Becoming independent in the Senior School

What to do if...

I can’t find my class.

Please go to View Sreet (Years 7 – 9) or McNeil Street (Years 10 – 12) Reception.

Uniform

I have lost something at school.

Retrace your steps and check lost property at both the Reception and outside the PACC office. Make sure your name is on everything.

I left part of my uniform at home. Ribbons, socks, and tights are available from Reception.

Your Pastoral and Academic Care Co-ordinator (PACC) can also help.

I don’t have my name badge. You can order a new name badge from Reception.

I left something on the bus or train. Call Transperth on 13 62 13.

My Classes and Working Habits

I’m not sure what to do or I can’t do something in class.

Ask your teacher for help in class. Email your teacher to ask a question or to make an appointment to meet with them.

I need extra help with subjects or study skills. See your teacher and/or attend Tutoring in the Library. Your Pastoral and Academic Care Co-ordinator can help a lot too!

I am having problems with organisation. Speak to your teacher or your Pastoral and Academic Care Co-ordinator. Make sure you use your PLC diary to record your homework.

I need to go to the bathroom. Please ask your teacher for permission.

Homework

I can’t do part of my homework.

Make a note in your PLC dairy of what you are having trouble with. See your teacher the next day, preferably before class.

Music Lessons

I have a Music lesson during school.

Let your teacher know and tag in (and out) at the Music Centre.

I can’t make my Music lesson. Email your Music teacher in advance. Please don’t leave it to the last minute! As much notice as possible is appreciated by your teachers who come especially to teach you.

I have a test and my Music lesson is at the same time.

You need to sit your test, so you must email or speak with your Music teacher to let them know. They may be able to change your lesson time.

Buying Lunch

I forgot my SmartRider student card.

Go to Reception, tell the receptionist your student number and use the slip you are given to buy your lunch (you need to have funds on your card for this to work).

SmartRiders

I need a new SmartRrider.

Go to Reception to order a new one. The cost will be charged to your account. They will let you know when it arrives and you can collect it from Reception.

Health Centre

I feel unwell.

Go to the Health Centre (preferably during a break). Use your SmartRider to tag in on your arrival. Don’t forget to tag out when you leave to come back to school.

Your First Day

What do I wear?

Your Black Watch tartan skirt, shorts, or pants, white PLC blouse, white PLC socks (or black socks if wearing pants), and black shoes.

Make sure that if your hair is longer than shoulder length, you tie it up with a white ribbon or scrunchie (Summer), navy blue ribbon or scrunchie (Winter), or striped ribbon.

One small sleeper or small plain (not stones), round gold, silver, or pearl stud in the bottom of the lobe of each ear, as well as a watch.

Remember your Panama hat in Summer, tights in Winter if you’re wearing the skirt or shorts, and black socks if you’re wearing the pants.

Where should I come on the first day?

Ask your parent/guardian to drop you off at the relevant entrance – Years 7 to 9 at the View Street Slipway and Years 10 to12 at the McNeil Street Slipway.

Come through the automatic doors. Your House Tutor, Dean of Wellbeing and Pastoral Care, and your buddy will be waiting at Reception to meet you.

What should I bring?

Bring the books and materials you need for the lessons scheduled for that day. Bring in other items as the week progresses. Please remember to bring your laptop!

Leaving School Early

I need to leave for an appointment.

Your parent/guardian must come to Reception to collect you. Use your SmartRider to tag out on the iPad before you leave.

Friendships and Other Concerns

I have some personal things bothering me. I am having some trouble with my friends. There are many people at PLC who are keen to help you. Your Pastoral and Academic Care Co-ordinator is the best person to approach for help with these kinds of things. Your Dean of Wellbeing and Pastoral Care can also help.

Our Psychologists are also here to help as well. Just send them an email to organise a time to meet – or just drop into their office to have a chat.

Who can help with what?

Talk to your class teachers for questions and help with your learning. Talk to your House Tutor for more general questions, also for sharing your good news!

There are a lot of other people dedicated to taking care of you.

School Psychologists

You can see our Psychologists for help with anything, especially organisation, dealing with subjects, helping you with friendship issues, or other things that might be worrying you.
