IPPE Evaluations As the Spring-1 IPPEs come to a close this week, here's a few reminders for completing the student evaluations: P2 and P3 IPPE evaluations are completed in eValue. (Home Page -- Urgent Tasks -- Complete Pending Evaluations) There are new "Trust/Supervision Statements" in the IPPE evaluation. This helps OEE collect information about the student's progress through the curriculum, both in the classroom and on rotation.

"Student observes the preceptor only" - This indicates that the student does not have the knowledge and skills to perform this task

alone.

"Student performs with direct, proactive supervision" - This indicates that the student can perform the task with the preceptor looking on or guiding through the process.

"Student performs with reactive supervision" - This indicates that the student can perform the task without the preceptor right beside him and "on call" if they need help.

P1 evaluations are completed in ELMS, but remain the same otherwise.

Journal Monitor There’s a lot in the literature about trends and improvements in experiential education. So we’ve created an easy way for you to keep up: The Journal Monitor. In each preceptor newsletter, we’ll provide you a brief look at some current articles. And we’ll provide the source information as well so you can take a look at the entire article yourself.

​Reflections are a common assignment in both IPPE and APPEs. But preceptors want to ensure that the activity is meaningful for the student and not just perceived as "busy work." In this article by faculty from North Carolina State University, the authors state that it is not enough to tell the students to "go and reflect." By giving guiding questions and a framework, students are more likely to connect the experience with their coursework, challenge their current beliefs, and deepen their own learning.

Though the article is written in the context of servicelearning, the application can be extended to experiential.

The authors think this approach to student reflections moves beyond superficial understanding and enhances critical thinking. The 3 general phases of the reflection are: 1. Description (of the activity or skill or rotation) 2. Analysis (finding the similarities and differences between the theories learned in the classroom and the actual practice of it in the field) 3. Articulation (placing the student's learning in context and verbalizing it through clear selfreflection) In order to answer the "articulation" phase, you can use 4 guiding questions (similar to "What? So What? Now What?"): 1. What did I learn?

2. How, specifically, did I learn it?

3. Why does this learning matter? Why is it significant?

4. In what ways will I use what I learned in my

future practice?

Vaccination Updates If your rotation site has issued or altered a vaccination mandate , please share the communication with OEE Assistant Director, Susi Carbonneau (scarbo@presby.edu).

We are closely monitoring each site's requirements to make sure our students are in compliance, even as they change on a day-to-day basis!

Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy has had a COVID vaccination requirement in place since August 2021. Some medical and religious exemptions have been reviewed and approved. All records are being kept on file with OEE.

COVID Testing on PC Campus COVID testing are available through DHEC (and Luxor labs) at the PC football stadium Mondays-Fridays, 9 am-4 pm, until March 31st (unless they do not have enough traffic for it to be useful).

This offering is available to PC students and employees and the general public. The test will be a PCR test with results in 24-48 hours. Please share with anyone else who may need to know.
