Resident Spotlight:

Gerald Proffitt, traveling man Summer is a time that brings fond memories of travels once taken. Resident Gerald Proffitt is one resident who recalls many adventures. “Bus tours seem to be a popular way to travel. All the planning is done for you. I made the most of the service, going on seven different tours with my wife using the services of Please Go Away Tours out of Great Bend, Kansas,” said Gerald.

Gerald Proffitt believes he was very lucky to get to travel.

Gerald and his wife, Twila, traveled a lot. They visited places as nearby as Amarillo, Texas, to as exotic as a cruise to Puerto Rico. Gerald says his most memorable trip was the “Fall Foliage Tour” he and Twila took one September. The trip first brought them to Hannibal, Mo., then to Chicago, Ill. They then went to Niagra Falls in NewYork and then over to Maine. From Maine, the bus was put on a ferry to Nova Scotia. As they trekked through Canada, they went through major cities including Toronto and the Province of Quebec. The trip would eventually lead them into Michigan, where they were ferried to Milwaukee, Wis., and eventually made the final trip home.

When all was said and done, the trip had lasted 16 days. Gerald recalled that though the trips were long, the bus never travelled more than 300 miles in a day. He remarked that he is extremely fortunate to have been able to travel as much as he did in his life.

July 2015

In an upcoming Community Matters, we’ll be focusing on senior safety, fall prevention and Grandparents’ Day. How do you keep your balance? What have you found to be most helpful in aging strong and avoiding injuries as you age? What’s your favorite thing about being a grandparent or great-grandparent? What wisdom do you want to pass along to the next generation? If you’d like to share your thoughts or memories, contact Cindy Moore to share your idea. Your story may be selected for the next issue of your community newsletter.
