SUMMER CAMP

VISUAL ARTS CAMP

NATURE’S ART AND MATH

Age 5-10 with Dr. Peter Koehler, artist, Ph.D. in Mathematics, researched and taught at Stanford University, and teaches at the Nueva School. This is for creative kids who love the Arts, love to paint and want to learn new imaginative ways to express themselves. We’ll use lots of vibrant paint to create our own interpretation of Monet’s Garden, Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Nature’s Coral Reefs. There will be a large variety of other art materials too: Enjoy pottery clay, selection of wooden pieces to make 3-D sculptures, a variety of colorful paper for collages, and we apply oil pastels in new ways to make designs and scenes of your own imagination . Maybe you are inspired by animals, flowers, by stars and planets, or the Northern Lights. Students should bring a peanut-free snack each day and a smock or apron to cover clothes. Lab fee of $25 payable to instructor at 1st class.

Age 7-10 with Dr. Peter Koehler. Peter has been teaching art for many years and has a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. He teaches Math enrichment at The Nueva School where he has encouraged student’s creativity for more than 20 years . Fibonacci Numbers in Nature is some of the most visually magical math you can discover. We”ll explore flowers, pine cones, sand dollars, the nautilus and other shells, and galaxies for their fascinating math. With a great variety of math and art materials: oil pastels, paints, clay, paper folding, colored tiles and cubes, to build and be creative in math. Be inventive with 2-D and 3-D visual patterns, blending Numbers and Shapes. Peter has inspired and brought out a love for math and art in many children by sharing its beauty, its magic and mystery. Please bring a peanut -free snack each day and a smock or apron for paint and clay. Lab fee of $25 payable to instructor on 1st day.

Age 5-13 with Dragonfly Designs www.jewelrybydfly.com Enter into a creative world full of endless possibility with Dragonfly Designs! Divergent thinking, or the ability to look at multiple ways to solve problems, is the most valuable life skill we can offer our children and serves as the basis for this camp. Students will be led on an adventurous exploration of art mediums such as metal, clay, wax, wood, paper and leather to create innovative projects from enameling, candle making, lip balms, painting, tie dye, jewelry design, etching, patina, paper making and so much more! Healthy snacks will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes appropriate for movement games and “making a mess.” Lab Fee: $50 for supplies ($40 the week of 7/5).

Age 9-12 with Belinda Chlouber, local artist and environmental advocate Going Green! Art-Eco Camp, come join the fun and learn about all the fantastic ways you can go green using art! We will explore upcycling, Earth Art and also learn about how our everyday choices impact the natural world and what you can do about it. We’ll start by making a book to document our projects and ideas, this is going to be a creative exciting class you won’t want to miss! Please dress to make “art”, have fun and learn! Lab fee of $15 payable on the 1st day of camp. $199 / $179 Resident Discount

STORY SNAPS: DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY & COLLAGE

Age 8-13 NEW with Dragonfly Designs www.jewelrybydfly.com A picture can say a thousand words! Learn to tell a unique kind of story through pictures in this digital photography and collage camp. Over the course of the day, students will learn the basics of camera work (semi-professional camera, iPad, or smartphone can be used) to learn how to take photos that tell a story. After an introduction to Photoshop, campers will be provided with tools to form a collage that brings their photos to life!Lab fee of $60 payable on the 1st day of camp. Healthy snacks will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes appropriate for movement games and “making a mess.”
