The bonds of sisterhood are strong at Parsons Presbyterian Manor
Sisters Laura Groff and Maxine Stacy grew up in Cherryvale, Kansas and despite their six-year age difference, they’ve remained very close over the years. In fact, they’re now neighbors at Parsons Presbyterian Manor, thanks to Laura moving in last October.
“We see one another every day for lunch,” said Maxine, who lives in Independent Living.
“We also enjoy doing puzzles together and we LOVE shopping,” said Laura, who lives in Assisted Living.
The pair lost a brother, and both are widowed. That makes their current bond stronger than ever, they say.
“I feel very blessed that she’s here with me,” Maxine said. Laura also enjoys her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever she gets to see them.
Both ladies are avid readers and say they’re loving life together at Parsons Presbyterian Manor. u
National Exercise Day is April 18th and our Aegis Therapies team has some tips
National Exercise Day is April 18th, but here at Parsons Presbyterian Manor our residents are always looking for ways to stay active.
If you’d like to put some more pep in your step, here are some tips from our friends at Aegis:
1. Consistency
• Scheduled exercise at the same time of day creates habit and rhythm.
2. Progress
• Tracking your progress can compare where you started to areas of improvement and can also reveal areas to focus on.
3. Friends
• Find a friend or group of friends to exercise together, keeping each other honest to stick to the program! u

PMMA celebrates history with Founder’s Day
PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®) employees will observe the founding of the senior living system this month as the company celebrates its 74-year history of serving seniors in Kansas and Missouri.
PMMA’s roots go back to 1947. Alice Kalb, a widow from central Kansas, appealed to a Presbyterian Church organization to establish a home for seniors. Her vision laid the foundation for the first Presbyterian Manor community in Newton, Kan., and inspired others to do even more. Through the many decades, PMMA® remained true to the spirit of Alice’s vision, providing quality senior services guided by Christian values.
Each Founder’s Day, staff members re-commit to live our mission by signing the “WE PROMISE” board that lists the pillars of the mission: respecting that seniors retain their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; assisting residents with specific needs; providing compassionate service; serving as a trusted resource; and advocating for seniors.
“Our nearly 2,000 employees view
what they do as a calling,” said Bruce Shogren, president and CEO. “Our dedicated employees make it possible for us to sustain PMMA’s mission, as well as its heritage. I believe Alice is watching over us today knowing that we’re carrying on the legacy that she established more than seven decades ago.”
Alice Kalb’s dream has turned into a network of 15 senior living communities and two hospices across Kansas and Missouri. A new senior living community is under construction in Colorado Springs.
PMMA remains true to its core and mission: to provide quality senior services guided by Christian values. u

A warm welcome to new resident Barbara Harris!
New resident Barbara Harris is having a great time so far at Parsons Presbyterian Manor!
She moved in back in mid-February and her daughter-inlaw, Michelle Atkins, says it was the right place at the right time.
“The staff has been so nice and informative,” she said. “We have great peace of mind knowing she’s getting the love and care she needs.”
Barbara, who lost her husband a few years ago, has a special friend who visits her often at the Manor. Tanner the dog lives with Barbara’ son and daughter-in-law and loves popping by.
“We’re not sure what kind of dog he is, but he’s full of love for Barbara,” said Atkins.
All in all, Barbara is enjoying having new friends to talk with and a community of people who care.
The entire Parsons Presbyterian Manor family offers a warm welcome to Barbara Harris! u
