PreciousMemories
Dawn(Daughter-in-Law)
From the first time I met Louise almost thirty years ago at her home in Wincobank as her precious son’s girlfriend she made me feel welcome. She welcomed me and my son into her family with open arms, a cup of tea in a China cup and saucer and we never looked back. I soon learned just how special it was to be part of this loving family. Louise helped me raise my children, counselled me at difficult times and inspired me through constant giving, commitment to her faith in God, her work within communities and unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. We spent hours in the kitchen together cooking and putting the world to rights. Louise taught me how important it is to be selfless and help others while having faith that through giving you will always feel comfort. Her dedication and support for others will continue be my inspiration and I will miss her deeply

My nannan treated me as her own, she came to England every summer to look after us all. She fed us, took us out for days out and helped me with my school work. She always brought me a special treat from Jamaica just for me, a sweet grapefruit from her garden that I had tried when we went to stay with her. I will always remember how much she loved us all.

My Nan will forever be one of my greatest inspirations and the teacher of many of my life lessons so far. She would always lead with kindness and compassion, making sure to put everyone else’s needs before her own. I could always go to her for advice and be met with openness and honesty. She was courageous and strived for things that others might not have dared to and she encouraged me to do the same. She’d always remind me that no aspiration was too great and reassure me that I’d get there eventually - even if it took a few tries! She was fun and feisty too. She loved setting up the perfect practical joke or having the opportunity to pull your leg. She would also unapologetically eye roll if someone said something that she disagreed with and she always managed to find new creative ways to tell me whenever my hair was looking particularly messy, still making sure that her message was delivered with love. I will forever miss the great lady that I proudly called my Nan but I take great comfort in being able to hold on to lots of happy memories.

Nannan had a heart of gold and had so much love for everyone. Every summer, when she came from Jamaica to stay with us for the 6 weeks holidays, she never used to tell us when she was coming which made it an even greater surprise when she arrived. Every Sunday when I’d ask her on the phone, I was always met with the same response “soon come”. She had many interesting ways of arriving for the summer, like pulling up in a taxi or knocking on our door and delivering fish and chips for our tea! After my Year 6 leavers Prom, I found Nannan hiding behind a massive teddy bear in the corner of my bedroom, just giggling away to herself. Her laugh was always so infectious and she had the greatest sense of humour.
Nannan lived life to the full with the amazing ability of finding time to always help others. Her love of life, laughter, listening ear, advice, guidance and amazing fluffy hugs will be greatly missed. Thank you for doing everything in the world for us. I will miss you loads Nannan.

My Nannan is my role model. She put people first. She was a blessing to anyone who got the chance to meet her. She opened her arms to anyone in need and made sure they were safe and cared for. She taught me how important it was to be strong and independent but to also be kind and care for the people around you. Nannan put so much love out into the world, I can only hope I come somewhat close.
