Because of you, Frances feels celebrated, remembered, and deeply loved. Your Giving Matters!

PVM Foundation couldn’t wait to share this incredible story with you — because you made it possible.
Let us introduce you to someone truly special: Frances Masters, one of the most beloved residents at The Village of East Harbor in Chesterfield, MI. She’s been part of the East Harbor family for over 13 years. Here’s what makes her story so remarkable...
Frances is one of the original Rosie the Riveters — the courageous women who kept America moving during WWII by working in factories while our troops were overseas. In 1942, she took a job at the Willow Run Bomber Plant, building B-24 Liberator Bombers.
“I was proud to help my country during the war,” Frances says grinning from ear to ear. “I was doing my part.” She rode the bus for an hour both ways every day. Each paycheck went straight to support her family — because that’s who Frances is…strong, determined, and selfless.
She remembers the day President Roosevelt visited the plant — “It meant so much that he came,” she recalls. Then with a big grin, she adds, “But when
Marilyn Monroe visited another time, I got even more excited. Just kidding! I love them both!”
Frances’ story runs deep. Her parents were Italian immigrants who settled in Detroit. She had two brothers who served in WWII and heartbreakingly, one never returned home. While her neighbors danced in the streets when the war ended, Frances’ family mourned.
After the war, Frances married and had three children. When her husband passed away very young, she stepped up once again — working 30 years at the Chrysler Plant, primarily in quality control, as the sole provider for her family.
At age 90, her family helped her move into The Village of East Harbor. After a lifetime of working and
supporting others, her resources were modest. Her children chipped in to help a little with her rent, and she quickly found community and joy at East Harbor.
But as she reached her 100s, she began facing a challenge many older adults face: outliving her resources
“I love East Harbor,” she says. “It’s my home. I enjoy my neighbors and the fun we have. I just worry sometimes if I’ll be able to afford to stay.”
Then, something incredible happened.
Frances was selected to receive the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor in Washington, D.C. — in recognition of her role as a Rosie the Riveter. But as excited as she was, the cost made the trip out of reach.
Thankfully, a caring East Harbor employee told her about the Kleemann Help Fund, a fund established to support East Harbor residents and staff in their time of need. And here’s the best part: the Kleemann Help Fund exists because of donors like you and your generous support of the PVM Foundation.
Because of you, Frances boarded a plane to our nation’s capital — proudly representing her generation and receiving the recognition she so richly deserves.
“Seeing the White House and the Capitol Building was the highlight of my life,” Frances shared. “Thank you, donors, for making this experience happen. I love each of you.”

YOU MADE THIS MOMENT HAPPEN! FRANCES RECEIVED THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL OF HONOR THANKS TO YOUR DONATION.

And there’s more good news...
The City of Royal Oak is building a Rosie the Riveter statue, and guess who it’s modeled after? That’s right — Frances Masters. What an incredible legacy!
This is what your donation does. You didn’t just help someone take the trip of a lifetime— you gave a 103-year-old American hero the honor and joy she’s earned. You gave her a memory she’ll carry with her forever.
The Holiday Season is here, and we’re reminded that giving back is what makes this time of year truly meaningful. Your kindness, your support, and your belief in the PVM Mission is changing real lives for the better.
And the next Frances? She’s already here — waiting for a little help.
Thank you for being the reason stories like this are possible.
Christmas!
Your gift helped 242 residents from 11 PVM Villages set sail for an unforgettable day on the Detroit River
Thanks to your donation, six busloads of residents boarded the Detroit Princess Riverboat with smiles as wide as the river itself. This was PVM’s largest group outing of the summer.
The Motown Tribute Cruise got nearly everyone on their feet. Residents danced, sang, and shared lunch together while taking in the skyline views. For many, it was their summer vacation.
The dedicated Village Administrators, led by Graziella Bruner, of The Village of Our Saviour’s Manor in Westland, MI, coordinated the whole outing. “ I love what I do. Seeing so many residents having fun was incredible, ” Bruner said. “ They were grinning from ear to ear. ”

Meet Marge — a proud grandma, 78 years young, and a PVM resident. Not long ago, unforeseen circumstances caused her to lose her bedroom furniture. Just like that, she found herself without the most basic comfort — a bed to sleep in.
With help from her granddaughter, she managed to replace her mattress. But on her fixed income, a new bed frame was simply out of reach. Rest is so important to health and wellbeing - without it takes a toll.
For many older adults living on fixed incomes, it doesn’t take much for life to turn upside down. An unexpected expense, an urgent medical bill, or the loss of basic household necessities can quickly become a crisis.
Because of caring donors like you, grandmas like Marge can rest easy tonight. Will you donate to the Resident Emergency Help Fund today?
Your gift — a single act of kindness — provides real relief, turning fear into security and exhaustion into comfort and rest.
So far this year, more than 140 residents have received help through the Resident Emergency Help Fund. In some years, the fund has run dry — leaving urgent needs unmet. With your gift today, we can make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Your generosity offers comfort, stability, and peace of mind during life’s most difficult moments.
Please give generously today — and help Marge, and others like her, sleep in comfort tonight.

To give: Visit PVMF.org/donate or use the enclosed envelope, or call us at 248-281-2040.

I want to help residents like Marge and support the Resident Emergency Help Fund!
Here is my gift of: $_________________________ ❍ Make this a monthly gift

“It was years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a newer member of the Board of Presbyterian Villages of Michigan and was particularly interested in what we were doing for seniors in the City of Detroit. I arranged for a visit to our then newer Village of Brush Park Manor Paradise Valley. In addition to touring this impressive facility, I sat down with several residents to hear from them how they were finding the Village.
I gave them a little of my background but told them I really wanted to hear about them and their life in the Village. Immediately one gentleman looked at me and said, “ Mr. Peterson, you don’t understand. Until I moved here, I lived several blocks from here in an old apartment building. The building was not safe, I had several locks on

—BOB & SUE PETERSON
my door, there was crime in the neighborhood and gangs in the area. I was afraid to go outside. Here I am safe, I have a beautiful apartment, wonderful neighbors and everything I need. This is the nicest place I’ve ever lived .”
That made a lasting impression on me which continues to remind me of the positive difference PVM is making every day on the lives of the thousands of seniors we serve around Michigan.”
Bob’s experiences, like that, over the years have inspired him and his wife, Sue, to include PVM in their estate plan.
“We want to help ensure that PVM will always provide quality housing and compassionate services for older adults. It brings us joy to know our commitment will help future generations find not just housing but a true home .”

I have some exciting news to share — and want to say a huge Merry Christmas and Thank You! Back in 2019, PVM set out on a big journey. PVM’s goal? To serve 1,200 more low-income older adults in four existing PVM communities — Flint, Pontiac, Port Huron/Fort Gratiot, and Westland — through something PVM coined the Campaign for the Ages.
Why? Affordable housing is in crisis, especially for older adults on very fixed incomes. Right now, older adults are often stuck on 2- to 3-year waiting lists — and by the time they finally get a spot, it’s often too late.
So, PVM dreamed big. To pull this off, we needed over $200+ million — with $19.5 million of that coming from generous donors. We knew it wouldn’t be easy… but thanks to you, we’ve come a long, long way.
Fast forward to today — and I’m thrilled to tell you: It’s happening and bearing fruit!
Because of you, the generous PVM Foundation donor, over $15 million in donations has been raised to date. And it’s making a real difference right now:
t Buildings for housing and healthcare, PACE Centers, and campus renovations are going up — some are already complete

t Older adults are moving into new or completely renovated apartments they can call home
t Lives are being changed, every single day

I can’t say it enough: you helped make this a reality. Your donation didn’t just support a campaign — it gave someone a fresh start. A safe, truly affordable, welcoming place to call home. Of course, we’re not done yet. There’s still work ahead — more funds to raise, more people to serve — but look at how far the project has come.
This really is a Campaign For The Ages — and you’re a huge part of its story.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and New Year,

Paul J. Miller, CFRE President, PVM Foundation

If you feel inspired to give again (or tell a friend), PVM Foundation would be honored. You can visit pvmf.org/cfta or give us a call at 248.281.2040 (a real person will answer your call!).
Close your eyes and think back to some of your favorite holiday memories. Chances are they involve delicious tastes and aromas coming from the kitchen. PVM residents wanted to give you a gift this year by sharing some of their best holiday recipes to add to your holiday menu.
Steven Huber at The Village of East Harbor, Chesterfield Township
2 C flour
1 C Crisco
¼ tsp salt
2-3 Tbsp flour

Instructions: Combine ingredients being careful not to overwork and roll out on a floured surface to approximately ¼-⅛ inch thickness.
Press into pie tin and bake at 400 degrees for approximately 10 minutes.
Next add filling of your choice. You can add canned fruit filling or make apple pie filling by combining sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon to taste.
If you have leftover crust, you can add strips to the top of the pie in a lattice formation or you can make a second crust to put over top of the pie. Be sure to pinch the edges to seal the crust and use the back of a fork to press around the edges and cut some slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 15 minutes then lower heat to 375 degrees and continue to bake for about half an hour.

4 yams, large
1 stick unsalted butter
2 C brown sugar, packed
2½ - 3 tsp ground cinnamon
1½ tsp pure vanilla extract
1 pinch of ground cloves
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Trim the ends of the yams, peel them, and slice into ½-inch thick rounds. Arrange the slices in a 2-quart baking dish and set aside. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then add the dark brown sugar and stir until smooth and fully combined. Stir in the cinnamon, vanilla extract, and ground cloves, tasting the sauce and adjusting the sweetness or spice as desired. Pour the sugar-butter-spice mixture evenly over the yam slices, ensuring they are well coated.
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for about 40 minutes, until the yams are semi-tender. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20 to 25 minutes, or until the yams are caramelized and tender. Serve hot, spooning the sauce from the bottom of the dish over the yams.
