"Prescott College’s experiential learning opportunities have changed my life. From studying water politics while canoeing on the Colorado River, to traveling to rural Kenya to learn about history and culture, at Prescott you’re surrounded by people who have also sought out something different, and they quickly become friends for life."

SENIOR PROJECTS

natalie krause
Field Ecology and Conservation
Senior Project: Whitebark Pine Status in Western Garibaldi Provincial Park
High in the mountains, at treeline in coastal British Columbia, unknown stands of Whitebark Pine scratch out a living amidst harsh winds, blowing snow, and short growing seasons. These pines also face two new threats to their success: rising treelines due to climate change, and worse yet, the fungal pathogen known commonly as White Pine Blister Rust. Natalie's senior project brought her to these trees, where, working on foot and out of her backpack, she conducted pioneering surveys on the ecological status of these yet unstudied stands, making significant contributions to Parks Canada-wide conservation efforts.

Senior Project: Facilitation of a Prospective Student River Recruitment Trip
"I co-created, planned, and facilitated the successful pilot of our Prospective Student River Recruitment Trips program. I was lead a team of peers in planning and executing the logistics required for the trip, crafting a place-based curriculum for the mini-course, and then guiding the 4-day recruitment whitewater trip on the upper San Juan River in Utah. My goal for the project was to share with prospective students a taste of the unique education we offer at Prescott College while facilitating a safe, instructive, and transformative river trip."

Senior Project: Beyond the Self: The Healing Powers of Unitive Practices
"Unity can be experienced in all aspects of life, such as outdoor adventure, reading a book, or having a conversation, and can have a healing potential. I found through my research that these practices and experiences are really valuable in creating long term well-being."
