is no easy task. The lumber has to be hand-selected from only the finest air-dried quarter-sawn Red Appalachian Oak. Each stave is meticulously cut and bent by hand, steel rings hand-hammered into place, then cured for months. The shells are then hand-glued and again, hammered to shape. Many months later they are ready to be turned by an artisan who has made these shells the old-fashioned way for more than 20 years. Once they are sanded to a baby-soft finish, nearly one full year has passed.

So why do we go through all of this to make a conga? Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s simple, because we refuse to compromise.

Each stick is born from only the finest handselected U.S hickory, and only wood that meets our strict moisture content standards makes the cut. From there, wood dowels are lathed to exacting specifications and undergo a three-step sanding process. Once sanded smooth, they are primed and finished with our proprietary Satin-Lacquer process. The result is a natural feel that most drummers prefer.
