While trends in the Greater Boston Area are encouraging, this thesis is a direct criticism to how cyclists are treated in Metro Boston. Much of our â&#x20AC;&#x153;cycling infrastructureâ&#x20AC;? consists of shared roads in which the cyclist has limited to no protection from general motorists. Just recently, in August of 2015, a young woman was struck and killed by a truck in Back Bay area of Boston. As of the

Concept This thesis explores ways in which we, as designers, can integrate architecture, *

and designing a project that centers around the bicycle. The project will act as a framework to change the transportation dependence from the car to the bike. Through bike safe trails and F

Greater Metropolitan Boston, promoting the use of bikes. Each neighborhood and town will be able to tap into the framework according to the demands of their cycling community. In this way, the framework/network will keep growing and spreading, realizing the catalyst idea.

The station itself, a building prototype to be used within the network, will act as the central nucleus of the framework. As a major central hub of the network, it will promote biking through program, features, and architecture. The project 4 F '

Inspiration The mission of this project was to create a building, deeply rooted in the cycling community. In an effort to accomplish this mission, I researched and documented many programs and ideas to try to emulate in my project. % (

* cycling. There is onsite training staff, one-onone coaching, and a large community race room where users can digitally racer others around

In addition to the cycling programs, I wanted to create a space that can be used as a headquarters by a cycling entity. This would

would allow the company to use the building as a promotional tool and marketing strategy.

The Bike Tower is a parking structure that is seen around the world and yet is not often seen in the United States. Utilizing this structure would automatically make it an iconic building in
