Commun ty Matters Parsons Presbyterian Manor
Cool treat for hot summer nights July is national ice cream month, and our residents fondly recall making, and eating, homemade ice cream.
Mary Lee Ashcraft happily proclaimed, “Oh yes! My husband loved his homemade ice cream so much. He would sit there stirring it up many times through the week.”
It is crazy to think that now we don’t even think about hand stirring up homemade ice cream.
Another resident, Bob Andrews, expressed how a few of his family members use to bet on baseball games and whoever lost the game would be on that back porch stirring up the ice cream.
“It never failed that was the bet on the games,” Bob said.

There’s no place like Nursing Home Week
July 2018
Nursing Home Week, May 14-18, may have been awhile back, but it’s certainly something that will be remembered by staff and residents alike. This fun-filled week was a way to celebrate the many benefits of senior living communities. Activity Director Jasmine Edie put a lot of time and effort into making this “Wizard of Oz” themed week fun for all, especially considering it was her first week in this position!
“I think the residents enjoyed watching the original ‘Wizard of John Sears enjoyed Nursing Home Week by mixing up Oz’ movie. A lot of Wizard of Oz cake pops! the residents made comments about remembering the movie and how good it was. I also think making the rainbow fruit tray was an activity the residents enjoyed doing because they were just so surprised that It looked like a rainbow once we were all finished,” said Jasmine.
Jasmine’s personal favorite activity was making the witch hat toss because she loved to see the residents faces light up once they got the ring on the witch hat.
