to 462hp and are topped with polished sheet metal covers. A custom Russells seven litre sump holds the good stuff and a 780 Holley carby supplies fuel from the custom 100 litre tank with help from twin Holley blue pumps. The carby sits atop a chrome 308 Strip Master manifold. Everything in the bay has been balanced and most of the parts chromed or polished including the power steering pump, the pulleys and the Romac balancer. A Roll Master double row timing chain is hidden in there too. The fire is ignited by a Holden HEI dizzy and Procomp leads and the gasses are expelled through Genie extractors and a twin three inch system with Mercury mufflers. Southport Exhaust is responsible for the work and PWR is responsible for the four core radiator that keeps the 324.9hp donk cool. All that power is backed up by a Turbo 350 with a 5500 Dominator stall. The power

he Datsun 1200 ever since I can remember has always been a bit of a cult classic. With many trolling eBay and Gumtree repeatedly trying to get their hands on one for that perfect project to drag back home to the shed. Boasting a coupe, 4 door and Ute variations they are extremely popular for their timeless styling and how stupidly light they are! These short wheelbase classics are the perfect recipe for outrageous power to weight advantages and have had almost every variation of motor crammed between the struts imaginable. Owner Travis Beckmann is the proud owner of this impeccable 1971 four door since 2007 and has spent the best part of 3 ½ years getting it to what you see now. The car was purchased already painted and with the engine fitted, but like most unfinished projects simply had a few small gremlins that needed fixing as it wasn’t quite running properly. “I wanted this one as it is a bit different to everyone who seems to have a 1200 Ute.” Travis told us. The car originally came with a T2876 turbo strapped to the CA18 but was having boost issues so a decision was made to upgrade to a GT3086 turbo. The motor had a few

KING OF DRIFT - Archerfield Raceway QLD

MICK IS QUEENSLAND’S KING OF DRIFT FOR 2014 The sixth running of the Qld state KING of DRIFT was held for the first time at the tight and demanding Archerfield Drift track in Brisbane on Sunday April 6th. The big line up was headed by the current REPCO PRO DRIFT CHAMP Mick Rosenblatt in the V8 powered NULON sponsored Nissan Skyline, however there were twenty seven other drivers who also decided they wanted a piece of the much prized trophy. After some awesome but tough battles through the qualifying heats to decide the top eight they lined up for the normal KOD knockout final. Rob Whyte in his 350Z was lined up against David Bledig in the Drift Syndicate super charged VE, unfortunately Rob was forced to withdraw with ignition problems. As the cars were battling through the first few laps threatening storms suddenly dumped the track with water which made the last few remaining battles very interesting with some amazing drives from the likes of Christian Bedewi, Barry Clark, Ron Lange and Kris Frome. Could this be Iceman from Topgun?

Friends are a great asset on race day.

the whole lot is controlled by a Vi-pec R34 engine management system. To date with 16 psi through the EBC Greddy profec B boost controller the car has managed an impressive 372HP for its everyday setting and a more impressive 440HP on 23psi for when Dan wants to feel that snap neck power. Dan told us here at the office that she is a bit of a clutch killer, so to help changes as infrequent as possible he fitted a Billet Jim Berry Race Button clutch to take the abuse and to date has only managed to destroy the one gearbox. “Hands down the best thing about this car is the power that comes with the looks, it’s a good street car and it’s very reliable really.” Said Dan.

which we all know results in lower ET’s. 5 coats of epoxy primer later and she was prepped, looking the part and ready to hit the paint booth. Trever Long was entrusted with the job and did a fantastic job at laying down the beautiful Violet paint that can only be described as truly impeccable. Tony was blown away with the finish and was itching to get the car home to get cracking on the rest of the build. The car had some lightweight poly carbonate (Makrolon) material fitted instead of the original glass and work quickly began on building the engine.

all his help throughout the build and also helping with the tuning on the dyno. The engine made a staggering 738HP and 608 FT LB of torque on alcohol which is a fantastic result out of a 23 degree head. With a Dyno sheet in hand reading some very big numbers Tony fitted the engine and got cracking on the cars wiring. Backing up the aggressive V8 is a trusty Power glide tranny with 5200 stall and full manual shift kit and diff running 40 spline gun drilled axles and fool spool strange big big bore with pro gears all beautifully pieced

The Chev SB 427ci V8 had the works and was assembled by Tony himself with a 4 bolt mains Scat crank, Oliver 6” con rods and Ross pistons that are Dome ceramic coated with gas ports running13.8:1 compression. The cylinder heads are 23 Degree Alloy AFR items and have been ported, polished and flow tested to 750HP. Bigger valves have been fitted with a three angle valve grind and runs PAC springs with titanium retainers under AFR Valve covers. Idras Ddemaij the head builder also installed Comp Cams 280/290 Solid Roller cams,Crower Hipo lifters with trend push rods,Jesels Rockers and is locked down with ARP head studs. Feeding these beauties is a Super Victor inlet manifold with Holley Dominator 1250cfm carburettor fed from a Bowlaws belt driven fuel pump and fabricated 16L fuel tank. A MSD Crank Trigger distributor, MSD Coil and 7AL programmable amplifier control the spark and make for one formidable combination. With the engine now assembled and ready for battle it was taken over to get tuned by Denis Whiting to work his magic. Tony has to give a massive shout out to Bob from CF performance for

“I always wanted to have such an iconic muscle car for a drag car, it’s the ultimate car I believe. I don’t condone cutting up a perfectly good Monaro but it was different in my case.” Tony explained.
