New Director of Nursing/Assisted Living joins Presbyterian Village
Fort Scott native Ellen Fairchild didn’t always know where her career path would take her, until she became a mother.

“I was born and raised in Fort Scott and went to Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Community College.When I started college, I was unsure of what career path I wanted to take until I had my son, Aiden, who had health problems at birth. Watching the nursing staff work with my son inspired me to become a nurse.”
“During college I took a job as a certified medication aide at Medicalodge and at the Presbyterian Village where I quickly found a love for seniors. At the Village I worked under the direction of Lori Collier who became a role model for me. She taught me firsthand how to invest my time in others and most of all how to make a difference in the lives of others.The Presbyterian Village felt like a big “family” to me and I loved it! After completing college Presbyterian Village didn’t have an R.N. position so Ellen accepted a position at Via Christri Hospital as a wound nurse. In addition, she took a part-time positions in doctors offices. She wasn’t unhappy with her career, but when she learned that Presbyterian Village was looking for a director of assisted living she was thrilled to apply for that role. “Being here makes me feel like a home away from home. I cannot wait to make the Village my life’s work and give back to the community that has given me so much in my nursing career,” she said.
Join us in welcoming Ellen into her new role.We’re honored she chose to make this her “home” and are blessed to have her broad range of experience on staff. Ellen has earned various academic and professional accomplishments and has volunteered in organizations including Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society (president) and Student Nurses Organization at Fort Scott Community College; Bourbon County’s Online Chairman for Relay for Life; and member of Fort Scott Community College’s choir and orchestra. Ellen also earned the Student Nurse Professionalism Award and a full tuition and books scholarship from Fort Scott Community College.
