Dear PLer,

We had a great time with our departing S6 at their Prom on Saturday. North Berwick’s Marine Hotel was a stunning setting for a hugely enjoyable evening, and this edition of PLus is primarily a bumper picture edition, sharing the fun! Well done to our Pipe Bands for their strong performances in Innerleithen last weekend, and we wish them good luck in Saturday’s UK Pipe Band Championships, taking place in Lurgan, Northern Ireland.

Well done, too, to our students who filmed a BBC News item on young people and vaping. It was good to see our students reflect intelligently on an issue affecting all Scottish schools, popping up on not just Reporting Scotland, but on national BBC News, too! Our students came across really well.

I hope that everyone enjoys what looks set to be another sunny weekend!

S6 Prom

We had such a lovely evening with our S6 Leavers last Saturday, as staff and students joined together to mark the end of their time at Preston Lodge. Thank you to a really great group of (former!) students for making the evening such a success it was a real pleasure to spend time with you.

The setting was superb, everyone looked gorgeous and the dance floor was packed all night. The students did themselves and the school proud.

The Events Manager at The Marine thought our students were a great group of young people (as we know they are!) and said PL would be welcomed back any time. The two security guys couldn’t believe how well behaved everyone was!

A great time was had by all, and now we just have our famous S6 March Out left, which will take place just after the Senior Prize-giving event on 21 June. Thank you to Julia Robertson and the S6 Prom Committee for all they did to make this lovely evening possible.

BBC Scotland and Fast Forward

Last Thursday a group of students from different year groups met with Fast Forward and BBC Scotland to discuss the issues with vaping and the effects they have on young people.

The students - Katie, Jamie, Hayden, Cameron, Archie, Connor, Keir, Lara and Isla - also participated in a “Dragons Den” style debate while being filmed by the amazing BBC team. The students highlighted the positive aspects that influence young people into vaping as well as the negative aspects such as long term addiction and health issues.

This was such a valuable experience and gave us the fantastic opportunity to share our opinions and thoughts on such a current and pressing issue. On behalf of everyone that participated we greatly appreciate the BBC for providing us with the opportunity to feature on TV, radio and online news programmes! Pipe Band Success at Innerleithen

The pipe bands were in action again last weekend at a sunny Victoria Park in Innerleithen.

Only two Bands competed in the Novice B Grade and, despite a strong performance, PL finished in second place behind George Watson’s College.

Novice B Results

With no Juvenile events the Juvenile Band played in the adult Grade 3 and 2 competitions. In the Grade 3 competition we played our Medley Selection and finished in second place with a first place from the Ensemble judge. The Grade 2 competition was a March, Strathspey and Reel and we finished in third place. All 3 performances are on our Facebook page

The bands will travel to Northern Ireland this weekend to compete at the UK Pipe Band Championships in Lurgan Park, Co. Armagh.

The weather forecast is looking like another sunny one, so I’ll be packing my PL Pipe Band Baseball hat to keep the sun off my face.

Hats are available to order in Black, Gray or Burgundy for £9.50 – Email plhspipeband@edubuzz.org
