July 2018

Celebrating art The Glen residents enjoyed the 2018 Art is Ageless® cocktail reception. Art was displayed throughout assisted living and the skilled care center, with works from several residents. Jean Moses displayed her fantastic puzzles, Anne Herron shared her art collection, Rita Seiler put her embroidery and family art on view, Joan Murphy revealed several pottery and wood carvings, Connie Josse shared her Christmas cross stitch, and Anne Vogel displayed her cross stitch botanicals. Mary Alice Lynch wrote a delightful children’s book that her granddaughter illustrated, Gordan Grundmann displayed his art, Ellen Umlauf showed off her wonderful cross stitch, Nelda Richardson offered her collection of art from her travels around the world and Don Behren’s metal sculptures were a hit. We also had a special exhibit of Helen Quante’s lovely watercolors and acrylics. The works the residents have done throughout the last several months in art class also were displayed. Ryan Bradley, a student at Chaminade High School, ART, continued on page 4

Residents read a Winnie the Pooh book, “An Arts & Crafts Day,” to preschoolers. See additional photos on page two.

Art is truly ageless This year’s Art is Ageless® reception included a new twist—a beautiful intergenerational art project and display. This idea was born from a moment between mother and son back in March. After reading a Winnie the Pooh book, “An Arts & Crafts Day,” to her son, Life Enrichment Director Bethany Holohan thought it would be fun to do an intergenerational art program with residents and preschoolers from a nearby school. This project became a fun and engaging activity for the children and residents alike. In March, residents in skilled nursing and assisted living took turns reading this book to the children. In April, the children came to Aberdeen Heights and helped paint three tablecloths to be displayed at the art show. Lastly, the children attended the art show. This project embraced the meaning of “Art is Ageless.” We found the artist in everyone.
