“The strength of our spirit leads us to success

Achieved goal: Government issued 800,000 land titles Griselda Valencia Esquival, 40, is a schoolteacher who lives in the southern Ica region. After a long wait and uncertainty over the ownership of land where she had built her humble home, Griselda has finally received her land title from the hands of President Alan Garcia Perez. Valencia Esquival was the beneficiary of the 800,000th land title issued by the Peruvian government over the last four and a half years. The government has focused efforts on helping millions of Peruvians clear title to their plots of land and properties, and as time passes, this has led to the formal registration of their properties and increased and easy access to loans, credit facilities and instruments provided by financial institutions. The properties have become a fundamental tool for the beneficiaries who can access financial credits and loans to start and grow their own business.

100,000 vehicles converted to

natural gas in the country

The use of natural gas-fueled vehicles, in addition to reducing fuel costs and air pollution in the city, has helped create more jobs for Peruvians, according to President Alan Garcia Perez.

After delivering the 100,000th natural gas-converted car, the president said this number doubles the projected goal of 50,000 natural gas-fueled vehicles by 2016.

The achievement is the result of a joint effort between public and private sectors with the support of COFIDE, which through its COFIGAS and INFOGAS programs, has funded the US$290 million conversion of 100,000 vehicles circulating in Lima, Piura and Chiclayo.

This fleet of vehicles has helped reduce particulate and sulfur dioxide emissions by 30 percent and prevented the emission of one million tons of CO2.

The plant’s capacity is 14 cubic meters of treated water per second with a maximum flow of 20.3 cubic meters per second.

Huanta and San Juan de Lurigancho Universities Fulfilled promise. President Alan Garcia signed two laws creating the National University of Huanta and the National Technological University of San Juan de Lurigancho, reiterating once again his commitment to using education as a tool to reform the country. Accompanied by popular Huanta-born actress Magaly Solier, the Peruvian leader said that the creation of the university in Huanta, Ayacucho, was a long awaited dream that has finally become a reality with a view to boosting production and social and economic development. The university will offer courses in biotechnology, sustainable tourism and hotel management, agronomy and forestry engineering, environmental management and animal husbandry engineering. Meanwhile, the San Juan de Lurigancho university, located at the 10.5 km mark on Avenida Wiesse, will impart courses in mechanical engineering, computer and systems engineering, accounting and administration for over 500,000 students.

The Taboada project is carried out by ACS Servicios, Comunicaciones y Energía with an investment of 416.6 million soles. La Chira plant, located in La Herradura, will treat wastewater from southern Lima.

“This way, we fulfilled one of the promises offered: Lima’s bay will have the cleanest beaches on the continent” Alan Garcia, Chorrillos, January 27 “I thought the law would take a lot of time, but no, thanks president for having listened to my people in Huanta” (Magaly Solier, January 27)
