PRECIOUS MEDALS

Through the Village Victory Cup, you can keep residents healthy and engaged

“What is this medal?,” Barb asked every day. “You won that at the Village Victory Cup,” The Village of Westland’s memory care staff replied. “I did?” Barb beamed with pride and grasped the medal. Every day she won it again. You can touch lives like Barb’s through the Village Victory Cup, PVM’s annual resident competition.

“It’s built for everyone,” says Tom Wyllie, Director of Wellness. “Every level of mobility and ability can compete.” Three hundred residents compete, and it’s making more than a one-day impact. Residents begin training as early as one year before the event! That training means an increase in social and physical activity all year long. For $500, you can provide the equipment a village needs to train for the event. You can provide transportation, food, team shirts or, of course—the medals—through your philanthropic support. “It’s amazing how engaged residents are! We get letters, emails and calls every year.” Wyllie smiles, “Roger Myers, PVM’s CEO got a hand-written letter from a resident suggesting we turn off the AC for balloon volleyball: the wind was interfering with her team’s balloon. We heard her. We left the air on, but now teams switch sides halfway through the match to assure fairness.”
