WELCOME - JON WATTS

Welcome to Rock Christian Centre! We are a vibrant active multi-cultural, innercity church.

I have been privileged to lead RCC for nearly 20 years, from our days as a small church plant meeting in rented offices, to a church of around 35 different nationalities, meeting in 3 buildings on 2 sites owned by RCC.

During the past 20 years we have launched Sheffield Street Pastors, Burngreave Foodbank, The Lighthouse Project for homeless and addicts, The WORD4WEAPONS gun and knife amnesty bin, Rock Welcome Church, Burngreave CAP Debt Centre and other groups and activities.

RCC is a non-denominational church that welcomes people from all backgrounds. I grew up in a strict Baptist family in Bedfordshire, rebelled as a teenager, was converted at Agricultural College. I completed a degree in theology at ‘London Bible College’ (now ‘London School of Theology’). Tricia and I have just celebrated 40 years of marriage and I have been in full time Pastoral ministry since 1985.

Currently I am a trustee of 3 charities and chair of ‘Together for Sheffield’, I am a founder member of SLIP (Sheffield Leaders in Prayer), work closely with ‘City Vision’, and am a member of the ‘Independent Advisory Group’ for South Yorkshire Police.

We are blessed with 3 adult children, 5 grandchildren and a large dog. My hobbies include DIY, cars and driving, gardening, travel etc.

Proverbs 18:22

He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favour from the Lord.

WELCOME - TRICIA WATTS

I moved to Sheffield as a teenager where I attended Christ Church Fulwood. It was on one of their youth house parties that I felt God call me to follow Him and my life changed.

I was a teacher for many years, first as a PE teacher before I slipped to Primary teaching. I eventually taught at a lovely small primary school in the countryside just north of Sheffield.

Having retired from teaching just before COVID, I now work for the Rock Christian Centre here in Sheffield. I work 2 days a week at Burngreave Foodbank and 2 days for the church. I have run/been on youth camps for the last 47 years!! and have a passion to see young people on fire for Jesus.

I also head up Sheffield Street Pastors which has been running since 2009. I love ‘Caring, Listening and Helping’ in the city centre. We have over 30 street pastors from more than 17 churches. I have many opportunities to represent street pastors and the church in city centre meetings and committees.

Jon and I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren, who are all great fun. I love spending time with them. They and I, all love Barney our dog, and enjoy taking him out on walks.

I love travelling to countries and seeing different cultures, exploring and also sitting on the beach!

My passion is having fun!!!! And seeing Jesus held high in our community.

Proverbs 31:10

Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.

INTRODUCING SANDIE

In her career Sandie was recognised as an accomplished leader who was President of The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, and spokesperson for Adult Social Care Services at the highest levels of local and national government. She received a CBE for leadership in Social Care in 2014.

Sandie’s faith is central to everything she has done and all she is. She recognises the call of God on her life and is currently trustee of 2 faith based voluntary organisations. These are Langley House Trust, a National Christian Housing and Care organisation supporting ex-offenders to live crime free lives; and Together for Sheffield which draws together Christian leaders in Sheffield in evangelism, service and prayer.

Sandie is passionate about empowering the disenfranchised through Social Action and Mission. She is called to support church unity initiatives and empowerment of women leaders.

She is married with 2 adult step children and share their home with a Ukrainian refugee guest and her dog.

INTRODUCING CLARISSA

Workshop 1: Main Hall

Clarissa started out training as a psychiatric nurse. Later on she moved to Berlin where she worked as a community social worker. This involved teaching English, facilitating women ’ s therapy groups and supporting Latin American refugees. After spending time in various parts of Europe, she returned to the UK to further her social work studies. This was followed by training as a person-centred counsellor. Later obeying the call of God to go into full-time ministry, she completed her theological studies and worked as an Anglican priest in the Church of England. Her passion is to assist people in recognising who they are in Christ, and how very much they are loved and cherished by God. Over the years she has taught and led conferences and retreats in this country as well as other parts of the world.

Clarissa is a member of Royal United in Bath Hospital Chaplaincy team. She's married to Lloyd, they have 5 children; Simon, Ruby, Jake, Sam & Ben, two dogs, Pepper and Beresford and Missy the cat.

Her heart is for change, affirmation and growth.

INTRODUCING LYN

Lyn joined Christians Against Poverty as the UK Director of Church Engagement and Network in September 2022, responsible for the Church Network, leading all CAP’s frontline work across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. She also leads the Church Partnership teams, growing new relationships with the UK Church, as well as developing products and services to equip and inspire thriving churches in our mission to see lives transformed, and see an end to UK poverty. Lyn is an enthusiastic evangelist and delights in her responsibility for the Mission, Evangelism and Discipleship team. Her passion is to inspire a movement of change makers, determined to eradicate poverty across the UK, whilst sharing the Good News of Christ.

Lyn previously worked for the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity as Director of Church Relations, equipping and inspiring Anglican dioceses and churches to develop whole-life disciple-making cultures. She is a gifted speaker with a wealth of experience, speaking at large conferences and churches across the UK. Lyn is an ordained Church of England Priest who absolutely loves the UK Church, and has previously served as the Director of Mission in the Diocese of Chester. Before that, Lyn spent 22 years directing strategic transformation in global banking across a wide range of transformation programmes. Her biggest prayer is to see an end to UK poverty; God really showed her the startling reality of its devastation whilst she was leading debt management in banking.

Lyn is a Board Member of Langley House Trust and chairs the Mission Committee. She is also a Board Advisor to Christian Aid. Lyn loves most to spend time with her husband Phil and 15 year-old son Luke, and they all thrive on outdoor adventure sports. Lyn is particularly fond of spin and long-distance running.

Her open and practical illustration of personal experiences, along with her direct communication style, enables her to show people how to apply biblical principles and values to their own lives. She is a fervent intercessor, who longs to see the Church develop into the complete likeness of Christ.

Nkechi’s desire is to carefully dissect and interpret God’s word, in order to discern the will of God for the Church in a time when our world is full of uncertainty. Making the eternal truths of God’s word applicable to a world that is continually changing is her top priority.

INTRODUCING JOANNE

Workshop 4: Downstairs - Youth Group - Room 2

God has given me a heart for women to know that they are deeply loved by Father God and that He delights in them. This has developed over 3 decades. In this time He has led me, opened my eyes, taught me to hear His voice, walked with me and shaped me in the desert periods. He has placed me in environments, some work-based. others church-based, to see first-hand the disfunction that deep trauma and brokenness can bring. I have watched women robbed of life and merely exist, and have also seen where God's love sets women free to start the journey of walking into their destiny.

I have worked as a Community Development Worker, Health Service Commissioner, Health and Social Care Manager, Key worker with victims of human trafficking and also in a Christian Recovery Programme. In church, I have been part of children and youth work, prayer ministry and with my husband have led home groups. To my experience, I have added academic study having a MSc in Public Health, PGCE in Health and Social Care and attended Deeper Bible School at the Well Church in Sheffield.

My experience and study have led me in 2022 to write and deliver the Delight Course –‘For women to know that they are deeply loved by Father God – they are His Delight'. I am also the founder of ‘Delight ministry’.

Proverbs 31:30

Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised

INTRODUCING CYNTHIA

In 2019, just before lockdown, I retired from my role as a Manager, which I had performed for 23 years after gain Working with children who were disadvantaged and had s disabilities was my passion. Because of this I completed my BSc in Psychology (Hons), whilst working full-time and raising 3 children. My evening job at Rotherham Rugby Club to encourage and inspire children who lacked self-esteem and confidence, was where I acquired my design skills, which I now use to design a variety of booklets, orders of service and slideshows for funerals and a variety of occasions.

I have lived in Sheffield all my life and have attended the Church of God of Prophecy, Duke Street from my childhood. I currently have the role of Church Administrator and Treasurer and form part of the Worship, Praise and Musician Team playing my saxophone.

I was impressed to take up the saxophone after seeing Mark Bunney, from the Seventh Day Adventist Church, play at a Easter concert we had. However, I personally like to play the tune of a song or the alto, rather than the squiggly bits like Mark performs. I have been playing on and off for around 10 years, usually playing with the musicians at church or independently at events when requested. My resolution this year is to practice more as I bought a 10 session course to learn how to play, and I’ve only got to session 4. I just pick the saxophone up and seem to be able to play it, but I still have a lot to learn as there are some keys on the instrument that I have never touched.

I love playing this instrument and want God to be glorified when I play.

Proverbs 31:26

She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
